  • @rdfelty Awesome. Hope to see them soon. Keep flying, and I so hope to head to Norwood when I get my PPL. Decent length trip from Nova Scotia, Canada. :)

  • @TheMeslava Wow, that would be quite a nice trip! Let me know when you're coming.

  • @rdfelty Thanks for the reply back :) I guess that's pretty much true, there is not much of a time difference between abeam and base. Generally I like to put in 10 degrees abeam as I slow down, and then 20 on base, and I wait until I'm established on final for what's left (the 172 I fly has 40 degrees of flaps). Great videos though... any more coming soon?

  • @TheMeslava Yes, I should have a quick pattern video later this week, then a couple more I shot this weekend in a week or so. The quick one has no ATC or Coms because I forgot to plug the cable in, so it'll seem a little different than my others. But after that I have some interesting stuff in the works. Thanks for watching.

  • I use your videos as a guide Rick and really enjoy them in my flight training. I'm just curious on something. I see you put a first notch in at abeam and I started doing that and my instructor keeps telling me I should be putting my first and second notch in as I turn base, obviously 45 degrees from the runway. Is it just on your own regards that you do this as to make it less work on base or what? Just curious on this :) Love the videos, keep them coming.

  • @TheMeslava I was taught to do it that way. One reason to maybe not do it, is to keep more speed options open should you decide not to land. Then you don't have to pull the flaps out. But the time difference between abeam and base is not really that great. I was taught to begin my descent at the abeam point. It's all a downward path from there. Your CFI may be teaching it differently. When I add flaps I also pitch down, which without the flaps would add speed.

  • Thanks for a great movies with VFR communication. I really appreciate your time and fact you shared with us. I am a rookie pilot and every time I fly the flight following communication brings something new . every time :)

    Thanks

  • @gztsarmata Thanks for the nice comments and for watching. Just watched your Skycatcher video. Very interesting! You still flying that plane?

  • @rdfelty No, I fly Aero AT-4, also known as Gobosh. The C162 was a demo I took twice to the air. Nice airplane but ... and a lot of "buts" :)

AT-4 is much better sport plane while Skycatcher is a pickup-truck :); Stop by at 7B2 and try AT-4 - it will be a lot of fun.

  • how are you allowed to upload longer than 15 minutes? when i tried it said there is a 15 min maximum and i wasnt able to upload it

  • @youngkiszk35 About a year ago after uploading a ton of videos, and I assume getting a lot of views, YouTube put a message on my upload page that said I was allowed to go longer than 15. I didn't do anything myself, that note just appeared one day. Not sure if there is an explanation on the site somewhere saying what it takes to make that happen.

  • @youngkiszk35 Did you ever get a real explanation for their policy on this?

  • Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing!

  • @kylepetten Thanks for watching! More to come.

  • Beautiful video all the way. I really appreciate the post-flight editing where you added notations of ground landmarks. Good job!

  • @tobyz1 Thanks for the nice comments. I try to add as much information as I can. I think on a clearer day for this flight I could have added some more location information, but the haze was a bit much on this day. Thanks again.

  • @edro20 Not sure why that may have happened. Certainly not something I did. Did you subscribe again? Thanks for letting me know.

  • What type of mount do you use for the camera in the back?

    Thanks!

  • Awesome video as usual. I grew up in Beverly, at the Folly Hill apartments which is right across route 128 from the airport.. went there so many times growing up.

  • Enjoy watching your videos. Your pop up boxes give good info for the viewer - especially those not familiar, as I am, with the area. I wouldn't mind seeing an instrument panel close up from time to time, if you have ability for another view. Thanks again!

  • @binns6929 I tried recording the instruments once and frankly it's hard to do. There is sometimes a lot of glare and most importantly, it is impossible to mount the camera in a steady spot with a clear view of the screen, but not also in my way. I'll keep it in mind. Maybe there is a way to do it that I haven't found. Thanks for watching and writing!

  • Is the Cirrus yours ?

  • @TeenFlyer95 Nope. It's a rental! :(

  • @rdfelty What does a cirrus like this rent for per hour up in your part of the country?

  • @Zdogs22 225

  • What software do you use to sync the audio and video? can you go through that in another video, like how you start the recording and put together on the computer... That would help me greatly. I would love to send a video to my family of what I'm doing at WMU

  • @chittychad18 I might do that, although basically it's a description that would only apply to certain cameras, computers and software. I use flash memory cameras, connect them to a Mac Book Pro via USB. I open the editing software I use, Final Cut Pro and go to the Log and Transfer menu. Then for a couple of hours, the video is transfered to the computer external hard drive. Once I get that done with three cameras, I then begin to edit in standard timeline editor fashion.

  • Thank you Rick, I did enjoy this one specially hearing the interactions between you and the ATC and other aircraft.

  • @playmakerpr Thanks. I think it's interesting too, even on flights I've made myself. It helps me work on my radio anticipation skills. There is another recent video of mine I think with a complete flight to Martha's Vineyard that has some flight-following audio on it. You might want to check that one out too. Thanks for watching and writing.

  • Thank you, Rick, another good one. The longer form must take a while to edit but from the audience point of view its lots of fun.

  • @toffer99 YEs, the longer videos take longer to assemble and "clean-up" but I enjoy it and I think it's worth it. I'm really glad to get some feedback that from the audience point of view it's fun to watch. More to come!

  • Excuse my somewhat personal question sir, but do you make these flights exclusively for recreational purposes, or is it part of your job?

  • @cipmars No problem. Good question. I'm a private pilot and so these flights are for recreation and personal training only. Not part of my job, Thanks for watching.

  • Nice one.

  • Great video. I wish you'd just leave until you perform an engine shutdown and exit the plane :) (same for startup, I'd love to see a complete cold start :)

  • @mmarconcini That's a good idea.

  • @mmarconcini I'll try to capture the cold start and leave everything to shutdown. The cold start part is usually not recorded because between the start and take-off there is a long time and I like to save hard drive space. But it's a good point and I'll try to do that. Thanks for writing.

  • hi Rick, now im back from florida. wow great video..... rick.

    see you ernst

  • As usual, GREAT VIDEO RICK!!! Hope to meet up again soon!

  • Awesome video Rick! It was so nice meeting you! As we said, this summer we will meet up again with Andrew!! :)

  • Thanks for the long video! Well done Rick!
