They had to practice this a lot, the Swedes... but it payed off. But if Hagi had gotten himself into such a position, he wouldn't have passed it - he'd have scored directly.

@Janusmannen I am not trying to downplay the actual free-kick, which was new and - as the Romanians would maybe say - unconventional. But on paper or on grass, they had to plan it very very carefully.

But, as this clip tells, it did pay off a lot. Romania had two gold shots in the 89th and 101st minute by Raducioiu but Kennet Andersson managed to get over Florin Prunea and score the equalizer, and the rest - as we say - is history.

Om man jämför med dåtidens mått så får man väl säga att Sveriges VM-lag 94 var mycket bättre än nu om man jämför man spelare för spelare dvs. Sverige hade Thern och Schwartz på mittfältet som kan anses bättre än Källström och Svensson, Brolin top 5 absolut bästa spelaren i världen just då, Ravelli också när det gäller målvakter. Hur kan du säga att det verkar som att Elm levererar i landslaget? De senaste kvalmatcherna har han varit ohotat sämst i det svenska laget. Att han snor tid från etablerade Premier League stjärnor som Sebastian Larsson är oförståeligt. Där har vi en kille med känsla som klarar av att slå hörnor i alla fall.

I would say that Tomas Brolin at this time was one of the top 3-5 best players in the world. He took place in the World Cup 94 all-star team with players as Hagi, Romarío, Stoichkov and Maldini! He then got an awful injurey and never really got back..and for that I feel sorry for him!

neaiancu- a pity Romania's goalie didn't have a terrible game in the final qualifier match with Wales. Instead, Wales' usually superb goalie made a gaffe when it mattered most, as did our usually reliable penalty taker. Wales is only now starting to recover from the misery of one close miss too many. Romania with Hagi was a dangerous team- brilliant sometimes but not very consistent.
