  • Young Nero Feat. ILL Morale-Fly Till I Die/ sick young rappers help them out yo...

  • This is one of my favourite Hip Hop tunes ever !.. I bought this Pete Rock album after it was recommended to me while I was buying Techno. Haven't got my vinyl with me right now, so it's great to hear it on hear : )

  • Talib should make more shit with producers as Pete or Pre. Now a days is one of the bests mc's

  • i live in a farily affluent, white neighborhood. people ask me why i'm so into hip hop even though i'm not black. as soon as they ask the question, i know they really have no idea what hip hop is.

You don't have to be a certain race to enjoy good music. this is one of the last strains of music to have soul, a message to give, a story to tell. its got jazz, poetry, feeling, all wrapped into one system-bumpable package. its hip hop.

  • I posted the ending beat and looped it to the best of my ability. Check it out!

  • why do people have to bring up mainstream in underground hip hop

  • east coast all day every day niggaz

  • pete should make an instrumental that sounds like the very ending of this

  • That interlude at the end of the track is CRAZY!!! Pete Rock puts little pieces of heaven between the track. DoPE!!!!

  • And look at all them young cats like Torae, Skyzoo, J,Cole, Wale, Jay Electronica, Blu, Fashawn, Emilio Rojas, Bekay etc.. I could keep on teelin you guys names. HIp Hop aint dead, it just went there were it came from, form the underground. AND ALL YOU YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE ME... PROMOTE THESE ARTISTS AT YOUR SCHOOL OR IN YOUR CITY. HIP HOP WILL NEVER DIE IF THERE ARE STILL PEOPLE WHO LOVE IT FROM THEIR HEART !

  • This loop from 1:12 to 1:23 is just brillant.

The whole track also - complete craziness!

  • this shit is a banger. my favorite song.

  • DOPE SHIT!!!!!

  • ...soldier716 I just peeped you're 20 years old. That' why you think lil' wayne can rap. You haven't been around long enough to know better. Do some digging. Not a diss. Just pulling your coat.

  • true to wat u said, but im 23 and im stuck in a timezone when i kept listening to artists like Pete Rock and i didnt even realize at the time, and listening to it nowadays, its made sense to why all those old songs were so fresh.

Only artists in modern times that can live up the reputation is Madlib, possibly Kid Cudi, Little Brother and few others.

The Roots, Pete Rock, and now Rakim have always kept the torch...im curious about Rakim's 7th Seal.

  • @kneosoul ...Man just let them talk. I Mean im 16. Wu Tang came around the Corner when i was born and im from Germany. "Havent been around long enough" isnt a excuse. Ether you have or you dont have it. If Dilla, Prem or Pete dont blew your mind away the first time you here this music, then theres no help for you. Let them chart lovin "hip hop" cats talk, they really dont know better...

  • Thank you, brother. There's truly hope for your generation. I'm exactly twice your age. I'm impressed. Yeah. These kids don't know the time of day. If you think lil' wayne is hot you're in need of an emergency education! Thanks pimp0707.

  • @kneosoul Appreciate your answer man. Hip Hop dont worry. You always have been abused. I mean back then it was Tag Team or something who absued hip hop just for the love of the money. Today we have Gucci etc. But one thing is clear. This chart hip hop always changed, it came and it was gone the next day. Real Hip Hop survived really since 79.

  • This Jam came out in 2004... Pete & C.L got back together and made a few tracks before fallin out again...

  • da beginnin jus sucked me in,

dis soulful hip hop is da greatest.

hip hop aint dead, every1 jus thinks its coo ta bump mainstream. unlike any1 who comes across music like dis.

any1 who bumps dis kinda music is a homie of mines anyday

  • hip hop is dead in the mainstream market but i DO know wat u mean. there r a few keeping it alive still

  • @djfrederick3 sup homey!

  • to make it properly, yes... it is. also extremely time consuming. but so worth it

  • Comment removed

  • a lot of people under 25 who have common sense and know whats right from right can tell what is hip hop

  • That Shit's called "Hip-POP".... (Spell- Check- to)

  • 50 cent can eat a dick! KRS ONE needs top fuck his ass up and show him who REALLY deserves respect! Talib, Jeru, Lost Children of Babylon, Jedi Mind Tricks, Outer space, Mood, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest are REAL Hip-Hop, NOT 50 Cent! Never Blaspheme Hip-Hop by mentioning his ass on here ever again cause all you idiots do is PROVE that you have absolutely NO fucking clue as to what REAL Hip-Hop is, and it's not 50 Cent, Gay-Z, Rhianna, or Kanye West!

  • Right on!!!!!

  • i no wt ur sayin cs im on dat real hip-hop but u gota admit sum of jay z's old songs are good like "dead presidents"

  • yea dude you should hear jay z when he was free styling with big l. that shit if fuckin raw. just look it up man Big L and Jay-Z Freestyle

  • @mia624 Word. Fuck 50

  • @mia624 Gay-Z was okay in the beggining but not even a nails of Guru RIP one of the lyricist master.

  • @mia624 You absolute wanker....

  • @mia624

word, word, WORD my boy straight on top!!

  • @mia624 That's correct apart from "Gay-Z"

he may have fallen off now but Reasonable Doubt was a masterpiece

  • @mia624 kanye is hip hop.

  • @mia624 agreed dude.Also let's not forget Nas and CL smooth,Gangstarr.

  • this is to 1214storm im from houston tx n alot of bull comes out of this town but some of us r still straight hip-hop listen to k-otix they from h-town

  • Damn I fuckin' love Kweli. Check out my Hot Thing Remix! Would've been really nice. Hip hop's still alive.

  • Aye do u kno tht one Talib kweli song where it starts off like a girl and she is tryin to pronounce his name but she cant get

  • Reflection Eternal (Hi-Tek & Talib Kweli) - The Blast

Off the album Train of thought

  • Classic Album

  • Why the hell is 50 cent being discussed on a Pete Rock/Kweli track??? Riddle me that??? LOL

  • Nevawrong was just wrong 2 include m and g unit with the greats.

  • Agreed 50 is shit I dont know anyone that likes his Weak team- WU TANG Forever

  • His samples are crazy.

But I think that bassline is from the sample, but philtered out the high noise, and turned up the low noise..giving it pure bass..and he just chopped it up real nice.

    =]

    amazing track

  • i love my years of growin up on hiphop

1980 at age 8 - SUGAR HILL first album "RAPPERS DELIGHT"

1984 at age 12 - THE PEAK OF THE BREAKIN ERA & RUN-DMC arrived

    1988 at age 17 - RAKIM, KOOL G.RAP, KANE, & KRS-1 was out

    1993 at age 21 - WUTANG arrived

1995 at age 24 - EAST & WEST COAST RAP was at its peak, & the NEWYORK club seen was HOT

    2003 at age 31 - G-UNIT & EMENEM was on FIRE

but now in 2009 at age 37, HIPHOP IS DEAD, but im fortunate to be young in its best years :)

  • Great "hip hop evolution" list.

  • thanks, i just wish that i couldve fit every other hiphop era in there, but its just not enuff room in that little ass youtube box, lol

  • dissagree about g-unit.. Em was hot.. And i disagree that hip hop is dead.. Talib, Common, Immortal technique, mos def, lupe fiasco to name a few.. And q-tip just had a very good album..Nas is still hot. it ain't what it used to be, but imo that is the case since let's say 95...

  • incase you didnt know, G-UNIT was HOT in between 1999 & 2005. with albums like "POWER OF THE DOLLAR", "GUESS WHO'S BACK", & "BEG FOR MERCY", those were all HOT STREET ALBUMS that hood niggas were all feeling back then, especially in the streets & ghettos of NEWYORK. then in 2003, 50CENT came out with the classic "GET RICH OR DIE TRYING", & that shit sold 11 million world wide. so u can diss G-UNIT now, but from 1999 to 2005, they were on FIRE, & should get credit for inventing the MIX TAPES

  • He was always shit 50 raps like he just woke up they made big but hes still trash in my eyes and everyone I know

  • 11 million? If numbers of albulms sold measure how good you think someone is you must be a huge Backstreet Boys fan? Inventing the MIX TAPES? Oh boy. I'm sorry you got fooled into thinking those were hot street albulms(coming from 50 who can't walk the streets after being shot).

  • i never said that 50 was the best rapper, but he's definately far from the worst. 50 is a pretty good rapper who makes cool songs. so what he doesnt have the same lyrical skill as a NAS or IMORTAL TECH?.i can name a few rappers thru the years who were just basic rappers - PRODIGY, FATJOE, EAZY E, BIZ MARKIE, SHOCK G, OLD D. BASTARD, GROUP HOME, MASTA P, WAREN G, & a few more. all those rappers were'nt really great lyricist, but they were good, & good is exceptable in hiphop, because its not wack

  • nevawrong, your a fool. ODB was a great lyricist, none of his stuff was basic everything about him was complexed and witty

  • dont get me wrong, i loooooooove ODB, i even got the pleasure of meating him in the club TUNNELL back in 1995 when i was 24 years old, & me, him & madd other dudes were goin crazy to his song "BROOKLYN ZOO" on the dance floor, lol (TRUE STORY!),

ODB has cool crazy lyrics, but he is not considered a lyricist like NAS, JAY-Z, RAEQUEON, BIG-L, KOOL G.RAP, KRS-1, RAKIM & more, but ODB is not on the wack level either, & thats how i feel about 50CENT also, because SOULJA BOY is the wack level

  • & just because a dude cant walk the streets doesnt mean he's not a street nigga. i'm a street nigga,& when i was young in the 1990's crack era, there were a few hoods in NEWYORK that i couldnt walk thru, because me & my people's had beef in that particular area. doesnt mean i was pussy, its just that particular area was static 4 me,so i simply stayed away from it. & 4 your info, 50 do be in FAR ROCK QUEENS sometimes with MAZARADY FOX. he's just not broadcasting it all over the place, & for what?

  • Jedi Mind Tricks, Non-Phixion all better than 50s sleep rap

  • you could have not broke that down any better than that. Apparently we grew up in the same time frame, and you are absolutely 100% correct. but i just want to point out that hip hop is not dead it just dont get no air play on the radio. You still have real MC's out there that are underground. ill bill, jedi mind tricks, Immortal Technique, Braille, Cunninglinguist, Q-Unique, just to name a few. Its a shame that the south claimes to be hip hop, that shit is wack.

  • youre 100% correct

  • I agree, Lil Wayne, Plies, Soulja Boy, Gucci Maan, & Drake wack but I don't wanna completely dissmiss the south cuz there are real niggaz in the south like Scarface, Pimp-C (R.I.P), Bun B, T.I, Goodie Mob, Dre3000, Big Boi, & 8-BALL & MJG.

  • YOU TUBE GRAYCO LETTER TO JAY Z DAMN!

  • Ok first of all i agree wit the rest of them niggas but wayne and drake... WHACK??? hell no wayne go hard in his own flo jus like everybody else, retard.. and Drake.. he goes fucken nuts, u must aint heard all his shit plus he from toronto not da south.. retard. gucci mane jus rap off some really hot instros he tlk bout dumb shit wit a dumbass flo, and soulja toy jus done all the fuck up,, he whack as hell. he need to turn his brain on instead of his swagg

  • phonte from little brother should be close to the top of that great southern rapper lsit.

wayne is usually terrible, a few decent tracks. drake is hit or miss. his tracks with wayne are terrible, but his tracks with elzhi and phonte are very good. listen to "think good thoughts", specifically phonte's verse. also try "the search" from drake.

  • agreed to the fullest. the south got some real shit...pretty much anything outkast related, i didnt realize the south brung it till i discovered the greatness of big boi and andre

  • this is the only sick album so far released this millenium.

    (in my opinion)

whatever happened to the 90's FUCK I MISS IT SO MUCH!

    this just confirms it.

    D.

  • 'So many niggaz buggin me I need a fuckin pesticide'!! WOW!

  • kweli rocks smooth

pete rock beat king no doubt.

  • pete rock+cl smooth+kweli=great shit

  • Mad props yo

    1.

  • I love this! Oh my god this is the lick.

  • where can i dl this?

  • I could keep on just listening to that bassline it's so bangin

  • Pete Rock is awesom dude all his music is great and never gets old

  • pete rock and dj premier are the reasons why i love hiphop

  • That's what I'm talking about!!!! Much respect!!!!

  • Same here. Real Hiphop is to only be appreaciated here.

  • don't forget dilla :)

  • dilla and flylo

  • MAn whoever said this instrumental ain't banging must be on crack.. this gotta be one of the best instrumentals ever for me.. dunno it's got that spaced out feel. I got about 20 fave instrumentals but I love this one. I hadn't heard the vocal track till now.

  • nothin but love on the hip hop tracks...i love it! no hatin. peter rock is always the shit...enough said. everyone should check out petestrumentals...another pete rock classic!

  • Buggin... Even Tho T.R.O.Y. is my fav Pete Rock track, Pete got better as he got older homie

  • u gotta pick up ini - center of attention its the best shit pete's ever produced...even better than the main ingredient with cl smooth...peep that johny

  • Oh Shit!!! Does anybody know the beat at the end?!!!

  • Damn...first time i heard this. Fire Beat!!!!

    Real Hip Hop!!!

  • FLY TILL I DIEEE

  • genious

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh yess yessss here we go. Oh its gone RockSmoothKweli its like fucking Blackstar or Nastradomis sum big shitt.

  • talib an pete are still the bests

  • Refreshing

  • what does this song sample?

  • the best song of pete rock !!!

  • the things he made with ini were a bit better i think

  • nice flow

  • i got soul survivor I & II

  • man! this's one of those song that takes you back in the time u know what am sayin', these brothers is definatly bringin' the hip hoppin' back.

  • I still wonder what Pete Rock uses for his basslines who knows? Makes it sound so thick.

  • what he do is filter the bass out of the sample....but i guess he use studio shit to thickin it

  • I think he uses the 16 level pitching on a bass sound on the MPC

i can hear him using the same kinda bass in different beats.

    Kinda sounds like a minimoog.

  • i try to do this since months ago, can you explain how to do it?

  • I read a interview with him. And i think he uses a synth for his non-filtered basslines.

As for how to do it...its pretty simple in programs like FL Studio or Reason. There should be filter knobs with CUT and RESonation which you can tweak. Its best to get a decent sound first before though.

  • Now i know what beat Pete Rock plays in his MPC 2xl video

  • I second that comment regarding Common. There's a few other heads out there doin it too. A lot of heads underground too.

  • brilliant lineup, but the song isnt good.

but talib hasnt done anything good since reflection eternal

  • I can't agree with that. Granted, maybe "Eardrum" or "Quality" might be questionable cd's, I honestly think that "Beautiful Struggle" continued where "Reflection Eternal" left off, as far as his lyrical flow and the messages behind it. You cannot deny the fact that we need Hip Hop music that embodies the importance of MCing and not garbage.

  • How could you not feel this song?

  • new kweli is dope. plus that album he did a year ago with madlib. man what you talkin bout

  • ridiculous comment... this is hip hop

  • talib is awsome...i hold him n common on the same level of keeping "hiphop alive"...i love his new video...very creative brother...=o]

  • wooooooooooooooooord

  • ...to yur muther!!!...lol=o]
