Thank you so much. VERY informative and not a waste of time at all! You teach very well.. and have some nice analogies to gather this info accordingly. Looking forward to the next videos.
im no pa expert, actually iv never set up a passive pa system. but i did take a live audio corse in college. i specifically remember our class lecturer (who was a live engineer working with EV) that u should always have your gain to 0 on the amps in the gain structure of your setup. and speakers should always have a higher rating than the speakers. this way you get maximum output of your amps with no discoloration and dont blow your speakers.
I have the new crown xls series, if i were to run 2 8 ohm speakers per side, but i run them one out of the banana plugs, and the other out of the neutrik, would it bring it down to 4 ohms per side?
Always match your amps ( choice amp) TO YOUR SPEAKERS, you can always go higher, (run an 16 ohm speaker on an 8 ohm load) going the other way is deadly.
2 (8 ohm)speakers in series result in a 16 ohm load, 2 (8 ohm) speakers in Parallel result in a 4 ohm load, 4 (8ohm) in series/Parallel results in 8ohm.
You've got your numbers correct, but any time you start playing with ohm ratings different than what the amp is designed for, you risk damaging both the speaker and the amp. Trying to get an amp to push a 16 ohm load is working your amp WAY too hard if it's only rated for 8 ohm.
i have an ibanez toneblaster150 with 2 8 ohm ports. and i have a 4 and 16 ohm plugin on my speakers. does it matter which i plug it in? or do i need to get a speaker with an 8 ohm plugin?
I really have been having trouble with this kind of stuff as I am looking to buy speakers and an amp to use with my band for little gigs, band practise and stuff like that. I have a mixer that I bought used&cheap from some guy, its a Behringer Eurorack ub2442fx pro.
Now, what I'm thinking about is having 4 speakers and 2 or 3 stage monitors, but I'm confused about 1) what kind of a amp would be good for that and 2) How I would connect all this together.
Thanks so much for the info, Brian! I love the ohms explanation and the configuration examples. I signed up just so I could let you know how helpful this was. THANKS A BUNCH!
Peak power is for small bursts of power. its possible to send 1000w trought the speaker for arround 3-5 seconds. It depends on your speaker. at some speakers the peak power i calculated to the max power that is posbile to send trought the speaker for 5 minutes.

No setting up speakers in serie will increase resistance and thus decreasing the outputpower.
The gain factor you have to compensate is +3dB. And now the total output power is the same for left and right.
But hooking up speakers in serie is kind of a sin. This is because the internal filters get fucked and the speakers can influence each other if they get out of phase.
hey question, i have a pa speaker at 800watts and an amp at recommend wattage but i only have one of the speakers. the speaker runs at 8 ohms can i hookup the one speaker at 8 ohms and able to play music out of it without hurting the speaker?
hey question, i'm getting peavey SP6's, 1000w RMS, 4 ohms. but i can't afford a 2000w per side amp (program rating) just yet. I can however afford a QSC GX5 that is rated at around 700w per side at 4 ohms. if i don't push the volume to the point where the amp is clipping is it safe to use this amp?
Have subs rated at 300W rms @4ohms and tops rated the same. Guessing i need two amps to power subs and tops seperately? Would this also mean i need a crossover or is there any other way of running into two amps from one mixer?
i thought that when you chain the speakers together like 2 - 8 ohm speakers that you would be running 16 ohms total on that channel? My problem right now is that im using a emx5000 12 channel powered board and with 1000wts at 8 ohms and i'd like to use it to push 2 pr18b PAS 18" subs which are4ohms ea. i think that if i use the mono bridged feature on the board that i could get away with running them parallel and the board would stil be pushing out 1000 watts@8ohms. AM I WRONG? someone polease!
okay i have 3 questions...what does spl mean? whats does db stand for and what does it mean to me? and can you mix different ohm speakers? -thank you eric
spl means sound pressure level that is technically how loud the speakers will go, db stands for decibels, decibels are the figure we use to messure sound volume, the higher the sound in db the louder the volume. and yes you can mix speakers with different ohms i often run 1 4ohm cabinet and 1 8ohm cabinet per side, it dips my amp down to 2.66 ohms but it can handle that. max db spl to you meens how loud the speakers in question will go, the higher the rating the louder!
hey brian, ihave a xti2000 and want to use one side for my low(PV SP118 Passive 8 ohms 2400 w capacity). will it be able to handle the PV, and if it does will the other side handle my 2 tops(JBL JRX 125). HELP!!!
Really good info, Brian. My band just purchased a pair of JRX 115's for our vocals. We got a Behringer PMP3000 powered mixer to run them. The mixer is rated at 1,200 watts peak. The speakers get pretty loud, but there's definitely room. Also, we can't seem to run monitors with our current set-up. Does it seem like we need a power amp? If so, any recommendations?
hey man i also have the Behringer PMP3000 and im running 2 peavy pv115's,except i know close to nothing about "how to p.a.",think you could tell me what to plug into where? thanks
I digg all of this, but i don't understand what is the diference between 2, 4 and 8 omhs? Better sound quality, lower/higher power consumation? Why are they important?
It's important so you don't fry your system. You need to know what your speaker impedence is (4 ohms, 8 ohms, etc) when selecting an amp, or vice versa. You need to know what impedence your amp is stable at.
If you put a 2 ohm load on an amp that's only stable at 4 ohms, it'll eventually overheat, distort, and destroy it.
The amps I'm familiar with (Crown and other reputable companies known for quality amps) are usually stable, in stereo at 8 & 4 ohms. Ideally, I like to run my top cabs at 8 ohms. It's clean power that dosen't overwork the amp.
For subs, I like to use good amps that are stable at 4 ohms bridge mono.
in these examples, 8 ohms gives you clean clear power without working your amp too hard. 4 ohms gives you more power, but it's often not as clean and makes your amp work harder
Good job man. I already knew everything spoken about here because of experience. But you have a good way of explaining it clearly and simply for someone who may be new to the audio world. great video.
so if you put two 8 ohm speakers in parallel on one channel, it would put out the rated watts at 4 ohms.. and leave oyu with another channel for a subwoofer? feedback plz
In theory, yes. Usually, it's a good idea to either run an amp mono or stereo. To put two different loads on each channel of your amp is probably not a good idea
hmm well, I think I know what you mean. You mean if both sides are 4 ohms is that cool.
I STILL do not recomend splitting an amp's duties. Use an amp for a sub and another amp for your top cabs. This is the best way to avoid blowing shit up
DUDE!!!!...i was thinking the same thing...i was gonna put my mackie S225's in my nissan armada....and power them with a 3500 watt pyramid amp that i got at a garage sale....but i would have had to put down my seats to fit the seakers and i figured it was a redneck idea...lol....but now im def. gonna try it :)
I just want to say 'props' to briansredd for carrying those cabinets to every gig..i just got a pair of the jrx 115's, and i have to say they don't look like much on the videos, but these things are massive for a 2-way cab. Heavy too!!!...I don't have sub cabs now, so i just put them on a stand, and they get pretty heavy.
p.s: I'll be doing the horn driver update pretty soon...I'll do a log on that.
Also, when possible, try to run only one speaker per channel. This may require more amps, but think of it this way: if you put two 8ohm speakers in parallel on one channel (so you're now at 4 ohms), and one of those speakers gets disconnected or blows, the impedance on that entire channel changes and you could potentially damage your amp or your other speaker.
If you just had one speaker on that channel and it blew, you don't have to worry about overpowering any other speakers on the line.
BTW everyone, try to avoid running an amp at 2 ohms. While they might be designed to handle it, there is so much done to the signal that it may not be as rich. Running at 4 or 8 ohms is best.
Thanks for the reply, I have a Crate DPS+ 8 channel powered mixer. It has two internal amps that each power two channels for speakers. Here's a blurb from the manual "The jacks
are wired together in parallel. The internal amplifier of the PCM+ Series can
deliver its full power output into as little as 2 ohms. "
Good video, thanks! Ok, here is one, I have an amp that has two outputs per channel and it said that the outputs are wired in parallel. Does that mean if I have two 8 ohms speakers hookup up to that one channel that I am pushing 4 ohms?
"Good video, thanks! Ok, here is one, I have an amp that has two outputs per channel and it said that the outputs are wired in parallel. Does that mean if I have two 8 ohms speakers hookup up to that one channel that I am pushing 4 ohms?"
I can say with 99% confidence that yes, you will be doing 4 ohms when connecting two 8-ohms to both outs of a single channel.
The PEAK power rating is important for sudden quick transients that could make their way to the speaker by mistake.
Eg: If you drop a mic. The loud THUD like sound will get AMPLIFIED. This is the sudden "outburst" that the speaker should be able to withstand. The higher the rating the better.
There is NO WAY the said speaker can handle 1000watts for more than 1sec.
I could give an example but im jus gettin to my character limit.
I just looked at the specs. It says 300 watts peak. RMS is rated at 150 watts. RMS is similar to Program (not exacally the same, still trying to get my head around it all myself). You could probably get away with an amp that produces 200 watts per side @ 8 ohms and be just fine. The good news is that low wattage output amps are not very expensive. On the used market, you're probably well under $200
Well, like I said in the video, "Peak Power" isn't a spec that means much to us. You need to figure out PROGRAM or CONTINUOUS to get a real world power handling number. THen you can choose your amp.
then yes, that will work just fine. You will have more power than you need (you only need 250 watts each for your JBL speakers and your amp delivers 500 watts per side @ 8 ohms) so make sure you do not turn your amp up all the way or you'll blow up your speakers
could some assist me for a gig i plan to use 2 technic speakers running at 8ohms each at 260 watts using binding post and one harbinger speaker going at 600watts and 4ohms using a speakon connector also using a mackie 2500 amplifier is that recomended
you are asking if you can run all 3 off of the mackie fr2500?
the connectors you mention don't really matter as long as you have the positive to red and the negative to black, and the speakon is wired correctly(if you bought the cable, assume it is).
It is fine for that amp to run an 8 ohm load in one side and a combo 4 and 8 ohm on the other. Just adjust your amps gains to get the levels even for however you want it to sound.
Keep it a couple of led's lower than the red led on the amp.
It's going to depend on the amp. It's probably not a good idea because you will be dipping the amp down pretty far. You'd have to have a VERY stable amp to do this
I will make a video on this tomorow, but google in the meantime for a diagram.
Assuming parallel full range drivers - the math should come out - (8 + 4 / 2) / 2 (average of drivers divided by number of drivers)
The amp will see around 3 ohms (see manual) - think of brians (small) hose, you are basically using two hoses here, reducing the overall resistance to flow.
I would be safe and wire the set in series, if you don't have the manual handy.
Yeah, and just think it only took 1 year, 3 months, over 350 videos, and about 4-6 hours a day answering tech questions often times on gear I don't even own. HA!
use one of those connection ports to connect to your amp and the other connection port to connect to another speaker cabinet,(only if both cabinets say 8 ohms) this would bring you to a 4 ohm load and if your labels say 4 ohms do not connect another speaker cabinet because this would then drop you down to 2 ohms and alot of amps can't handle it.
hey great job brian, here's the deal guys every speaker cabinet should have a label on the back were you would plug ur speaker wire and this label either says 8ohms or 4ohms and should have two holes in the back for connection, (continued-)
hey brian this video helped me alot i had a amp that was alittle old but i had it for years and when i did this gig for my brothers middle school dance i had 4 8 ohm speakers in to a 150w luxman lv-111 amp i had this amp seance 01 it did me good for years but last mounth while i was doing the gig my amp got real hot (we evan had a fan blowing it) and quit on me i had the speakers and some lights hooked in to the amp annd i had the vol up over 50% well it got cooked but the school had 1 for me
Yeah I think a lot of people have a tough time with this stuff (including myself sometimes). Just from the comments on this video, I can see that I need to do some research & do more videos on the subject.
This is going to depend on what speakers you have and of course, weather or not the amp is going to have enough juice to do this and if it's stable at the ohms impedence the speakers are going to demand from it.
No matter how many time people have tried to explain ohms to me I just never really understand. It's like high school all over again! I wish everything could just be explained with magic.
Bridge Mono is the Total Sum of the amp. For Example my AB Intentional 900A puts out 1125 @ 4 Ohms Bridged Mono. The amp puts out a total of 1125 by putting the Positive terminal on side of channel 1 and Negative on Channel 2 so you get 2 amps operating for one.... I hope that helps.... Spynn
*Applause* Great metaphors and diagrams! My dad really didn't understand why I want a more powerful amp then my speakers I am getting and he gets it now. Thanks man!
You know whats a good speaker system, the B-52 Matrix V2 powered speaker/sub setup. They had one setup at the local Guitar Center, and all you have to do is plug 'em in, crank everything to 11 and in the time you plug 'em in and make you ears bleed, you wont have to worry about neighbors for 2 miles cause im sure that they would move...
Powered speakers sound very intiresting to me. However, you get a lot more versatility out of an amp/speaker system. If you buy the right stuff, you can double your sound & power just by adding another set of speakers (which are usually a lot cheaper than powered speakers). On a powered system, this would be very expensive.
Tell you what. Tell me what you want to do as far as how you plan on using the DJ system, how many people you plan on playing for, and what your budget is and I'll try to put together something that will work for you
brian nice video,, i have all my gear. lights scratch live and outher stuff.... the last thing i need and cant decide what to get. its down to two brands .... what brand is best JBL EON POWERD OR MACKIE POWERD SPEAKERS
Misnersha, I have used both and if you have the cash go with Mackie, Both are good but you don't want a Plastic Cab, They don't resinate very well plus you can hear the thing vibrating at the high volumes...
Personaly, I've heard that the EON Gen 2 are very good. The trouble I've heard some Mackie owners have had is that if you need service for them, they get shipped to Korea or someplace over there. JBL get serviced right here in the states.
Peak is the Max For 1 tenth of a second Brian just for a head's up. That number should be ignored like you said. I use peavey myself and i have always used RMS or Continous. What is that you ask. RMS is Normal play volume and Continous is what is should play at all the time. IE I have a SP2 TI the horn max's out 175 but i use an amp at 125 @ 8 Ohms, 15" woofer handles 600 watts RMS or 1,000 watts Continous I have an amp that runs at 500 watts a little under powered but that is my Midrange. SPYNN
hey brian i have a pretty much crappy amp i bought from radio shack ... it was a good amo when i first bought it but at a gig it sounds like its getting quieter** any help?
i might just get two amps (one for loudspeakers and one for subs)but what do you think i should do?
hmm well it may be time for a new PA for sure. Sounds like you want to go with a bi amp system with an active crossover. There are a lot of options out there depending on your budget and what you want to achieve. Are you going to use your exsting speakers? If so, what are they?
well my budget really doesnt matter cause i will get the money back from djing but i have 2 visosonix** loudsppeakers 440 watts and my custom made subs and box .. i made the boxes for them ..(i make all my racks and stuff)i thinkk the subs are 800 watts
haha srry i get off track but i got a new amp .. qsc rmx 50-50.. its a great amp...
lol but do you think you can make a tutor vid about how to rack your equpiment like where you should put the mixer and stuff .. i kno how to do it but alot of peopla are asking me on myspace how to do it ... and do you have any equipment for sale?
i have a question, it may be dumb to some, but im not 100% if it is really all that dumb. -Q. As u know I have been looking at speakers for some time, I have noticed some have wire feeds and RCA, So have RCA and XLR, at the end of the day, Which is better to invest in? Does it even matter wire feed, rca ect.. -- Great Vid Bri.. the bit on ohms was great!
What are these leads running to? Most people agree that XLR cables going from your mixer to your amp is going to give you the best signal and even a bit of a boost compaired to 1/4" or RCA connections.
So I just got a pair of The JBL JRX 115's and Im running them off of a 2 Channel 1450 Watt QSC Amp. The thing is, it doesn't sound like I'm getting the quality I should be. It often looks it's clipping and certain songs I play it seems like the sound will transfer from one side to the other, it's kind of weird. Where should each channel knob be set at and what about the switches on the back, , ,Any Thoughts. . .Thanks!
You should have a look at your amp specs. Much like in the video above, there are different wattage ratings depending on what inpedence your speakers are (8 ohms, 4 ohms, etc).
Your amp runs between 260-280 watts per channel at 8 ohms, which is what's happening when you run your JRX115 in stereo. The amp is pretty much running at it's maximum physical limit. THis is why it clips sometimes and probably dosen't sound great.
Like I said in the video, it's probably a good idea to get an amp that gives you a good % more power than you need. The Crown XLS 602 works great for my speakers (which are just like yours). You'll get an additional 130 watts per side @ 8 ohms.
There are also other variables to get good sound. Your mixer settings are VERY important. Did you see my MIXER SETTINGS video I put up about a month ago?

hi brian,
i have got 2 subs @ 4ohms 450 rms
2 15" cab drivers(horn + 15" bass driver) @ 8 ohms 250rms and a amp 650 @ 8 ohm 800 rms each side...
my question is can i put 1 cab on to 1 sub on to 1 channel of the amp?
jameswcrofts 2 years ago
Alright. So can I run a 4 ohm amp into a 16 ohm cabinet? The head runs 100 watts @ 4 ohms, and the Cab is I believe 300 or 400 watts @ 16 ohms.

For subs, I like to use good amps that are stable at 4 ohms bridge mono.
in these examples, 8 ohms gives you clean clear power without working your amp too hard. 4 ohms gives you more power, but it's often not as clean and makes your amp work harder
briansredd 3 years ago
Good job man. I already knew everything spoken about here because of experience. But you have a good way of explaining it clearly and simply for someone who may be new to the audio world. great video.

so if you put two 8 ohm speakers in parallel on one channel, it would put out the rated watts at 4 ohms.. and leave oyu with another channel for a subwoofer? feedback plz
kuttinheadz 3 years ago
In theory, yes. Usually, it's a good idea to either run an amp mono or stereo. To put two different loads on each channel of your amp is probably not a good idea
briansredd 3 years ago
what if it was a 4 ohm sub.. then would it work?
kuttinheadz 3 years ago
Would what work?
briansredd 3 years ago
hmm well, I think I know what you mean. You mean if both sides are 4 ohms is that cool.
I STILL do not recomend splitting an amp's duties. Use an amp for a sub and another amp for your top cabs. This is the best way to avoid blowing shit up
briansredd 3 years ago
oh okay, i get where your coming from. thanks.

i have the jbl jrx 125's which is the dual 15 cabinets, I put them in my hyundai elantra sedan. They sound pretty good, but yeah heavy. Great videos.
charronthomas 3 years ago
DUDE!!!!...i was thinking the same thing...i was gonna put my mackie S225's in my nissan armada....and power them with a 3500 watt pyramid amp that i got at a garage sale....but i would have had to put down my seats to fit the seakers and i figured it was a redneck idea...lol....but now im def. gonna try it :)
sikhbeatz518 3 years ago
I just want to say 'props' to briansredd for carrying those cabinets to every gig..i just got a pair of the jrx 115's, and i have to say they don't look like much on the videos, but these things are massive for a 2-way cab. Heavy too!!!...I don't have sub cabs now, so i just put them on a stand, and they get pretty heavy.
p.s: I'll be doing the horn driver update pretty soon...I'll do a log on that.

hey i want to get (4) 8 Ohm @ 500 watt
subs. what and how many amps should i get!!!
DjCalifero 3 years ago
1 amp stable at 4ohms perside @ 1500watts per side
or
2 amps stable at 4ohms bridge each rated at 1500watts.
robjcrowston 2 years ago
Somone please answer: 4 ohms better than 8? By better i mean, louder?
nofx221984 3 years ago
No, it's not any louder
briansredd 3 years ago
Also, when possible, try to run only one speaker per channel. This may require more amps, but think of it this way: if you put two 8ohm speakers in parallel on one channel (so you're now at 4 ohms), and one of those speakers gets disconnected or blows, the impedance on that entire channel changes and you could potentially damage your amp or your other speaker.
If you just had one speaker on that channel and it blew, you don't have to worry about overpowering any other speakers on the line.
djfrayz 3 years ago
BTW everyone, try to avoid running an amp at 2 ohms. While they might be designed to handle it, there is so much done to the signal that it may not be as rich. Running at 4 or 8 ohms is best.
djfrayz 3 years ago 2
Thanks for the reply, I have a Crate DPS+ 8 channel powered mixer. It has two internal amps that each power two channels for speakers. Here's a blurb from the manual "The jacks
are wired together in parallel. The internal amplifier of the PCM+ Series can
deliver its full power output into as little as 2 ohms. "
Olivsam 3 years ago
Good video, thanks! Ok, here is one, I have an amp that has two outputs per channel and it said that the outputs are wired in parallel. Does that mean if I have two 8 ohms speakers hookup up to that one channel that I am pushing 4 ohms?
Olivsam 3 years ago
What amp do you have? let me have a look at the specs before I say anything
briansredd 3 years ago
"Good video, thanks! Ok, here is one, I have an amp that has two outputs per channel and it said that the outputs are wired in parallel. Does that mean if I have two 8 ohms speakers hookup up to that one channel that I am pushing 4 ohms?"
I can say with 99% confidence that yes, you will be doing 4 ohms when connecting two 8-ohms to both outs of a single channel.
djfrayz 3 years ago
The PEAK power rating is important for sudden quick transients that could make their way to the speaker by mistake.
Eg: If you drop a mic. The loud THUD like sound will get AMPLIFIED. This is the sudden "outburst" that the speaker should be able to withstand. The higher the rating the better.
There is NO WAY the said speaker can handle 1000watts for more than 1sec.
I could give an example but im jus gettin to my character limit.
JIMMYBLANKS 3 years ago
i been learning in your videos and i appreciate that... quick question
if i have an 8ohm/4ohm/2ohm amplifier program
8ohm + 8ohm speaker produce 4ohm out right
but what about these parallel setup?
8ohm + 8ohm + 8ohm speaker is = ???
8ohm + 8ohm + 8ohm + 8ohm speaker = ???
hope you can help me on these i already do the math but im not confident with my answer
do you think i can parallel 4x8ohms speaker on a single channel for my mid and highs to my 2ohm-8ohm power amp?

Well, the specs I looked at said 300 peak. It dosen't really matter because that's a number that is only used in fantasyland.
briansredd 3 years ago
I just looked at the specs. It says 300 watts peak. RMS is rated at 150 watts. RMS is similar to Program (not exacally the same, still trying to get my head around it all myself). You could probably get away with an amp that produces 200 watts per side @ 8 ohms and be just fine. The good news is that low wattage output amps are not very expensive. On the used market, you're probably well under $200
briansredd 3 years ago
Well, like I said in the video, "Peak Power" isn't a spec that means much to us. You need to figure out PROGRAM or CONTINUOUS to get a real world power handling number. THen you can choose your amp.
briansredd 3 years ago
ok now, i have a 1500 amp and i have the jbl jrx115 do you think that's a good audio system?
Thanks!!!!!!!
Clageoteoti 3 years ago
what's a 1500 amp?
briansredd 3 years ago
oops i'm sorry i ment a 1500 watts amp
Clageoteoti 3 years ago
1500 watts at what ohms? Is this bridge mono or stereo? What kind of amp is it? Did you even watch the video?
briansredd 3 years ago
yes i watched the video its an american audio VLP AMPLIFIER 750W RMS PER channel at 4 ohms and 500w rms per channel @ 8 ohms
Clageoteoti 3 years ago
then yes, that will work just fine. You will have more power than you need (you only need 250 watts each for your JBL speakers and your amp delivers 500 watts per side @ 8 ohms) so make sure you do not turn your amp up all the way or you'll blow up your speakers
briansredd 3 years ago
thanks my first gig it's this saturday i'm gonna use them for the first time that;s why i asked you . thanks brian!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clageoteoti 3 years ago

briansredd 3 years ago
could some assist me for a gig i plan to use 2 technic speakers running at 8ohms each at 260 watts using binding post and one harbinger speaker going at 600watts and 4ohms using a speakon connector also using a mackie 2500 amplifier is that recomended
Djsilentblaze 4 years ago
you are asking if you can run all 3 off of the mackie fr2500?
the connectors you mention don't really matter as long as you have the positive to red and the negative to black, and the speakon is wired correctly(if you bought the cable, assume it is).
It is fine for that amp to run an 8 ohm load in one side and a combo 4 and 8 ohm on the other. Just adjust your amps gains to get the levels even for however you want it to sound.
Keep it a couple of led's lower than the red led on the amp.

briansredd 4 years ago
Hey, quick question here....can you hook up a set of 8 ohm and a set of 4 ohm speakers to the same amp?
Thanks
djmike76710 4 years ago
It's going to depend on the amp. It's probably not a good idea because you will be dipping the amp down pretty far. You'd have to have a VERY stable amp to do this
briansredd 4 years ago
Depends on series / or parallel connection.
I would be safe and wire the set in series, if you don't have the manual handy.
petermichaelw 4 years ago
Before I post my video follow up here, I must correct the above equation, before someone else does... :) long day :(
Parallel load calc here is (8X4)/(8+4) so really 2.6666666. (product of drivers divided by sum)
But the silly thing is the speaker will usually never be a true exact 4 or 8 ohms, so this is not an exacting science.

texs2007 4 years ago
use one of those connection ports to connect to your amp and the other connection port to connect to another speaker cabinet,(only if both cabinets say 8 ohms) this would bring you to a 4 ohm load and if your labels say 4 ohms do not connect another speaker cabinet because this would then drop you down to 2 ohms and alot of amps can't handle it.
djshaw01 4 years ago
hey great job brian, here's the deal guys every speaker cabinet should have a label on the back were you would plug ur speaker wire and this label either says 8ohms or 4ohms and should have two holes in the back for connection, (continued-)
djshaw01 4 years ago
I plan on using them for gigs up to 250-300 people,my budget would be around 800 to 1200 euro, what would you put together?

hey brian this video helped me alot i had a amp that was alittle old but i had it for years and when i did this gig for my brothers middle school dance i had 4 8 ohm speakers in to a 150w luxman lv-111 amp i had this amp seance 01 it did me good for years but last mounth while i was doing the gig my amp got real hot (we evan had a fan blowing it) and quit on me i had the speakers and some lights hooked in to the amp annd i had the vol up over 50% well it got cooked but the school had 1 for me
sicknessmix 4 years ago
Yeah I think a lot of people have a tough time with this stuff (including myself sometimes). Just from the comments on this video, I can see that I need to do some research & do more videos on the subject.
briansredd 4 years ago
What middle school? Dennis? My Grandmother, Mother, Brother, Sisters, and my nephews went there.
briansredd 4 years ago
haha i went to dennis but no it the Eaton middle school
sicknessmix 4 years ago
This is going to depend on what speakers you have and of course, weather or not the amp is going to have enough juice to do this and if it's stable at the ohms impedence the speakers are going to demand from it.

What is briged mono whatever it is.....Brian help me please!!
DJSmugg 4 years ago
Bridge Mono is the Total Sum of the amp. For Example my AB Intentional 900A puts out 1125 @ 4 Ohms Bridged Mono. The amp puts out a total of 1125 by putting the Positive terminal on side of channel 1 and Negative on Channel 2 so you get 2 amps operating for one.... I hope that helps.... Spynn

Great video Brian,
You know whats a good speaker system, the B-52 Matrix V2 powered speaker/sub setup. They had one setup at the local Guitar Center, and all you have to do is plug 'em in, crank everything to 11 and in the time you plug 'em in and make you ears bleed, you wont have to worry about neighbors for 2 miles cause im sure that they would move...

DJMGM88 4 years ago
Powered speakers sound very intiresting to me. However, you get a lot more versatility out of an amp/speaker system. If you buy the right stuff, you can double your sound & power just by adding another set of speakers (which are usually a lot cheaper than powered speakers). On a powered system, this would be very expensive.
briansredd 4 years ago
Very true, there are alot of things you can do to an amp/speaker combo than a pre-made powered system, like add on without compromise...
DJMGM88 4 years ago
well brian lets say 4 ohm then?

brian nice video,, i have all my gear. lights scratch live and outher stuff.... the last thing i need and cant decide what to get. its down to two brands .... what brand is best JBL EON POWERD OR MACKIE POWERD SPEAKERS
misnersha 4 years ago
Misnersha, I have used both and if you have the cash go with Mackie, Both are good but you don't want a Plastic Cab, They don't resinate very well plus you can hear the thing vibrating at the high volumes...
djspynn 4 years ago
Personaly, I've heard that the EON Gen 2 are very good. The trouble I've heard some Mackie owners have had is that if you need service for them, they get shipped to Korea or someplace over there. JBL get serviced right here in the states.
briansredd 4 years ago
Peak is the Max For 1 tenth of a second Brian just for a head's up. That number should be ignored like you said. I use peavey myself and i have always used RMS or Continous. What is that you ask. RMS is Normal play volume and Continous is what is should play at all the time. IE I have a SP2 TI the horn max's out 175 but i use an amp at 125 @ 8 Ohms, 15" woofer handles 600 watts RMS or 1,000 watts Continous I have an amp that runs at 500 watts a little under powered but that is my Midrange. i just have another question what power conditioner do? does it affects the sounds i just dont have an idea thanks
ernie 4 years ago
Well, that's another video. I was suppose to attend a simenar on that very subject tomorrow night, but I just booked a last minute gig.
Basicaly, power conditioners help you a few ways. They help prevent power spikes & help distribute the right ammount of power to each appliance.

hey brian i have a pretty much crappy amp i bought from radio shack ... it was a good amo when i first bought it but at a gig it sounds like its getting quieter** any help?
i might just get two amps (one for loudspeakers and one for subs)but what do you think i should do?
ncxdj 4 years ago
hmm well it may be time for a new PA for sure. Sounds like you want to go with a bi amp system with an active crossover. There are a lot of options out there depending on your budget and what you want to achieve. Are you going to use your exsting speakers? If so, what are they?

i have a question, it may be dumb to some, but im not 100% if it is really all that dumb. -Q. As u know I have been looking at speakers for some time, I have noticed some have wire feeds and RCA, So have RCA and XLR, at the end of the day, Which is better to invest in? Does it even matter wire feed, rca ect.. -- Great Vid Bri.. the bit on ohms was great!
twrea 4 years ago
What are these leads running to? Most people agree that XLR cables going from your mixer to your amp is going to give you the best signal and even a bit of a boost compaired to 1/4" or RCA connections.
briansredd 4 years ago
So I just got a pair of The JBL JRX 115's and Im running them off of a 2 Channel 1450 Watt QSC Amp. The thing is, it doesn't sound like I'm getting the quality I should be. It often looks it's clipping and certain songs I play it seems like the sound will transfer from one side to the other, it's kind of weird. Where should each channel knob be set at and what about the switches on the back, , ,Any Thoughts. . .Thanks!
mamantas 4 years ago
What QSC amp do you have (model number)?
briansredd 4 years ago
It's The QSC RMX 1450. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
mamantas 4 years ago
You should have a look at your amp specs. Much like in the video above, there are different wattage ratings depending on what inpedence your speakers are (8 ohms, 4 ohms, etc).
Your amp runs between 260-280 watts per channel at 8 ohms, which is what's happening when you run your JRX115 in stereo. The amp is pretty much running at it's maximum physical limit. THis is why it clips sometimes and probably dosen't sound great.
briansredd 4 years ago
So are you saying I should make some adjustments or Do I need to look for a new amp. What do you suggest? I just want to get a really good sound.
mamantas 4 years ago
Like I said in the video, it's probably a good idea to get an amp that gives you a good % more power than you need. The Crown XLS 602 works great for my speakers (which are just like yours). You'll get an additional 130 watts per side @ 8 ohms.
There are also other variables to get good sound. Your mixer settings are VERY important. Did you see my MIXER SETTINGS video I put up about a month ago?
briansredd 4 years ago
