My mom was watching B5 wbw and the few episodes I saw when visiting her made me want more. Years passed and a car injury knocked me out the work force 2007. I was able to purchase the entire movie, 1st to 5th season and the Lost tale. But I want the Crusades and because of my injuries it to me a year to walk again and because of the times cannot purchase the Crusades. JMZ dealt with a lot to finish the B5 and lost tales. It is sad he couldnt finish
@FormicHiveQueen Had WB let JMS do his thing and not meddled in the creative process it might have turned out ok. I didn't think it was that bad. I equate it to the first season of B5 which had a lot of unrelated standalone episodes compared to the rest of the series. Crusade was slowly building up its own mythos but got cut short cause it wasn't the cash cow WB hoped it to be.
what was the episode title at the end of the babylon 5 series "Where the humans turned into Vorlon like being with encounter suits" it was like the final stage of human evolution? right before they left Earth.
@gribae well dude thats an old muve or whatever it is so i gues it was good when it come up but for todays standard there is games with beter grafics etc..
It was not a game - it was not even a movie. It was a television SHOW. And there's no disputing it was bad - spin-offs are always crap. But its predecessor, Babylon 5 was cutting edge televison series for its time. Even today it is almost impossible to beat, story-arc AND graphics.
Yeah, it I believe Crusade was killed by the TNT network. Just like how season 5 of B5 almost didn't happen, JMS had a vision of where he wanted it to go. Leave it for big wigs at a network to kill something awesome.
I think the big studio wigs put lots of pressure on the creators to distance Crusade from B5. And in doing so managed, most sadly, to murder it. Then tell the creators it was murdered! I agree there r times I watch and just think, the acting's great, I love that shot..but damn!..That music's hurting my brain!!
@michaelhviper Yes they did :) JMS says they find the cure about a year and a half into Crusade...least that's how he planned it. Making what happened during the rest pretty interesting! :)
crusade could have been as great as b5 - IF they changed the intro to something more epic, they change the doctor (she looks clumsy) and left out strange episodes like the one with that alien in the sphere or that x-files episode.
I enjoyed the X-Files episode as a stand alone experience, but agree that it just didn't seem to fit very well. To enjoy a B-5 story, I think that one must suspend disbelief and enter the B-5 universe. Though I found it funny, the gimmicky crossover served to pull me out of a fantasy mindset and back to RL in the midst of the story. Crusade never seemed to acheive that 'feel' that B-5 had. Perhaps it had to do with behind-the-scenes issues.
I honestly only remember the episode where they encounter a pre-space flight world who's government knew about aliens, (in particular humans) but kept it from the public.
After watching all the 13 episodes of Crusade I noticed one thing that could completely destroy the entire storyline. Maybe what I'm about to say is stupid however since the virus is a nanotechnology virus couldn't it be killed with some EMP? Imagine, just like chemotherapy is used for cancer couldn't EMP radiation be used to simply kill or disable the virus since EMP destroys electronics.
Babylon 5 hasn't finished though...The Lost Tales was never intended to be a one-off, and the decision to make more straight to DVD projects was to be based on sales of The Lost Tales DVD, which were known to exceed expectations. The decision was to be made a small while ago, but was postponed due to the writers guild strike. Now the strike is over, don't be surprised if new Babylon 5 straight to DVD projects are announced soon. Seeing as sales of Lost Tales were strong, it looks very promising.
A spin off of B5 could still come back it would take some doing but with Stargate sg1 almost down and BSG coming to an end, we need a good sci-fi to fill the void not this crap for the UK yea its o.k but a B% spin off would be best i mean even SGA is losing people and we need some thing new.
The Victory class destroyers are insanely powerful, the main weapon is the same as the Vorlon mothership (1 shot from it destroys Shadow mothership). Thus the Victory class is the most powerful ship in the galaxy (since the Vorlons left).
The series was cancelled before it really got a chance to kick off it's major story arcs- they would have found the facility that produced the Shadow Hybrid ship that destroyed Gideon's old ship, revealing Galen's mission to hunt down left over Shadow tech, and the knowledge of which would have forced the crew to go against Earthforce- with assistance from Lochley who would have had to make the choice she didn't have to during the Earth Civil War.
The existing episodes hint at a much better series if you watch the show in a proper episode order (ignoring uniform changes), which then creates some character arcs that are otherwise lost.
Try watching it in this order: Racing the Night, The Memory of War, The Needs of Earth, The Long Road, Visitors From Down the Street, The Well of Forever, Ruling from the Tomb, Patterns of the Soul, Each Night I Dream of Home, The Path of Sorrows, The Rules of the Game, Appearances & Other Deceits. Just ignore War Zone, as it;s horrible and was never meant to exist.
Yeah, it is truly such a great, great shame that interpersonal politics, arrogance, and money had to come inbetween JMS and the telling of his story... To stop a series, simply because it wont bring in a completely new audience (which the B5 universe had already done, in fairness) and enlarge TNT's overall audience figures, is ridiculous... But what can you do? Intelligence is not one of Hollywoods strong points.
Yeah, I still can't hate TNT just because they DID give us season 5 (which would have had the last 4 or 5 episodes of 4 stretched out into half the season) but i really just wish that SCIFI hadn't exhausted their budget at the time B5 was looking for a new home kuz crusade would fit right in with the stargate and battlestar crowd
I bet there might be a big screen movie just because Hollywood keeps cannibalizing already existing franchises and JMS is making more and more of a name for himself as a writer.. and if not, some day sooner or later someone will "get it" as much as JMS again, & i bet there's going to be a backlash against all this mindless explosion mtv generation scifi going on today & people are going to want to see stuff more like the outer limits just updated since we're now surrounded by science fact
In my opinion they shouldnt ressurect b5 i love the show n it's made a lasting impression on me n every1 that has the same opinion about the show that i do will really skepticize it n compare it right off the bat n it could fail because of it.
it was like B5... started out a bit weak, but the 5-year story planned for it was going to be orgasmic... unfortunately TNT decided to get out of any sci-fi shows... fuckers :(
Crusade was not given the chance it should have been. As for the big screen movie, it's going to be difficult. Without Andreas Katsulas and Richard Biggs it just isn't the same.
Its a real shame there wasnt more series of Crusade..

If the "good guys" didn't have any drawbacks to their arsenals, it would make every episode rather boring and pointless to watch, if they always won.
I personally don't think this series should have gone ahead. Spin-offs, no matter what plots are involved, never truely work out.

No, it was intended only as a 5-year story arc, so there's very little chance of it returning to our screens in new episodes.
But, as with all great shows, I've no doubt that sometime in the future, someone will try and ressurect it, like they did with Battlestar Galactica.
