  • Yo... that's Fred "Rerun" Berry (from What's Happenin") at 1:58 not Bookman (from Goodtimes) Berry was a big dude but that cat was a damn good dancer!!

  • cableguyxx9898xx, really? Rerun and Bookman must look like twins!

  • @cfazekas0441 A dance show hosted by Don Cornelius from 1971-2006 and got its start in Chicago before moving to Los Angeles! The black(or African-American)version of the ABC-TV dance hit "American Bandstand" hosted by Dick Clark! It was the hippiest trip in America! A Pretty good run, too! This song(By MFSB)was the theme for the show called "TSOP(The Sound Of Philadelphia)

  • @candyg8301 On the show, when he hung his "Drawers" out to dry on the clothesline,JJ used to remake that they looked like sails, fom the sailboats on Lake Michigan!! Funny show,Jimmie Walker used to make me laugh so hard!!

  • HAPPY 40TH ANNIVERSARY, SOUL TRAIN!!! 1971-2011

  • I don't think that was Bookman. It Fred Berry a.k.a Rerun

  • does sound good.

  • That's my Mom at 0:54!

  • @KimberlySharice :ya moms had it goin ON!

  • @KimberlySharice Wow, she really stood out. You must be proud.

  • The days when people still had "moves"! I loved this part of Soull Train and this song (thanks for posting!) will always take me back to that time!

  • I remember growing up and everybody trying to finish cleaning up before Soul Train came on. Everybody watched. Nothing like that now. Man those were some great times and we didn't even know it!

  • WOW! "Mr. Bookman" danced on Soul Train BEFORE becoming obese!

  • Were there any fat people back in the 70's???

  • Daiseehead, yes!

  • Good Channel, Congratulations !! & Thans.

Do You have a Quadraphonic System of 70's?

  • feel like im in a first class jet anyone else feel that way

  • If this was copied from an album recorded in a matrix-type quad format, you can decode some of the rear audio using a Dolby Surround system. (not Dolby Digital) set on the standard matrix surround or Dolby pro-logic. Quad and Dolby Surround are not 100 percent compatable but work in a similar way. (quad had 2 rear channels with seperate speakers but surround used 1 rear channel with 2 speakers Assuming that nothing was changed or remixed in this recording it should sound pretty good.

  • I'll always love this!

  • right on for Bookman aka Buffalo Butt!

  • latinguy67, he became obese because he stopped dancing!

  • wow i had the quad lp with the olive green philladelphia International Label.

To Bad There Are No Quad Systems Avilable To Play It Back.

Sound Better Then The Stereo Recording. Thanks

  • Thanks for this great song and video sync of Soul Train. I watched this and American Bandstand every Saturday when I was a youth in the 70's. I even had a well groomed afro when I graduated from high school in '79!

  • Es una bella cancion orquestada de la decada de 1970.Gracias por el recuardo.

  • I thought the lyrics were:

"What's going on? It's time to get down."

  • Yeah, soul brothers looks so much better then than today's condescending/dress down brothers of today that listen to condescending/disgusting/foul rap chatter that don't deserve to be called music; most brothers and latinos listen to rap today and glorify being in a gang; talking so stupid and black brothers called each other "Niggas" and no wonder why

so many have STD's and criminal records.

  • OMG The guy on the right at the 1:10 mark -- super cool look with his pants above his belly button and the fro! Get down!

  • I think my hip just went out trying to imitate the dance moves here.

  • Also, on a second listening, the sax in left channel stands out more, as does the warmth and presence of the bass.

  • Great song from 1974!....I also noticed the horn arrangement at the end of song here is a little more pronouced than what is normally heard....I have sensitive ears...lol! Always loved watching 'American Bandstand' and' 'Soul Train' on Saturday afternoons back in the day :)

  • This is one I'd really, really love to hear in a room equipped with quadraphonic gear and monitors. Even in 2-channel, it sounds dramatically different. Cheers!

  • another song that brings me right back to 10-11 years old and listening to this on

    my green panasonic ball radio!

  • Great. Very entertaining. I like it. Cool sound. Cheers André ☺

  • EVERYTHING IS FIRST CLASS!

  • God does this bring me back!
