I am just laughing at comments: Paul Potts is better singer than Pavarotti etc.! His technics ís bad and he has not right voice for opera.I like him but I am not from GB and am not too crazy say that he is the best living tenor (=
By the way it´s true that he was trained - without question.
If you already like "THE 4 TENORS" ( lol ) check now THE 30 TENORS in my playlist SUPER TENOR ARIAS ( including CLAUDIO SOTELO performing ARIA DEL CIRUJANO as a world première for YOU TUBE ) !
,everyone whos criticizes him are totally right...i agree with this peoples, they really know what they talking about...they have the trainning, the technical, the voice ...wait a minute...what are you people doing here???you guys must recording something...yeahhh becouse if he can do you can do to....right???PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE
Paul Potts may not be on the same technical level as the others, but what truly matters at the end of the day is people were touched and enjoyed it. Music is about expressing yourself to others, and criticizing him for going up on stage and singing his heart out shows how nasty and jealous some people can be. Let Paul
enjoy himself, he isn't harming you in any way. Personally, I know that Paul isn't a pro,
but I still feel an emotional energy when he's on stage.
Well, for someone who has had no professional training whatsoever, he sure sounded pretty damn good to me. I do not particularly like opera, but I can appreciate it none the less. But when someone can sing like Paul Potts did and has never had any kind of professional training and give me goose bumps every time I watch it (about 100 times now!) I think there's something to be said for the guy!
Also, his singing isn't that way because he's waiting to reach his peak. Male vocalists normally get their full, mature voice between the ages of 25 and 29. Pott's is already far past that stage. Additionally, his performance is pitchy, his high notes strained, and his posture lacks any command of the stage. The man has an incredible story, just not an incredible voice. Sorry....
uhm...the male baritone reaches a nice maturity around 25 to 29 a tenor may not mature anywhere between 34 to 40...seriously you guys have no freakin idea. Thats why people get on here and hammer potts because people who have no idea about what it takes to sing opera get on here and praise 3rd rate singing..Potts could be a good singer with about 10 more years of the Italian vercai method...btw way not calling u an idiot but you guys really need to study before writing info
I'm a 21 year-old, lyric tenor, preparing my second principal opera role, and one year away from completing my Bachelor's in Vocal Performance, so I know tenor voices.. Also, any good vocal pedagogue will tell you that the voice continually matures as the singer get's older, but most tenors typically have the bulk of their adult voice by 26-28 years of age. Oh yeah, and it's Vaccai not Vercai. The vocal exercise methods being named after Nicola Vaccai, who created them.
btw as for being 29 and knowing that my voice is completely different from the age of 26. In fact every year my voice has changed dramatically from age 28 to 29. If my voice at 26 was like it is now...that would be impressive...
Potts does not have an "angelic" voice. However, what he does have is an unsupported, tone-lacking sound. To even begin to compare him to Pavarotti, one of the most God-gifted and technically polished singers in history is a fool's errand. Pott's rendition is a bad karaoke performance by comparison. End of story....
oh my god... everywhere i was seeing comments about this pott 'he is the best' 'look at his version' 'pott compared to pavarotti', etc. And this is pott? the gap between the last professional opera singer and him is very very very very very wider than the gap between the last opera singer and pavarotti. It is really a torture to hear him, not because he sings terribly, but he is just too far from a 'true' opera singer.

Good grief. To argue that a person must demonstrate their ability at a particular skill before they can critique someone else is completely ridiculous. You don't need to be a world-class opera singer to appreciate whether someone's good or not. PP is reasonable but can't hold a candle to Pavarotti/Carreras/Domingo. He wants to be a professional opera singer so should be judged against the best.
Potts has a more "angelic" type of voice, it doesnt "gut" down like the others, having said that, he has had nowhere the experience of the others and is probaly 10 years away from peaking. Also, if you have a listen to the videos, it is quiet clear that there is far more base in the 3 tenors recording (compare the music and back up singers), so although it may be fair to say that the three tenors have better operatic voices, it is also fair to say that it is a lop sided comparision.

Firstly I agree that the "if you can do better, please let's see & hear your version" arguement is utterly ridiculous. Secondly by holding concerts and selling CDs Potts has put himself in the profesional arena, an arena which this video clearly shows he doesn't belong in.
oh sure, you think it's unfair to tell you that you should show better talents if you just criticize someone else's efforts. well guess what? life's not fair, buddy, and that's great news for those of us who are talented, and who laugh at all you fools who have nothing better to do than criticize those who have the guts to put their balls on the line and show the world what they do as well as they can.
laughzilla, you say that life isn't fair because people like you tell someone who criticizes a clearly comercialised crap devised to be listened to and loved by the masses that have no modicum of idea of what opera is, you call yourself talented yet I don't know you, and the fact that you did call yourself talented, yet you clearly stand behind Paul Potts is an oxymoron. As if his shouting wasn't enough, he makes faces and is cross-eyed when he sings. Oh and real opera singers get cast in opera.
i love the idea of paul potts.. the ordinary guy who has had confidence issues.. then unlocking such powerful natural ability and unleashing it on his audiences.. u cant help but feel good for the guy..
After hearing the tenors.. I think they have stronger voices... but paul potts is still bloody brilliant and the idea of paul potts is just fantastic..
I think this was just a wonderful video! I really think the fabulous 3 tenors would have welcomed Paul Potts with open arms! Thank you for this video!
i don't think people should be commenting on this who's better than who issue, that's NOT the issue, of course there would be a difference in trained singers and untrained singers, and stop telling people "if you can do better, please let's see & hear your version", just because someone doesn't sing, doesn't mean they can't critique, it's a really unfair comment.
well that's why i hate opera lovers, cause they are so annoying, the 3 tenors are well trained, paul it's a ordinary guy, who happened to sign opera better than everybody posting in this video, that's the whole point, that's why people are in love with this guy, cause hi is one of us, he isn't a huge opera mega-star, and his singing is from his heart, so bravo for paul, he bring back the opera to everybody
Sigh, I'll get flamed by the opera lovers for posting this.. I prefer Paul Potts. He puts more soul in the music. (ok, that was a pretty subjective comparison). How about this: the tenors sound very nasal.
@DenisP908 - I'll go down in flames with you, gladly. As a matter of personal preference, I like Paul Potts' lyric tenor to even the splendid operatic Three Tenors, even Pavarotti who introduced me to this incredible aria in the first place.
3 tenor sound nasal? those are all dramatic tenors which, by definition, makes them sing more to the back of the throat. Paul is attempting, and failing at being a spunta lyrico, or pushed lyric tenor which by definition makes him sing more to the front of his face. take voice lessons and you'll understand, but until then the difference between Potts is that he only sings opera, the 3 tenors DO opera.they have been since they were young. just because you put soul into it doesnt mean it will work
bt0001 ... not powerful enough? maybe, however, he was in tune, and did carry the song nicely. :) by the way if you can do better, please let's see & hear your version :)
I just wanna say :Putting Paul Potts and three tenors together is absolutey inappropriate ,cause it will only let people feel that Paul is not trained enough to sing the opera.

Paul Potts sucks. He is not even close to the 3 tenors. Luciano would be turning in his grave if he heard that people were comparing him to a fat pommy.
To all of you who just have to whine and complain and spew nastyness, please, do it elsewhere. obviously i'm going to keep deleting the nasty (profane) comments, and i just don't see what dissing Mr. Potts in your comments does.
To everyone posting insightful comments of any kind: thanks! :) i never thought this mashup would raise such a fiesty debate. this is great. now i'm getting inspired to make more clips worth your viewing. :) :) :)
you know what, as someone who has sang on the same stage as all of the 3 Tenors, i can honestly say this: Even if he did do some opera here and there, it was by no means extensive, and given that, Paul Potts is not bad for a guy who spent most of his career selling car phones. I found his efforts rather inspired and clearly he reached the audience, even if you turn your nose up at such people. And this video mashup was just my way of recognizing that.
i never realized how far away vocally paul potts is from pavorotti and the 2 other tenors until watching this video. but paul is still an inspiration.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What's... I can believe it! ... "he is not far of them"... he is fucking miles away.... and he will never catch any tenor... because of he is only a marketing product...
paul needs more training but is still gd i find that each singer is different so its hard to compare any singer to another singer no matter what they sing. In one way paul has things that make his voice amazing just in the same way pavarotti has things about his voice that make it amzing. You can't reli compare the two cos there voices are different cos there different people.
pots is nice in what he does ,but its ruther funny to put him next to giants .and it shows the tremendence difrents between real amazing tenors and an ametur that got lucky.
Personally I think Paul Potts puts much more soul into it. I also like the more unrefined voice of Paul, the tenors voices are just well too "trained". Its good to have that kind of raw voice, it sends chills down my spine.
I am not talking about my abbilities and I do not say that I can do it better from Potts, just I am saying that his voice is not so good as the people say it is.
And you can't compare him with the three tenors, because beneath them he "sucks".
Agree with you in everyway - People think that potts has had no training but he has had master classes in italy and performed at a little opera house in Bath numerous times. You totally see & hear the difference with this remix version. Like i said its a mediocre performance from a man who is a commoner = making it "seem special" - when i saw him i knew that i wouldn't like him much vocally & i was right. Its (MY OPINION) & although he might sound nice something is totall missing from his voice.

Paul pots hasn't had as much training or experience as the others. He is still great and can only get better. I think at some point he will be up in the 3 tenor caliber.
my good, when you hear this, it becomes even more incredible that anyone would listen to Paul Potts. He would be ok in an amateur group but why, oh why, listen to him when you can listen to real singers? In my ears, it does not make his singing more bearable that he - in many people's view - has a nice story to tell.
What are you talking about? Paul Potts has an amazing voice. and NATURAL at that. Zero formal training. And you can't say this his singing is 'unbearable'. Please. Ok in an amateur group? I'm curious, what is it that you do that gives you the right to critique an opera singer like that? Stop playing devils advocate and give in. You are one of those people who 'love to hate' what's actually good so you can look cool. Get a life
Incorrect that PP had no formal training. His CV from Bath Opera, an amateur company: "student of Ian Comboy...appeared on national and local television and radio...two summers touring Northern Italy training with one of the major opera schools...masterclasses with...Katia Ricciarelli and Luciano Pavarotti...performed with the Royal Philharmonic. With Bath Opera...Don Ottavio and...Don Carlos. Future plans...Grieux (Manon Lescaut). That he came from nothing and became a star is not true
Domingo & Carreras are probably overall better, more powerful with greater stylistic range - I'm guessing - but in this recording, Potts is the voice that measures up to the song.
nmoresleep - that's a comparison you choose to make. i would however say in his favor that for a total amateur, he did sing that piece rather well, don't you agree? if not, please, if you can sing, let's see you do one better. if you can't sing, i thank you for sparing us. :)
please stop comparing Pots to Great tenors cause he just ain't...By posting this clip it only becomes more clear that he is light years away from the level of the 3 tenors..
your dead right matey, and you made me laugh, cheers, i give a better rendition of this song and im not ashamed to saythat im a rank ameture with not alot of talent, i think potts should do as i did, and stick to gilbert and sullivan so as not overstrech himself, the noob

Paul Potts sucks. He is not even close to the 3 tenors. Luciano would be turning in his grave if he heard that people were comparing him to a fat pommy.
RobNoles79 4 years ago
sucks? you might not like him, but to say he sucks, well, that's just being rude, RobNoles79.

i agree with you! paul potts ih horrible!
trivou 3 years ago
no way. you cant compare paul p. with the 3 tenors.
its just not fair. like me singing @ a caraoke bar claiming im a phil collins.
randomfool0815 4 years ago
your lack of singing talent is not at issue here, randomfool0815 :)

And this video mashup was just my way of recognizing that.
laughzilla 4 years ago
Your voice must be different from the other singer so that you will shine! As long as you deliver the song well! And that's what Paul is!

i never realized how far away vocally paul potts is from pavorotti and the 2 other tenors until watching this video. but paul is still an inspiration.

What's... I can believe it! ... "he is not far of them"... he is fucking miles away.... and he will never catch any tenor... because of he is only a marketing product...
You are really crazy editing such a video...
you see.. you are showing him up!!

paul needs more training but is still gd i find that each singer is different so its hard to compare any singer to another singer no matter what they sing. In one way paul has things that make his voice amazing just in the same way pavarotti has things about his voice that make it amzing. You can't reli compare the two cos there voices are different cos there different people.

they both are signing the same opera aria, I have to agree theres no comparison though, Pavarotti is just light years ahead of Potts.
ArmandoXIII 4 years ago
He is not far from them with a bit of training he will catch up, certainly with Carreras

paul does good for what he has trained his voice but the 3 tenors are just amazing , they are a ferrari while paul is a renault...

is no one actually aware paul potts is a professional if u do a internet search ul find his name listed with tenors
keepster1979 4 years ago
Then he deserves to be judged by their standards- and he's nowhere near them.
qw1234erty 3 years ago
pots is nice in what he does ,but its ruther funny to put him next to giants .and it shows the tremendence difrents between real amazing tenors and an ametur that got lucky.
daniel2526 4 years ago
Personally I think Paul Potts puts much more soul into it. I also like the more unrefined voice of Paul, the tenors voices are just well too "trained". Its good to have that kind of raw voice, it sends chills down my spine.
boruk1 4 years ago
Goodness, even Carreras' voice (which has been nonexistent since his sickness) sounds better to me when put next to Potts' lol

I agree.
In comparation with these three tenors, Potts's voice doesn't sound good at all.
Haristotel 4 years ago
come on ... "doesn't sound good at all" ?? please, let's see your version :)
laughzilla 4 years ago
I am not talking about my abbilities and I do not say that I can do it better from Potts, just I am saying that his voice is not so good as the people say it is.
And you can't compare him with the three tenors, because beneath them he "sucks".
Excuses for the used word :)
Haristotel 4 years ago
heheh :) for a guy who never had any formal training, he did very nicely, and this is a nice way of saying "good on ya."
laughzilla 4 years ago
but its true, he just sounds really off, he sings on a much lower level, technique wise, soul wise, he projects little strenght.

I think at some point he will be up in the 3 tenor caliber.
chrisinsocalif 4 years ago 4
I think death will get him long before that, hes million years behind true tenors.
ArmandoXIII 4 years ago
my good, when you hear this, it becomes even more incredible that anyone would listen to Paul Potts. He would be ok in an amateur group but why, oh why, listen to him when you can listen to real singers? In my ears, it does not make his singing more bearable that he - in many people's view - has a nice story to tell.
tiger1dk 4 years ago
sometimes a nice story is enough, right tiger1dk? :)
laughzilla 4 years ago

That he came from nothing and became a star is not true
tiger1dk 4 years ago
you're still hatin on a good singer...
JackFlash19 4 years ago
Regarding this video, simply stated:
Pavarotti is best.
While Domingo & Carreras strain,
Potts is pure.
Domingo & Carreras are probably overall better, more powerful with greater stylistic range - I'm guessing - but in this recording, Potts is the voice that measures up to the song.
MakeMeAChannel 4 years ago
MakeMeAChannel, that's a nice way of putting it. :) to my ears they all sang this song wonderfully.
laughzilla 4 years ago
nmoresleep - that's a comparison you choose to make. i would however say in his favor that for a total amateur, he did sing that piece rather well, don't you agree? if not, please, if you can sing, let's see you do one better. if you can't sing, i thank you for sparing us. :)

please stop comparing Pots to Great tenors cause he just ain't...By posting this clip it only becomes more clear that he is light years away from the level of the 3 tenors..

i so love placido domingo! he has the most honest emotions when singing!

they're all gifted tenors.
laughzilla 4 years ago
Paul Potts sounds like a "Diet Pavarotti".
footballdemocracy 4 years ago
and considering his publicly known background, it just goes to show if you have music in your soul, you can make it resonate very beautifully.
laughzilla 4 years ago
Interesting. For a ruddy amateur, I guess Potts is pretty good!
ancestralyuba 4 years ago
yes, he is.

yeah, this was bad. the transition btween the different singers was pretty bad.

Imagine a tennis doubles match between Borg, Sampras, Federer and a 1 legged, 1 armed spaz. This is exactly what you have created in singing terms.
