Hector, the real hero. That is not doubted..but your forgetting that there are two sides to every story. A tyrant is only so to the people opposing him. In that time, a king could wipe out a city state or take it over. If he took it over, for the common people? Life didnt change. Troy opposed when they could have instead said what ever sure we'll fight with you. Their king was kind to his people, but just as Arrogant as Agamemnon for ignoring his sons words. Homer describes his characters with great sagacity, all of them (Trojans and Greeks) have good and bad moments, pros and cons etc. This manichaeism that some movies - and your opinion of course - are based upon is destructive for a literary work and Homer managed to avoid it.

Hector killed Patroclus and died in hands of Achilles. And Apolo killed Achilles using Paris, because Achilles desrespected your temple.

Considering Achilles usually has done with any other enemies within the blink of an eye to a few seconds, Hector did not do all that bad really; lasting several minutes, and coming close on a couple of occasions. Lets put it this way, nobody else ever put a scratch on Achilles' armour. I think it is fair to say, Hector is the best FULLY human mortal. Achilles, being a Demi-God, is kind of in a league of his own, which is unfair I suppose.

Achilles wasn't being cocky and reckless, he was pissed off that Hector killed Patroclus, which why he wanted to fight Hector in the first place.
