@Jakedastudly oh i did watch IB,3 times, cause it's like every tarantino movie, you gotta watch it over and over again so it gets better and better :D so yeh of course balanced view is important, but king's speech isn't about that, i mean germany, world war II is really in the backround, at least that's how i felt it. it was more about one person's struggle and such, and yes, right before world war II, but for me it's really not a war movie, not like IB or Schindler's List etc

They weren't really portrayed as the "villains" in this film. They're not really a part of the plot at all. The screenwriters only mention Adolph Hitler's oratorial skills (true, they were full of Nazi propaganda rot) as a comparison point to King George VI's struggles with his speech.

@TheNewFenomeno As a former stutterer, (still do sometimes) I am doubtful as to how helpful this exercise would really be of help. The only way to not stammer is to confront your fears. Stammering is not something that you can over eradicate, but something you can mitigate. It is like falling. The more you fall, the more you understand that it is not so painful and you learn how to brace yourself better.

When you are stuck on what you're trying to say, exhale, inhale, and then start on the same word that you had trouble with. I find this to be extremely helpful with my own speech. People will just think that you're pausing and thinking of what you want to say next. It will make your stutter less noticeable.

This was a GREAT movie. I have watched it 4 times and rented it twice!.....But I have to say, maybe its because I am an American.....King George VI did not ever give Mr. Logue what he deserved. All he did was make him a member of the Victorian order!! Not even high enough in the order to allow him to use the prefix "Sir."!! He totally, and absolutely should have made him a peer of some sort. Maybe an Earl or a Viscount??? Or even his daughter Elizabeth ll. I mean look what Lional did for him!!!

@TheOrangeFondler Yes, she did say "Duke of York". I think it was changed because if the trailer said "Duke of York" people would not know she was referring to the future George VI. Saying "the King" makes it easier to know who you're talking about if the story is unfamiliar. In this case, I think we should cut them some slack.

Which would make for more interest: a duke with a stammer begging for help--or a king? This is one of my favorite movies, Colin Firth deserved his Oscar.

This movie surely put King George VI under a light different from the ridiculing, sarcastic one we were given of him by the propaganda of the fascist régime, 1935-1945. He was a dignified king, and his refusal to leave England and escape from the dangers of German aerial raids was a sign of great courage. Ours should have taken example from him, instead of doing his cowardly escape to safety and allied protection on Sep 9, 1943. It is also true circumstances were different, but the facts remain.

Having a voice doesn't guarantee he'll be listened to, but without a voice he can't do anything. He's a King so no matter what he'll at least be heard.
