A lot of bookstores where I lived are closed down, but there's Walmart, K-mart, and some other place I think. It definitely sucks because my mom hates reading off computers and I do too because it hurts our eyes after a while.
All you have shown is a poor understanding of economics. Sure, on the surface it might appear as though jobs are lost. However, there are just as many jobs that are gained. More Amazon warehouses open up, needing more workers for customer service/delivery/etc. More people need to be hired to manufacture the parts that make up the Kindle. More tech-support. More engineers. More accountants, etc. More people becoming authors due to the ease of becoming an author with eReaders, etc
@cmadison93 warehouses? in america? not likely. they'll probably be overseas. But you're right, I'm not good at debating economics. I just made the comment in jest.
I have a lovely English language edition of the Decameron in paperback. I bought it in Florence. I have to lighten my load for an upcoming move. I bought a Kindle version for $0.00 cents and will probably donate the physical book to a charity. I don't live in a large center with stores that buy used books.
Kindles are really starting to pop up now. I see the new one, K3 and the kobo as well. I don't bring mine to school because i'm not gonna be the one to let it get stolen. Anyway, more and more people are buying ereaders and ebooks because in school i could get a book for class in a second, while i'd have to drive to your store to get a book,
But what did she spend on all those books he didn't buy.
You can download books for free from Project Gutenberg. You can't sell them but then you don't spen any money on them. Of course I wouldn't buy a Kindle. I have an Archos PMA400. It's a Linux computer and MP3 player and e-book reader and ... Hey, it's a Linux computer, what do you expect.
i love my books. but this is pretty fail video. i mean, its like music: if you wanted to hear a performance back you used to have to buy it on wax and have a record player, now you can just have files on a computer or you portable device, it doesnt mean the music isn't still there, it just means its in a different media. i collect books and record, but im not gonna deny its the 21st century now and most people will have albums on their ipods instead of a huge record collection.
I suppose I should keeping buying CD's for the awesome liner notes and the resale value. lol. C'mon the kindle isn't going to replace vibrant colorful graphic novels. This is a replacement for your newspapers and dog eared paperbacks that you would tote around. Your daily reading pretty much. I rolled my eyes at the guy talking about "checking myspace" while you read a book. If you tried to sell the kindle as some sort of tablet PC for web browsing you'd totally fail.
That's why I read ebooks now. I don't have to drag boxes to used book stores. And, this video makes an interesting point. You unload two or three books and have to drag the rest home. Not only that, but most of the shops I have been to offered instore credit, not cash.

I hate Kindle. I bet it is the reason why Borders is closing down! My only comic resource! And I love to hold physical book than a artificial book.

@cmadison93 But all the jobs will be shipped off overseas to China. Anyway, still like the convenience of the Kindle.

@DeathlyDavid
The jobs regarding paper books or ebooks are going to be shipped overseas regardless of whether there is a Kindle or not.

Yeah. I've been to Green Apple Books. Great store, but $80 for a short stack of books? Not a chance.

so.....a month in Europe, and my choice is 5 travel guides, and 4 or 5 novels.....that's 10 books to card around versus a Kindle?
I'll keep my Kindle, thank you very much.
