  • I was implanted Oct 2011 with the Nucleus 5, and they now have the rechargeable batteries in two sizes.

  • I'm a bilateral Freedom user who is soon going to make the switch to Nucleus 5. This review was very helpful, thank you.

  • I'm deaf (since birth) in my right ear and I have about 35-40% hearing in my left ear and wear a hearing aid in it. my parents and I have recently started looking into getting a cochlear implant for me in my right ear, and our main worry was whether or not the sound that go into my good ear would conflict with the sounds/signals that my right ear would receive... so seeing that you wear a hearing aid in addition to an implant is reassuring. :)

  • I am so excited my dad is getting his implant done on the 17th of next month.....he chose nucleus 5 & they sent us some info on a recall but he can get the old one. I CAN'T WAIT!!! Thank you for sharing!!

  • may i ask... how does it feel using a cochlear implant? is it as good as a hearing aid? are u able to understand what people say or its still difficult? please let me know...

  • i also have 1 ear with an implant and 1 ear with a hearing aid. i have upgraded to nucleus 5 and got a new hearing aid with blue tooth and FM system. Unfortunately the CI will interfere with the icom of the hearing aid and will dysfunction the bluetooth/FM system- meaning they are not compatible. My audiologist did a small research to see if there are other hearing aids with bluetooth/FM that could be compatible with the CI and didn't find any. Any suggestions?

  • It has been over a month since I have had a processor that will allow me to do the work that I have dreamed of doing. Consider if you ever wanted to travel, or maybe your child might want to be a foreign exchange student ,, think of all the dreams and possibilities that could suddenly be taken away from you. I am at a point now where I am about to lose everything I have worked so hard to achieve. Don’t let this happen to your child or loved one.

  • What is your level of hearing loss in the ear with the implant?

  • F*** that. I am not accept with that. You just want make money for this play hearing aid? Bullshit. I am former 3th surgery for CI. And it is not perfect. And why do they not let me play football in HS and doc not let me play on football with it? Bullshit. Good thing I play wrestling team and I am mixed martial art. Which I am happy for be deaf. I not care about hearing, who care about hearing stuff? It is not perfect.

  • thanks for the review! looks much smaller, i like it.

  • this video is amazing and is a bit like me because i have been wearing hearing aids all my life (i am 24 years of age) and on 27th april 2011, I had the cochlear implant operation (left side) and my activation date is on the 26th may 2011 and i am real excited!

  • My son got his Nucleus 5 today and he loves it. Like you say in the video, it's much slimmer and I agree the LCD screen was handy on the old Freedom. I think the real reason he loves it is because he has the football cover!

Oh and he has the rechargeable battery packs as well as the battery pack.

  • @amjid300 The football cover definitely has its appeal :) I hope he's doing well! I know cochlear has some great support

  • My sons getting his Nucleus 5 in 3 weeks. Like that it's slimmer but is was really useful having the LCD screen. Hope the red flashing LED is still there.

  • i just had my operation for my cochlear implant and a waiting period of 14 days to have my switch-on on 2nd and 3rd december 2010, i already got the rechargable batteries type and it recharges fully in 4 hours and last properly a week to recharge between period think i better go and have some rest from my op cheers

  • I don't like that transmitter thingy that sits on the side of the head. Until they find a way to get around that I don't want a cochlear implant.

  • i have bilateral cochlear implants. i found this very helpful because my main issue was to find out what it looks like because on the cochlear website it doesnt have good photos of it. also it would be nice if you could tell me a little more about the remote.

  • The rechargeable battery is now an option.

  • @kim777pap Is it really an option now!? I am filling out the paper work as I type this, I mam upgrading from the freedom to the nucleus 5.. I saw that in the information packet that it says the rechargeable batteries are quote " currently not available in the United States, pending FDA approval" I would LOVE to have the compact rechargeable battery option for size purposes.. How did you hear or know it is now available?? thanks!

  • hey, can I upload your video with translated subtitles? thank you ;)

  • what...?! i got freedom this year..i do NOT know there is new hearing aid...bummer

  • Thank you for the valuable comparison!

I think the rechargeables are already approved. non?

  • Australia has the rechargeable battery option :)

I'm due for an upgrade from the Freedom, how are the features on it? Like the auto t-switch function?

And the documentation says something about hooking up to wireless devices, what do you know about that?

Does it sound any different when it is first 'switched on' to the freedom?

    Cheers :)

  • Thank you great video~ keep up the great work

  • Very nice, how much cost for N5?

  • Please, does anyone know the average cost ($) to place the device? Tanks !

  • Thank You.

  • is it same size of replaceable battery from freedom processor?

  • The rechargeable battery option in the N5 Processor is not the same size as the one in the Freedom processor. It is smaller

  • @HearingAidDocs Is the disposable battery the same for the nuc 5 as the Freedom?

  • I live in Canada and have ordered the N5. I can confirm that the rechargeable battery option is available in Canada, and comes standard with the full kit.

  • I was implanted on 11/11/09, my activation day is 12/30/09. I am an active outdoors type guy, how does the N5 processor stay on the ear, do you feel you need the extra piece to help it stay on? my wife has the freedom processor and she wears the extra piece to keep it from falling off. any idea if I will have to go to a larger helmet in oder to ride my motorcycles, ATV's, mountain bikes, etc.?

  • I ride as well, and to keep it from falling off, I wear an underarmor cap to secure it.

  • @HearingAidDocs What is an Underarmor cap? I have been running a chain from the cable to a necklace in case it falls off. I think it looks dorkey. I would love some new ideas

  • @atavuss lol mountain bikes a wild cochlear implant recipiant. i use mine for learning purposes.

  • Very interesting, N5 is very slim than the freedom :) I would like to get one couple of years later. Thanks for sharing

  • Great comparison of devices. Thank you so much for doing this. I haven't paid too much attention yet to the new Nucleus 5 for my daughter and this has been a nice quick overview.

  • I was just implanted with the nucleus 5 last week and my switch-on is in 2 weeks time! I'm so excited. BTW the rechargeable battery option is available in Singapore.

  • How do you like the rechargeable batteries? How long do they last?

  • They last 30 hours

  • We're in the process of captioning... should be up shortly. The app that we use was down for a while and we noticed it was back up today. Coming soon!

  • Why isn't your video captioned?

  • Good question.

  • It's finally CC enabled!
