At least it wasn't the atrocity that was the movie adaptation from 1984. The Lynch series doesn't agree with me much either - but then again, I think it's impossible to make a decent cinimatic Dune. Dune is quite possible the most nuanced, complex, multi-layered Sci-fi epic ever to be written. There's so much internal dialogue and intertwined environmental/historical/social messages in the written Dunes - I'd much rather they leave it alone. Cinema is a format that just won't do it justice.
I think it could be done to the books design at least somewhat, but then it wouldn't be popular. People don't like going to the movies to learn anything more philosophical than what you find in a disney movie.
Yea people want something stupid so they won't be intimidated by the thought provoking story line. Yea people are semi-retarded hence why Obama is the president.
I agree, David Lynch's movie was a turd and the only thing that can do Dune justice on film is to have it as 3 or 4 movies on the first book, Lord of the Rings was considered unfilmable but Jackson did justice since he's a fan of the book. They need someone talented like Alfonso Cauron for the new movie on the big screen.
david lynch butchered dune. His entire atmostphere is wrong. The dune universe is supposed to feel like the clash between the middle east and the west, not some bullshit european desert where the Fremen don't even wear masks and all the costumes look straight out of hot topic. The story-line was less correct, in some respects, but the characters, atmosphere and message were a million times closer to the ones in the books. David lynch sucks.
yeah... so much for 'blue within blue eyes'

I agree, the new Dune movie coming soon should be good. Besides Avatar, Star Wars and Matrix are already the same fucking thing as Dune.
