  • 1977 manchester apollo yea pint roll up good music peace out

  • Amazing musician and amazing music!

  • Agree with Bolly558,when you think of the shite that gets in the charts these days you wonder why talent like John Miles was never a masive star world-wide.

  • @lezzliea - simple really, in the 70s there was so much 'real' talent around that John just didn't 'cut it' with a lot of people. These days, you've got acts from x factor against other acts from x factor for chart domination. The ONLY thing that sets today's 'artists' apart is who is the best looking! Also, you only need to sell a few thousand records to get a hit today but those 'hits' stay in the chart for a few weeks only. It's a totally different ball game really.

  • @jezzyby47 you are simply right.

  • @lezzliea Absolutely spot on.Not much talent these days. This is song is one of my all time faves.Genius.

  • Excellent song from an excellent album... massively underrated. Stranger in the City is still one of my favourite albums and I still listen to it 30-odd years on.

Thanks for posting... made my day !

  • Saw him at the 'City Hall' in Hull in '78. Still have the programme too! Absoultely brilliant band; no synthetic pop here! My girlfriend at the time went thinking she would be bored and came out the biggest fan! Hmmm, I wonder what she's doing now....

  • Always thought John was very under-rated in the UK. Think he had a rough time with Decca towards the end as well. Saw him twice in the 70s here in Stoke-on-Trent. He and the band were amazing both times. Music is my all time fave track by him. But this one comes into my all time favourite Top 20 too. All time classics....

  • @Bolly558 - watch the live version of Music that has been uploaded by someone called derniko2006 - it's the best version on YT. Awesome, he's still got it.

  • laaverly!

  • I was only born in 78, but still I'm a fan. Good music stays forever!

  • jezzyby47, you are fabulous! One of my all time favourite songs - I never saw it on Top of the Pops. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • A song that will always live with me.

  • Anybody out there do the tours with John & The Band in the mid to late 70'S. There were two of us who never missed a gig. By the end of the 70's we were running the fan club. Any memories would be good to hear.

  • I bought this single when it came out, used to make me cry! Love his work with Alan Parsons project.

    Thanks for posting, great memory.

  • Portsmouth Guildhall. Surprised me that he did "Music " so early in the set as if it was something of no importance. Had a poster for the show but in a moment of mad generosity i gave it away. Signed by all the band it was too. Michael Ball covered "Music"on one of his albums.

  • Uk Gold was Thames and BBC. Supersonic was LWT. It was i think one of those times TOTP had a space free and JM got the gig as he was "bubbling under. Its the single edit and its sung live as you would expect from this fine and underrated musician. Saw him on the MMPH tour and he was brilliant.

  • I saw him on that tour also. Still got the programme. I saw him in Bradford, where did you see him?

  • Not Supersonic cos thats Ed Stewpot Stewart at the end. Its more likely to be from Top Of The Pops.

  • Yes i know but the set looks more like Supersonic than TOTP. Although Supersonic always had Mike Mansfield in the control room saying something like 'roll VT' or something similar. This was a rehash in the early 90s, so maybe they cobbled some links together from the 2 programmes? Remember Yesterday was a hit around 1976 though and Ed Stewart looked like he would have looked in the 70s, not the 90s when this was shown on UK Gold. Probably was TOTP.

  • Made a vid of the same song recently but my first time to see this ,didn't realise it was ever on TOTP .,Deserved to be a no 1 ...thanks

  • Glad you like it - and him. A true star. Actually, looking at the set, it might have been Supersonic.

  • Just love Bob Marshall's strides... Was that Gary Moberly or Brian Chatton on keyboards?

  • Got a whole concert from around 1981/2 with Russell Harty introducing it. Track list is - Highfly, Rebel, When you lose someone so young, Music man, Don't want to be without you, Time, Music, Don't give me your sympathy, Stranger in the city and Slow down. I'm getting round to it. Also got Slow down from TOTP to upload today and a track from Razzmatazz and 2 tracks from Pebble Mill at One.

  • Thanks for posting this !!! If you have any other JM live video please add them ! ;-)
