I have this exact juicer. It's fucking awesome. Except for the fact I can't fit whole apples in it like you can, because ... I dunno maybe american apples are way smaller than the ones I buy ?
@eezerik thanks and since using this juicer have you notice a increase in your overall bodily function? I mean do you feel more agile, alert? Also have you unwittingly lost weight?
@PorkChopMissPiggy I eat like a cow. Like, eat a XLarge pizza 12 minutes. .I have weighed between 157-165 with between 5-6% bodyfat for the past 6 years...so I guess the answer is no I haven't lost weight but it's because I try to maintain that weight range.
I juice a lot of celery, cucumbers, and other "alkalizing" veggies, and mix them with protein, etc...and it's better than any juice you could buy by a minimum factor of 2...balanced diet with good vitamins from juice + protein + workout
@Firagax2 How very true, that's why I drink vodka. :) We must choose our poisons welll. What we've done to the world's water supply is criminal. Some areas of the Pacific Ocean has become whole islands of plastic refuse. Fish & wildlife injest the colorful bits thinking they are food. Various chemical compounds are thusly entered into the human food chain.
So, once again, choose your poisons well. Nothing we injest is completely safe. Juice wisely....
Injesting apple seeds without the pulp, juice & skin wouldn't neutralize the cyanide compounds. I had a Physics professor who'd often eat an entire apple during lecture. He always made a big deal about eating the core by popping it into his mouth ceremoniously, chew for about a minute then resume his lecture. It always got a chuckle from the crowd. It was odd because most of us just tossed the core into the trash. But he certainly must have found the seeds delicious since he ate them so often.
BTW, to those concerned about the cyanide compounds in apple seeds, research has shown that the seeds must be chewed & enjested in large quantities without pulp, juice & skin for it to be deemed unhealthy. Seeds present during juicing just wouldn't be much of a health problem. They may actually be health positive. Even if the seeds & pulp are cooked into breads, etc. then the cyanide will be neutralized by heat. Less than 50 mg per one kilo gram of fruit isn't enough to be concerned about.
Concerning toxic apple seeds, I'll comment to the wayward reader interested in juicing. I've been juicing for over 50 years (I'm 61, thanks), and I juice apples whole, always have. So, if anyone is worried about cyanide toxins from apple seeds I'd just research it starting with the raw fruit & veggie community. There's something about eating the whole apple, seeds and all, or juicing it that suggests no presentable ill effects. But, remember, even water consumed in too high doses can be lethal.
The cyanide in fruit seeds is in the form of vitamin B17, which is one of the most powerful anti cancer substances known to man. In the form of vitamin B17, the cyanide is released only at cancer cells, making it a smart and safe chemotherapy that kills only cancer cells while nourishing and sustaining healthy cells. See the video "World Without Cancer" to learn more.
This is largely incorrect. Amygdalin (or the synthetic form Laetrile) was promoted as a cancer cure by Ernst T. Krebs and his son under the name "Vitamin B17" in the hope that if classified as such, then they could market it as a legal supplement. This failed. Several studies have since found amygdalin to be ineffective as a cancer treatment and still toxic because of its decompositional compound, hydrogen cyanide. Apple seeds contain not only amygdalin, but also a cyanogenic glycoside.
Then you are a very gullible and easily manipulated person. I'm well aware of those studies showing it's ineffective and dangerous, they have been manipualted because curing cancer means wiping out the biggest industry on earth. All unbiased studies have proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that vitamin B17 found in food is the most powerful anti cancer substance there is. You should rely on unbiased science rather than people trying to take your life for their profit.
Some fruit seeds do have very mild poison(check wikipedia). Apple is one of them. I don't think it's a a good idea to consume them for a long time; no matter how mild. I would rather cut the apple and remove the seeds before juicing it.
I've owned this juicer for over 3 years and it works today as well as it did new. It's powerful and it extracts fairly well, although there are juicers that perform better at extracting leafy greens and berries they usually cost 3X as much. I'd rather spend the money on the veggies and fruit. You can buy a lot of veggies with the $200 saved on the Breville. It would take many years of juicing to reach the break-even point with the extra money spent for those more expensive juicers.
@metaspherz i have a breville juice fountain elite and i really like it. i also have an old champion, which works ok. i've been looking at the angel juicer and the norwalk juicer. not sure i want to spend that kind of money. the quality of the juice is supposed to be much better though. but i really have no idea. they cost 5-10 x's more than the juice fountain. thanks for the 411 @ the apple seeds
Isaachaze1, yes, the twin auger Super Angel costs about $950. Too expensive for me. So, I bought a Ninja quad blade food processor at Sam's Club for $49. It shreds everything: the greens, veggies, wheat grass like magic! I cut a 12" x 12" piece of cheesecloth, drape it over a bowl, pour the slurry onto it. I squeeze the juice out by hand. Then I put the wrapped ball of pulp into a potato ricer & press out every last drop. Hardly any mess, easy clean-up. Money I saved goes into food to juice.
One last thing Isaac... the Ninja can be bought at most department stores now. Sam's has extra bowls for the same price most stores have. Makes great smoothies too. But I find it great for juicing too. You tube has several vids. See this youtube spamvertisement for a demo: Ninja Master Prep Blender and Food Processor @ Bed Bath & Beyond
well, i have a vitamix, so i'm pretty happy with that. i've heard some people like the magic bullet too as a cheap(er) alternative. i might look at the ninja though just for fun. you might try a milk bag too to strain it. thanks for all the info
Thanks back at you. I hear good things about the Vitamix. I own the magic bullet set and a Cuisinart food processor but neither can process greens quite as fast and as easily as the Ninja. I like how the top Ninja blades move up and down when pulsing to catch stubborn leaves.
But, like you, if I had a Champion juicer I'd have no need for the Ninja or for squeezing nut milk bags full of wet pulp. They're just temporary solutions at best. Good luck.
i did some research on the ninja out of curiosity. looks like the secret with it is the super-sharp blades. that's pretty cool. the champion is old, but it works pretty well. the breville is really fast. yea, the vitamix is badass

is the pulp dry?
PorkChopMissPiggy 1 year ago
@PorkChopMissPiggy not completely. though I don't know any juicers where the pulp is completely dry.
It's not super high-end, but it seems to be a good value for the price. I've used this quite regularly and it's still going strong.

yeah i was watching one of those reality documentaries. i think it's called snapped and this woman killed her husband by cyanide poisoning. lol

Be careful about juicing certain seeded fruits whole because the seeds can have toxic compounds in them, such as the cyanide compound in apple seeds.
