Discharge and the UKHC scene played a good part in influencing early Metallica. Just look at the photos on the back sleeve of Ride the Lightning, Kirk is wearing a Discharge shirt....so you do have some punk influences in here. Kirk was also really close friends with Johnny Ramone.
