Practice hard for grace notes, the Bb, C, Bb, and G most be very careful, you can miss the Bb after C, the ones in sad moment is about air, and the fast one is fingering thats all.
@FaixKurochan I'm playing the horn and they have that grace notes. So how do you play it? Its normally its from Bb to G. With the grace notes, its Bb, C Bb, G
@FaixKurochan lol i did to, played the flute. I saw the last two pages and thought id be able to play it when hell froze over. I got it down XD . This song is like a legend in our band
yes the oboist is amazing! she went slightly flat for one to two note but that is totally forgivable! i think she is still very awesome!!! i even heard vibrato/rubato within her playing. xylo/mallet player is also very professional and sharp/clean in his playing. overall, given their age, i think they perform way beyond what would be expected of them. the sound is really tight and clean. running notes of woodwinds are very well executed and in sync with xylo also.
oboe was super nice with the accompaniment of the french horn, Nice solo. I play the tenor saxophone and i find yr band's sound, tones and dynamics very nice. Wish my band can play as well as you all but confirm cannot because you are just too professional compared to us. :)
we played this for competition 9 yrs back.. the melody is still so deeply entrenched. This band is good, though the trombones slowed down a little at the soli.. xylo is amazing, but the xylo player for my band could play like this too back then
they hurried some of the notes after the grace notes. its not really that hard if you practice. and some of the parts in the beginning are played a little too slow. or we might have played it a little too fast... :) but it is a very nice song. and very nicely played...
They played it pretty well... But the lower brass shouldnt be playing over the clarinets and flutes. Can hardly hear them at some parts and they have purposeful parts on it.
I played this song 2 years ago in band. Im a clarinet and measure 174 suckedddd lol. It was qnnoying. ( measure 174 is the fast ending like 1 min from end)
OMG! Were you at WSU? Because I was a flute there this past weekend and I totally agree that it was WAY to hard! (and us lazy second flutes don't do grace notes... hell, we barely do notes!)
This is my all time favourite song, i listen to it almost everyday!! I play 1st clarinet in my band and am looking foward to playing this song again next year!! lovely oboe solo! good work
Our band is playing this, I play bari sax (th best) and i agree with draccanon they are asian or chinese or something they dont count because they are all good no matter what.
My band's playing Persis... but instead of an oboe, (we don't have one, we're somewhat small but we pack a punch =D) so we have a flute solo there... x_x It sounds gorgeous with a flute.
oh god...... my sch band playin tat 4 outdoor n we nid 2 memorise measures 174 to de end!!! i dun tink i can do tat especially if de speed is as fast as tat.........
im gonna be playing this song for my school band which im not in that band (i play mallet and no one else plays so my teacher require me from another band)
you guys help me as a guide to play this song cuz i never get a chance to listen or rehersal w/ the band much
This has always been one of my favorite pieces, because my high school played it a couple years back, and we did a marching version of it that was so much fun to watch last year. You can really feel the story the song tells.
You all did a great job with this piece.
One thing, work on balance in the trumpets. A 1st was sticking out pretty bad near the beggining, but it fixed itself.

I really like how the oboe doesn't sound like a chorus of dying seagulls. My band's oboe does >.<

FaixKurochan 1 year ago
@FaixKurochan How do you play the small tiny notes in between the the normal ones?
RSign321 1 year ago
@RSign321 They're called grace notes, and they're like thirty-second notes between other notes. It's supposed to be a sort of slur for woodwinds.
FaixKurochan 1 year ago

RSign321 1 year ago
@RSign321 Normally grace notes are slurred, so you would slur the horn through the Bb, C, Bb, and G.
