Rich, this really necessary to replace the multifunction switch? can't i just take off the housing and replace the switch without remocing the steering wheel?
Rich - what happens if the coil turns? I removed mine before watching this video and did not tape mine (had to replace the ing switch). Do I need to replace it or ??
@dleeret no bigy it just has to be recentered.Rotate the center hub clockwise all the way til it stops then rotate it counterclockwise all the way till it stops counting the turns as you go.Now turn it back clockwise half the turns you counted and now your coil is centered.
@Richpin06a One thing I would add is that anyone trying to pull off a steering wheel like you did should have the nut on a few threads first ! I lost a front tooth doing something similar with a gearbox casing.
I see. Well thanks for the great videos. I used to own a gen 1 s- series and i regret selling it. It was the easiest car to work on. It had over 247k miles and it ran like a champ.
@munoz4415 I tried to remove the steering wheel on two cars without success because i did not have my puller with me.The next day i returned with the puller and did the job.
Is this procedure basically the same for most cars? I have a 03 saturn vue that needs it's sir coil replaced. Any differences you know of or anything specific about replacing the coil?
Ha ha Rich, love those Christmas style red socks! Another great video to cap off the year. I always wondered how this comes apart, thanks for posting.
How does one insure that the air bag does not go off while working on it. In the past I have disconnected the battery and the yellow connector, but wonder if thats safe.
@nobodyisname Clubbin thats a good one...lol The stamp is from the wrecking yard.I think my next video will be how to check a 98-02 Saturn range switch.
Thanks for the detailed vid's. You do a great service to the remaining saturn owners.
Do you just go to the junkyard to do videos or are you actually fixing these parts?
I go every now and then to explore other saturns just to see what they look like inside or get an idea of how difficult something is on my actual car.
If I was to take it to a mechanic, how long should I expect the whole job to take? Thanks...

If you guys have a hard time finding a 5.5mm nut driver, try looking at a RC hobby shop, they usually have those smaller sizes.
Also, 7/32 is the standard equivalent.

This looks about as friendly as changing a coolant temp sensor on a vw passat.

I think Rich has now shown us everything on a saturn s-series but the inside of the gas tank.... hmmm, I think I know what the next video might be.

crystalscan2002 1 year ago
@crystalscan2002 It did not look like it was in an accident so it must have been a mechanical issue.
