What you hear is the beginning of the term smoothjazz...i guess the musiclabels need a name for it but this was smoothjazz made like real music...with real feelings...and talent...
Oh Yea! I have this on Cassette but it's good that I find it here...back in da dazz when my head use ta be bad as any head could be... it was James -n-Sanborn.
Saw David Sanborn (with Joey DeFrancesco) at a jazz club 2 months ago. David was a little under the weather, but still the set was great. Never having seen him live before, I wondered if he would play my favorite- this. Even though Marcus Miller's bass was missed, I wasn't disappointed.
este tema ja devia ser Hino oficial da nossa cidade, que completou mais um ano d vida ha dias.. alguem ja pensou em contactar o bob e o marcus miller? tsc...
In the mid-to-late 1980s, ABC TV had primetime musical promos. This song was the third and last of them. I don't know what the first song was. But I do know, "Communion (Instrumental)," by Swing Out Sister was the second one.
I remember when the Christian Science Monitor first started their shortwave radio station (I was stationed overseas at the time) and at the end of one particular DJ's shift he would play this but never tell us who did it. One day he said, "People have been writing to ask what this song is..." and once I found out who did it, I rushed out to buy DOUBLE VISION. What fantastic memories every time I play this track/album!
@boswell69...Thanks for posting this one.Brings back good memories of my first job working in a record store. I remember most of the customers purchased this cassette tape.It was hot...So was Run D MC's "Raising Hell" and Anita Baker's Rapture.
Hello boswell69. Looking for a new age/jazz song from the 1980's. I believe the name of it is "Mister Inspector" or something similar. Ever heard of it? Thanks.
This artist manages to discover within it's listeners a soulful residence unknown to the listener unless he hears this soulful beat with his heart. Great groove and smooth silky vibe that just captures the essence of jazz. in a profound manner.
this gives me the sense memory of driving in late October of 1986 under a full Hunters moon and seeing the undulating frosted rows of corn sparkle as they waited for harvest.
I collected many Bob James albums in the '70's and '90's. All of the compositions are such that you can listen over and over and over ...and still hear something new - a nuance, an emotion, an expression that would make the song new again.
This tune, with Sanborn is now considered a classic. It STILL gets airplay over 20 years after its original release. It is a standard for any station that considers itself "jazz radio."
When I first heard this it was 20 years ago it was playing during a shortwave radio frequency which I have forgotten what it was it took me 20 years to find out what the song was in which I do love this song and and I will play it over and over
what an album! withsuperb backup from steve gadd, drums, paul jackson jr guitar, marcus miller bass, paulinho da costa, percussion! quality stuff ,sanborn and bob james just incredible!!
It is amazing to read everyones comments, they straight from the heart and and lets me know that music is what it is to each and everyone us but it is always great by artists who prove by what they do that aint about the money tho it helps, its about creating and enjoying what they do. We get to hear the results of the effort.
@sduduzo11 damn. so did i. my father used to play this when i was a kid and i couldn't care less about it then. now when i hear this i always think of the old house i grew up in and the smell of the woods when it just finished raining or during late afternoons when he usually played this LP.
@goldandchrome Well I guess you had what it took to get it. I guess the mood was right, you were a good man, and the woman(en) was into you so much, that she (they) had to give it up. Congratulations.
Such a legendary classic by two of the finest musicians ever born. Epic classic!
