@Bladerunner55217 Yes,boxing is not run as a sport with the amateur and school programmes non existant globally, too many belts and organisations and dubious promoters..MMA has done the opposite and the UFC collective focus is scary-their world is moving so fast with a constant stream of new champions, skills and developments plus being maybe the most fancentric sport on earth with extensive, mutli media outreach as well as some of the most accessible athletes on earth-boxing take note!
Boxing is no threat to MMA.The biggest threat to boxing and many other sports worldwide is soccer-for some reason the passion and hysteria for soccer is unmatched-people give their lives for this sport.i attended a world cup match last year and its like religious devotion.Boca Juniors used to play in front of 150000 at times!Part of it is due to media hype where tv and papers which afford more column inches/time to soccer.Boxing and other sports are left in the dark.
@layyah0905 The biggest threat to boxing is boxing. Aka the ones governing boxing. But I still love boxing to the fullest and stay away from watching hbo boxing and dela hoya's mexican against very bad mexican bouts lol.
@chuck2112ify: Hes talking about Mike Tyson & the guy (the basketball guy mentioned) who fought Lennox & started to cry & wouldnt fight, he started crying in his corner & refused to fight Lewis. He's not talking about MMA would bite, he's saying Toney might bite or cry after he gets a taste of MMA!!! Thats what I got from it anyway!
i do like watching them while running in the gym, but only up to the point where ppl don't ask me such a silly question as "which do u think is stronger, boxing or mma?" again, what's the point? i don't really get why we should even compare to decide which is stronger. i'd rather respect them both and enjoy as they are. i box becoz i personally am so much attracted to it, and if u r so much into mma, i still respect ur preference.
Why should mma fighters go into boxing to prove something? When you have 2 people with different skills the only way 2 prove which is more effective is to go into an arena with limited rules so both fighters can use what they know.Mma is that arena...
@emperor2017 mma isn't that arena. mma clearly has its own rules whereby mma fighters feel more comfortable and boxing has its own rules. setting up boxers with mma fighters under mma rules isn't the way to test boxers. it's like setting up a judo guy with a wrestler under the wrestling rules and tell him to prove himself. there is no way to prove which is more effective. as unfair as is to ask mma guys to go into boxing, boxers going into mma fights can't avoid being judged on a wrong ground.
@loooooojason The Octagon is the best proving ground for a pure fighter compared to boxing which limits (basically handicaps) all fighters. As far as combative sports goes the best fighters are MMA fighters, the objective is to learn everything so you can implement your game plan. Boxers have gotten annihilated in K-1 for decades, MMA has many successful K-1 crossovers because they are better natural fighters than boxers. Boxing is important, especially against a wrestler that can't keep u down.
@Immortalsyn83 they had successful crossovers becoz the rules r much more similar to theirs than to boxing. again, they are just different sports. i've tried kickboxing many years ago and changed to boxing quickly for it being more dynamic. combining punches and kicks brings out a whole different set of strategies, so setting them up with boxers under boxing rules clearly is huge disadvantage to kickboxers, so is vice versa.
@Immortalsyn83 boxing specializes only in punching, which may be deemed as limited to someone like urself, but that's what makes it most efficient for punching. so kickboxers/mma fighters can hardly catch boxers in the boxing ring, and it's not surprising that boxers can hardly win other fighters in other rings or octagon either. ur argument that the octagon is where all fighters should be to prove themselves is hence misleading.
@loooooojason If boxers face any fighter that also has the ability to box & throw hard kicks much like Overeem that boxer won't be standing very long. Mercer lasted only 22 seconds against Bonjasky in K-1. There aren't any pure boxers in the top 10 of any combative sport other than boxing. Boxers lack necessary skills to last in a full body combative sport. I am not saying a boxer can't ever be a great fighter, they will never advance in a full body combat sport off their boxing skills alone.
@Immortalsyn83 mma fighters don't have the same boxing skills as boxers. they r much slower in speed but tend to be heavy on each single punch becoz they are conditioned for mma rules. on the other hand, as u argued, boxers don't know how to kick and even if they could, if they can't have such a widers stance which is indeed the leverage for speed, they can't box the same way they do in the boxing ring. they will get punished on their front leg. i'm not saying boxers are better.
@Immortalsyn83 they are all just different sports under different rules, so one going over to the other doesn't mean anything. to you, maybe boxing looks just too limited since u may think mma allows all kinds of body combat, whereas someone like me wouldn't care coz i just like the dynamic speed of punches and playing chess game hitting heads.
@loooooojason Nobody short of a boxer has the same boxing skills as a boxer but a K-1 fighter knows enough to blow a boxer's off their feet in a stand up war. There are many successful K-1 crossovers in MMA that would demolish a pure boxer. MMA is a dynamic game of kinetic chess.. boxing is more like checkers. I like to see crossovers but I never expect much mostly because boxers that cross over are only looking for a paycheck. U should check out that Pat Berry vs Kongo match last night.
@Immortalsyn83 ur argument to me just sound like a meaningless debate, like "why don't badminton players cross over to tennis and dominate, if they r so fast?" as ignorant as it may sound, such an argument that boxers should go over to the octagon to prove themselves, and vice versa, has no point.
@loooooojason I agree a boxer crossing over to MMA is meaningless because boxers are far from the best fighters. They lack way too much knowledge & skills to last in a fight against a well rounded fighter.
@Immortalsyn83 u r trapped in the concept of "best fighters" and u r claiming mma fighters are those, whereas i'm saying it is not so clear-cut. mma is a sport with rules, so is boxing. only two sports with very similar rules developed in different ways are comparable in the way u'd like. boxing and mma are way too different to make such a judgement. remember: knowledge and skills are obtained under a certain set of rules. no disrespect but most boxers wouldn't care much about mma tho'.
@loooooojason There is kickboxing/k-1; Pancrase; Vale Tudo; Jujitsu; Muay Thai; Wrestling... all these are also combative sports. MMA started out being Vale Tudo with zero rules which proved to be too overwhelming to middle America so it was successfully ultimately ban from most venues until they polished the sport with safety rules. Roy Jones Jr & Zab Judah are big time MMA fans, there is know rule that says you can only be a fan of your own sport. Many MMA fighters where inspired by boxers...
@Immortalsyn83 yes no rule about one being a fan of other spoorts, and what i meant by "they wouldn't care" was that they wouldn't consider crossing over to prove themselves being better fighters. u might think they are scared, but why wouldn't they really think about crossing over if mma was the only way where every fighter should be? as u said some of them r already fans of mma. most probably they respect the way mma has been developed and practiced.
@loooooojason I doubt any boxer is scared of a fighter just like know fighter is cared of a boxer. it's just a different world as you said. To be a top boxer it's pretty much a life long devotion to that sport to succeed at the elite levels. I am fans of both sports & I know how much a boxer sacrifices to be the best of his craft. While a boxer spends all this time improving his boxing talent a fighter is perfecting his overall game which is why both are at a disadvantage in the others sport.
@Immortalsyn83 yes now we r both speaking the same language. as u said both r at a disvantage in other sports coz they are not trained that way nor are they conditioned for it. i box with kickboxers and mma fighters as long as we keep the same rule. i once tried kickboxing with one of them (since i did a kicking sport many years ago - something like TKD), but still it was just another completely different sport! it has been an interesting debate so far. peace.
mma using james toney lol toney was stalking dana white across america n talkin so much shit sayin he'll knock any1 out, n dogged mma fighters so dana said fuck it n fed him 2 the wolves. toney got wat he deserved. u cant come in mma only knowing 1 thing n expect 2 dominate. ya u can if u do wrestling or bjj but only for so long. jus like gracie. he dominated until people got better at ground, than gracie dropped low in mma radar, tried comin back n got fuckd up.
Put a boxer into the UFC and he can still use his entire skill set, so even with all of his techniques available, Toney got beat.
If you put a UFC fighter into the boxing ring, you take away many of his most devastating techniques, so the only reason a boxer would win in this instance is because it is like fighting an MMA fighter with his hands tied behind his back.
MMA evolved through trial and error, when it became obvious that a wrestler could totally dominate someone who can only punch.
@mark1983peace How can a boxer "use his entire skill set" when the MMA grappler rushes in almost immediately and grabs him?! MMA guys know they cant stand up with a boxer so they dont even try. Hardly a complete display of fighting.
Boxers dont care to learn grappling because top level pro boxers are too busy making more money than the combined salary of 3 MMA stars.
@CaucasianRaymond Its not about salary, and a boxer can use every technique he's normally allowed to use in his many years of training while in the cage. An MMA fighter taking a boxer down is not stopping the boxer using everything he learned (i.e. his entire skill set), but overcoming it using strategy and a more complete fighting system. I boxed, and I learned this the hard way, as did many others.
The ONLY boxers with this outdated attitude nowadays are the ones who never attend MMA classes
@mark1983peace i repeat how the hell does a boxer use his entire skill set when a grappler's whole gameplan is to shoot takedown quickly? The boxer doesnt have a chance to use his skill because the grappler doesnt want to stand up with the boxer for fear of gettin his head removed. . Also it is about salary. Why would an elite level boxer like Mayweather, Pacquiao or the Klitsckos take a 90% paycut to learn another pro sport? It doesnt make sense
@CaucasianRaymond Boxing rules prohibit many MMA techniques, MMA rules allow ALL boxing techniques. This is my point, a boxer is ALLOWED every move he has trained, the reason he can't get a chance to use them is because the MMA fighting system is much superior.
You were the one who brought salary into it to strengthen your weak argument, my point was only that boxers lose against MMA fighters because their system is extremely limited in comparison.
@mark1983peace Dude in 2009 washed up boxer Ray Mercer beat former UFC champ Sylvia in like 30 seconds.. Mercer was a heavyweight boxing champ in fuckin 1991. There has never been an elite pro boxer in his prime who attempt MMA so please dont act like MMA has some kind of victory over boxing. Boxers dont take time to learn other combat sports because they are too busy doing THEIR OWN sport. that has paid them millions. Understand?
@CaucasianRaymond Again you're going totally off topic. I said that MMA fighters can't use all their techniques in the ring but boxers are permitted to use all of theirs in the cage
You disagreed, this is wrong
My only point was this
I don't give a fuck how much money is involved, nothing to do with my statement. Just watched that mercer - sylvia fight, nice! I appreciate boxing, I spent 8 years learning, and practised regularly with the Antrim boxing champ, but its very limited.
@CaucasianRaymond Tim Sylvia? Anyone can knock that guy out, have Mercer fight an actual Mixed Martial Artist, I mean c'mon who has Sylvia beat? Oh yeah, no one. So, umm, yeah, for Mercer to knock an unskilled MMA fighter out than he must be good in MMA right? Nope, have him fight someone like Cain Velasuqez or someone like him, than talk.
@CaucasianRaymond Guess who beat ray mercer in an MMA match after that? KIMBO SLICE! Kimbo was even winning the stand-up portion too. Tim Sylvia isn't even in the UFC anymore, he was a "former" champ when the sport wasn't as evolved to where it is now at heavy wieght, he has no chance of becomming champ again, very little chance of fighting in the UFC ever again. Anyway its dumb to compare the sports, apples and oranges. And I agree no boxer in his prime has attempted to transition to MMA.
@CaucasianRaymond James Toney is the closest but everyone knows he is never in shape, doesnt approach it as an MMArtist but as a pure boxer which will never work. He also has the worst style of boxing for MMA and his first fight was against randy goddamn couture.
@CaucasianRaymond LOL ray mercer losing to kimbo a bum yosuke nishijima going 0-5 in mma. a prime boxer would get dominated in mma just like the opposite. james vs couture proves all
Toney's talk was only to promote the fight so his paycheck would be bigger. No one took his antics seriously except MMA fanboys. Those idiots never stopped to think that if Toney hated MMA so much why would he be there in the 1st place learning and training? Sensitive morons
And boxing fanboys were STUPID enough to think Toney would WIN by KO in the first round, and clean out the division. Thankfully I know a few who were willing to bet on that.
@chiconspiracy Name one credible boxing person (coach, fighter, former fighter, known boxing writer) who thought Toney would win? I'm a boxing fan and I certainly didnt hear of any. Were some of us rootin for James? Yes. But him actually winning wasnt a realistic outlook for any of us
@CaucasianRaymond You were talking about "MMA Fanbois" I'm just letting you know boxing "fanbois" are just as annoying, and have less to back it up. Go to any boxing forum period, and they were full of people saying how Toney would KO Couture. As annoying as they are, at least I made some money off of them.
@chiconspiracy You seem to be confusing James Toney fans with the general boxing fans. James Toney fans think that he can beat either Klitschko(current heavyweight boxing champs). Boxing fans know he'd get destroyed. Fans of a certain fighter usually arent good general boxing fans.
Really, that's why polls on boxing forums showed an overwhelming prediction that Toney would KO Couture? I made 50 bucks off two boxers from my gym, who don't even like Toney, but said "MMA guys can't punch for shit, he'll knock Randy out"
@chiconspiracy Save you rmoney winning stories dude.On the internet they are like BIGFOOTstories. I post at eastside boxing and almost (one of the biggest international boxing forums) no one picked Toney or took his venture to MMA seriously except diehard Toney fans.
Really, so ONLY James Tony fans thought James Toney would win. Out of the hundreds of threads on boxing forums out there, ONLY Tony nuts talked down about MMA, and thought any pro boxer would clean out the division.
@chiconspiracy dude you're just making up stories for the sake of arguement. Look at the video above. Toney's former boxing staff ( who were closer to Toney than any of us) is tellin everyone Toney didnt have a chance in another sport. That should speak volumes on how most general boxing fans felt. ok? bye
"if a grappler got me in a armbar i already would have put my fingers threw his left eye socket or bite a hole in his stomach while he had me in the full mount and before be threw me i would have already head butted him to the point of brain damage on his part tackle against a real boxer or kickboxer in a real fight no ufc rules ground game actually a bad idea/striking shall always be superior to wrestling when it comes to real life and death situations/ id face randy before tony in a real fight
ufc wants to tell to the public that its betters than boxing...
because peaple that dont understand about fights and sport belive this sheet
i like mma,i like boxing,i am a muay thai couch and i dont compare my art with nothing, its stupid.
what is best blue or red??,who quers,i prefer orange!
ufc is for everyone, like fast food! ufc it will have sucsess worldwide, like fast food! boxing is for those who can understand it. i prefer muay thai, but box is more dificould
@TheKruRosu No one in UFC is actually saying anything bad about boxing. Those are the retarded fanboys who can't understand that MMA and boxing can exist together.
It wasn't a real fight. It was UFC rules. It a real fight you can rip off ears, gouge eyes, and kick people in the nuts. UFC is not a real fight. It's a sport. And the rules of UFC make for a lamer fight than boxing. In boxing people must stand and fight. In UFC they roll around on each other in some sort of pseudo homoerotic bullshit. If you payed to see that UFC farce you are a freaking moron.
@dorielementary In the UFC you have to guard against more elements and it takes more skill than boxing . This is why Boxing although it takes a lot of skills but it's NOT CONSIDERED A MARTIAL ART . There more of an art to MMA fighters in the ring .
@juant25 A brawler is a boxer who lacks good footwork and mobility. They usually rely on punching power. A speed boxer would be someone that has good speed, mobility and footwork. They would rely on movement as opposed to power.
@dorielementary In boxing I see guys contantly clinching and hugging in some homoerotic way. They also hit each other with big pillows on their hands. Boxing=pillow fighting.
@juant25 just like Randy Couture got hit and hit the floor...oh wait, he took him down easily and beat the the fuck out of him...just like I would do.
@poolboyinla obviously... its a totally different sport, different rules. its apples to oranges man... a boxer inside the octagon, with mma rules, he will get destroyed. Same way a mma fighter is placed inside the ring with a boxer, boxing rules, he will in turn get destroyed. lol But ur argument is that they hit like pillows... get hit by those pillows and i guarantee you will go down. in the ring of course
@TheKruRosu Oh please. I am tired of this whole "Toney is brave because he stepped into Couture's world and now Couture should do the same" crap. Toney got into the octagon because he is a arrogant prick. He thought he could come in and beat people in MMA because of his boxing. Randy is nowhere near that arrogant. Randy knows he has respect for boxing and THAT is why he doesn't step into the ring.
it makes sense to make couture win it will shut boxing fans up however dana white will fix the fight so that toney wins this will make more proffessional boxersgo to mma thinking if toney could do it so can we it is a trick to kill boxing for good
Right treyknockout - Roach shouldn't of let dude get away with comparing Kimbo to James Toney - a true pugilist and multi-time, multi-weight world champion.
shame on this reporter for not asking informed questions who gives a flying fuck what a fat basketball player has to say about combat sports.roach sound punch drunk like a motherfucker"mma is just using james toney" thats silly toney was the one that barated and chased dana white all over the country asking for a chance to fight, and i think that basketball dude has gay desires cos he keeps saying biting in relations to mma,i have never see that in the sport of mma faggot.
@whoodkid You know there are many things going on behind the covers.. ufc might have paid Toney to do that as cover-up for they want to have him in the sport to make shit loads of money.
kimbo is no way comparable to james toney..... kimbo = slugger/street fighter! james toney = very slick boxer. not saying he will do great in the ufc but u cant compare kimbo to james toney in no way shape or fashion
@treyknockout thats hella true james toney is champ kimbo does coke and puts nobodys to sleep... I could knock out a couple of the fighters kimbo has fought lol i gotta alot of respect for james and i hope he wins
Toney is about bringing back old school values to a confused generation of people that don't know what work ethic and clarity is about. Old school is about stepping up, working hard, masculinity and the plight of the common man against adversity. All these teenagers and twenty-something confused metro-sexual kids don't know what's up. They're all confused from lack of role models and clarity of purpose. Old school is about work, the plight of the middle class, values and responsibility.
What was the point of this video? You had Freddie Roach on camera and didn't ask him anything about the Couture/Toney fight!!! I don't care what a basketball player has to say about anything. What a waste of time!
@username1273 I agree with you man. Sometimes this guy has some really dumb videos. I mean cmon yo, you have the best trainer in boxing and didnt even ask him shit. lol QUALITY OVER QUANTITY PLEASE!
James Tony Will Ko Coture But will Test Positive For anabolic steroids and Freddy Roach will have to make a 3rd apology but this time For introducing James to them when he was skinny...What do you think Ellie??
I think James Tony is going to suprise everyone with a win, especially after all that hes been talking. All it takes for Toney is one punch lets not forget that.
@zwip778 Seriously? Every thing you can do in boxing you can do in MMA. MMA is the closest thing to a "real fight" without the limitations of only using your hands. If YOU get into a street fight and the first thing the guy does is tackle you, are you going to say "WAIT!!! I'm a boxer we can only punch, lets get back up OK" Nope thats not how it works. Go to a ju-jitsu school learn why MMA fighters fight the way they do. Have your eyes opened and realize its much more than 2 guys rolling.
@JdawgMMAblog May I ask what grappling moves are banned in UFC? What strikes are banned in UFC? I think an honest analysis will show that no grappling moves are banned and yet there are a number of strikes banned. For instance, many martial arts will dictate you kick someone when they are down, or knee them when they are down. Many martial arts actually train to use the head but or gouge the eyes. Are you allowed to choke in UFC? But I never see someone strike the throat in UFC.
@immaginationkids2000 Banned grappling= Any slams that would land the person on the top of the head with the hips above the head (piledriver style) small joint mauipulation (fingers and toes). Also the throat is part of the illegal strike zones list. Again in my comment I said "closest thing to a "real fight" so yes in the street a knee or kickto a guy who is down is a great option, eye strikes and head buts are great weapons but this is the sport side of fighting.
@JdawgMMAblog Any of the techniques that are banned are regulated by athletic commisions. The fighters are doing all they can to make a living at fighting. It is assumed that in some positions in the street would be bad for you while it may be useful in the ring. It is also assumed that illigal strikes would severly injure the fighters, something the promoters don't want. Many of the banned techniques are because of fighter safety and a code of "clean fighting".
@JdawgMMAblog Good points. I learned. But I think that UFC rules unfairly favor jujitsu. I enjoyed the days of Mark Kerr when a really good wrestler did not need to learn jujitsu. Kerr would submit with the ground and pound by kneeing on the ground, up-kicking a guy when the guy's knees were on the ground, elbows and head buts. Yes, there is ground and pound now (ala Lesnor), but its not the same as when Kerr was the legend. That was when he had absolutely zero use for jujitsu.
@immaginationkids2000 The "new" rules have nothing to do with favoring one style or another. The current rules were made by the fight commission, based on descriptions of the techniques given by Big John McCarthy. The stomps, knees/kicks to a downed opponent, head buts, and 6-12 elbows were made illegal for 2 basic reasons. 1) Fighter safety and 2) the "code of clean fighting". Still the sport is called mixed martial arts, so learning as much as possible is important, why hate of BJJ?
@JdawgMMAblog True the safety of the fighters is paramount. Big John McCarthy was the right guy to consult. I guess I am starting to see the same stuff in every fight. The take down, pull guard, try to pass guard, guy on bottom brings legs to shoulder of top guy to try triangle, side mount, arm bar, bottom guy gives back, get double hooks, choke. I could NOT do what they do, but UFC is getting repetitive. That is why I miss guys who fought like Kerr on the ground.
@JdawgMMAblog on epoint worth sayin gis thatin a street fight it's rarely against 1 person so going to ground is a nightmare as your likely to be kicked from someone else. MMA cant compare to boxing- they're are two different sports.
@JdawgMMAblog This..Some people will never realize this since they are still stuck in that guard of just watching two guys punch each other for 12 plus rounds. Many people want to see a true fight where you have many weapons throughout the fight. This the evolution of combat sports, and the next generation will only watch MMA. Its already heading there. Imagine 5-10 years from now.
@zwip778 i understand where you are coming from...but those gay references are getting really old....MMA is about showing what a real fight would be like
@zwip778 see this silly misgaurded uneducated view off mma is getting old really quick. i mean if you feel it is really that simple and basic you should enter yourself into a mma competition and see how u fair or if thats too much of step enter into a muay thai comp.which is big part off mma and you will literally get the shit kicked of you after you are done find out how well you fair in wrestling comp or jui jitsu.you just sound uninformed and ignorant my manz
Be funny as fuck if Toney wupps Couture, gunna be a awful lot of humble pie getting eaten.
Also the Bob Sapp comparison I think will turn out to be laughable, Bob Sapp was just a big lump with zero stamina. James Toney has 85 pro fights under his belt, got a feeling Toney may be surprising a few people.
@LukeRock1000 It's a difficult one to predict because Toney hasn't fought once in MMA yet, if he had a few MMA fights against lesser opponents then I could make a wise prediction.
Also I have to hold into account that Toney hasn't won a meaningful boxing fight since 2003 against Holyfield ( who was shot ).
One thing is for sure, Toney ain't going to be there just to make up the numbers. So the answer to your question is.... I don't know. ha ha
Toney has defo done his hwk on Toney he is doing everything he can to win he is tranin with King Lawal to practice on his wrestiling etc he defo going in ready but he aint gona win, if he does holy shit that would be crazy, if Toney knocks out Randy that would be crazy it could happen toney has the hands to do it.
...of course there are better boxers in the boxing world than someone who trains all aspects of fighting, that's fairly obvious. However I don't think you can expect to bring one discipline into MMA and compete at a professional level. I hope Toney has done the homework to keep it a striking game... Couture's plan- Neutralise the hands! I hope it's a good fight.
Nice upload, "I'm Elie Seckbach reporting"! ahaa, love that, always keep it.
Hundreds of MuayThai fighters can beat hundreds of boxers and vice versa.
Every art has strengths and weaknesses. MMA simply throws (mostly) all the arts together. It comes down to preparation now. Boxer vs MMA can't really exist, boxing is part of MMA. If one guy is a better boxer, it's simply up to his opponent to neutralise this strength. You have to know a little(a lot!) of everything to hang in MMA.
MMA > Boxing in theory, simply because the arsenal is larger... They have better hands, take them away from them (to the floor or clinch). People saying boxers would win in MMA if they trained leg kicks and grappling for a year, then they're MMA...
Everyone knows boxers have the best hands. That's all they train though, MMA strategy simply takes hands away from a boxer. No question MMA should win every time under MMA rules. No question boxers should win every time queensbury rules.
@LukeRock1000 lol, if a boxer goes into the octagon, he's gonna work on his take down defense. and everything else too.people act like boxers to mma will keep just working on hands and nothing else.and toney is doing everything correct to come into the fight and win. sides couture is old.
@ryu1150 I think you may have misread something I wrote. I have no idea why you're writing what you are.
"he's gonna work on his take down defense. and everything else too" like I said, he's not a boxer then, he's a MMA...
I don't think Toney will have good enough wrestling though or ground game to win this fight... I don't think he's a big hitter either really is he? Also, he's pretty old too.
I don't know which people you mean, but I think we're talking about the same ones, lol
@Oreillyisthebest I don't think you can just decide to hit hard lol, Toney hasn't got much of a punch for a heavyweight, anyone can tell you that. That's why I think it favours Couture even more.
i think it was a mutual use/use relationship.

Immortalsyn83 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 they had successful crossovers becoz the rules r much more similar to theirs than to boxing. again, they are just different sports. i've tried kickboxing many years ago and changed to boxing quickly for it being more dynamic. combining punches and kicks brings out a whole different set of strategies, so setting them up with boxers under boxing rules clearly is huge disadvantage to kickboxers, so is vice versa.
loooooojason 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 boxing specializes only in punching, which may be deemed as limited to someone like urself, but that's what makes it most efficient for punching. so kickboxers/mma fighters can hardly catch boxers in the boxing ring, and it's not surprising that boxers can hardly win other fighters in other rings or octagon either. ur argument that the octagon is where all fighters should be to prove themselves is hence misleading.
loooooojason 8 months ago
@loooooojason If boxers face any fighter that also has the ability to box & throw hard kicks much like Overeem that boxer won't be standing very long. Mercer lasted only 22 seconds against Bonjasky in K-1. There aren't any pure boxers in the top 10 of any combative sport other than boxing. Boxers lack necessary skills to last in a full body combative sport. I am not saying a boxer can't ever be a great fighter, they will never advance in a full body combat sport off their boxing skills alone.
Immortalsyn83 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 mma fighters don't have the same boxing skills as boxers. they r much slower in speed but tend to be heavy on each single punch becoz they are conditioned for mma rules. on the other hand, as u argued, boxers don't know how to kick and even if they could, if they can't have such a widers stance which is indeed the leverage for speed, they can't box the same way they do in the boxing ring. they will get punished on their front leg. i'm not saying boxers are better.
loooooojason 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 they are all just different sports under different rules, so one going over to the other doesn't mean anything. to you, maybe boxing looks just too limited since u may think mma allows all kinds of body combat, whereas someone like me wouldn't care coz i just like the dynamic speed of punches and playing chess game hitting heads.
loooooojason 8 months ago
@loooooojason Nobody short of a boxer has the same boxing skills as a boxer but a K-1 fighter knows enough to blow a boxer's off their feet in a stand up war. There are many successful K-1 crossovers in MMA that would demolish a pure boxer. MMA is a dynamic game of kinetic chess.. boxing is more like checkers. I like to see crossovers but I never expect much mostly because boxers that cross over are only looking for a paycheck. U should check out that Pat Berry vs Kongo match last night.
Immortalsyn83 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 ur argument to me just sound like a meaningless debate, like "why don't badminton players cross over to tennis and dominate, if they r so fast?" as ignorant as it may sound, such an argument that boxers should go over to the octagon to prove themselves, and vice versa, has no point.
loooooojason 8 months ago
@loooooojason I agree a boxer crossing over to MMA is meaningless because boxers are far from the best fighters. They lack way too much knowledge & skills to last in a fight against a well rounded fighter.
Immortalsyn83 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 u r trapped in the concept of "best fighters" and u r claiming mma fighters are those, whereas i'm saying it is not so clear-cut. mma is a sport with rules, so is boxing. only two sports with very similar rules developed in different ways are comparable in the way u'd like. boxing and mma are way too different to make such a judgement. remember: knowledge and skills are obtained under a certain set of rules. no disrespect but most boxers wouldn't care much about mma tho'.
loooooojason 8 months ago
@loooooojason There is kickboxing/k-1; Pancrase; Vale Tudo; Jujitsu; Muay Thai; Wrestling... all these are also combative sports. MMA started out being Vale Tudo with zero rules which proved to be too overwhelming to middle America so it was successfully ultimately ban from most venues until they polished the sport with safety rules. Roy Jones Jr & Zab Judah are big time MMA fans, there is know rule that says you can only be a fan of your own sport. Many MMA fighters where inspired by boxers...
Immortalsyn83 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 yes no rule about one being a fan of other spoorts, and what i meant by "they wouldn't care" was that they wouldn't consider crossing over to prove themselves being better fighters. u might think they are scared, but why wouldn't they really think about crossing over if mma was the only way where every fighter should be? as u said some of them r already fans of mma. most probably they respect the way mma has been developed and practiced.
loooooojason 8 months ago
@loooooojason I doubt any boxer is scared of a fighter just like know fighter is cared of a boxer. it's just a different world as you said. To be a top boxer it's pretty much a life long devotion to that sport to succeed at the elite levels. I am fans of both sports & I know how much a boxer sacrifices to be the best of his craft. While a boxer spends all this time improving his boxing talent a fighter is perfecting his overall game which is why both are at a disadvantage in the others sport.
Immortalsyn83 8 months ago
@Immortalsyn83 yes now we r both speaking the same language. as u said both r at a disvantage in other sports coz they are not trained that way nor are they conditioned for it. i box with kickboxers and mma fighters as long as we keep the same rule. i once tried kickboxing with one of them (since i did a kicking sport many years ago - something like TKD), but still it was just another completely different sport! it has been an interesting debate so far. peace.

Bite a guy!?! You can't bite in MMA!
Although we all know about biting in Boxing, now don't we...I'm looking at you Tyson.
BrokenBard 1 year ago
Put a boxer into the UFC and he can still use his entire skill set, so even with all of his techniques available, Toney got beat.
If you put a UFC fighter into the boxing ring, you take away many of his most devastating techniques, so the only reason a boxer would win in this instance is because it is like fighting an MMA fighter with his hands tied behind his back.
MMA evolved through trial and error, when it became obvious that a wrestler could totally dominate someone who can only punch.
mark1983peace 1 year ago
@mark1983peace How can a boxer "use his entire skill set" when the MMA grappler rushes in almost immediately and grabs him?! MMA guys know they cant stand up with a boxer so they dont even try. Hardly a complete display of fighting.
Boxers dont care to learn grappling because top level pro boxers are too busy making more money than the combined salary of 3 MMA stars.
CaucasianRaymond 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond Its not about salary, and a boxer can use every technique he's normally allowed to use in his many years of training while in the cage. An MMA fighter taking a boxer down is not stopping the boxer using everything he learned (i.e. his entire skill set), but overcoming it using strategy and a more complete fighting system. I boxed, and I learned this the hard way, as did many others.
The ONLY boxers with this outdated attitude nowadays are the ones who never attend MMA classes
mark1983peace 1 year ago
@mark1983peace i repeat how the hell does a boxer use his entire skill set when a grappler's whole gameplan is to shoot takedown quickly? The boxer doesnt have a chance to use his skill because the grappler doesnt want to stand up with the boxer for fear of gettin his head removed. . Also it is about salary. Why would an elite level boxer like Mayweather, Pacquiao or the Klitsckos take a 90% paycut to learn another pro sport? It doesnt make sense
CaucasianRaymond 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond Boxing rules prohibit many MMA techniques, MMA rules allow ALL boxing techniques. This is my point, a boxer is ALLOWED every move he has trained, the reason he can't get a chance to use them is because the MMA fighting system is much superior.
You were the one who brought salary into it to strengthen your weak argument, my point was only that boxers lose against MMA fighters because their system is extremely limited in comparison.
mark1983peace 1 year ago
@mark1983peace Dude in 2009 washed up boxer Ray Mercer beat former UFC champ Sylvia in like 30 seconds.. Mercer was a heavyweight boxing champ in fuckin 1991. There has never been an elite pro boxer in his prime who attempt MMA so please dont act like MMA has some kind of victory over boxing. Boxers dont take time to learn other combat sports because they are too busy doing THEIR OWN sport. that has paid them millions. Understand?
CaucasianRaymond 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@CaucasianRaymond Again you're going totally off topic.
I appreciate boxing, I spent 8 years learning, and practised regularly with the Antrim boxing champ, but its very limited.
mark1983peace 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond Tim Sylvia? Anyone can knock that guy out, have Mercer fight an actual Mixed Martial Artist, I mean c'mon who has Sylvia beat? Oh yeah, no one. So, umm, yeah, for Mercer to knock an unskilled MMA fighter out than he must be good in MMA right? Nope, have him fight someone like Cain Velasuqez or someone like him, than talk.
BallroomBlitz15 1 year ago
@BallroomBlitz15 He's beaten Andrei Arlovski- twice!
walshman316 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond Guess who beat ray mercer in an MMA match after that? KIMBO SLICE! Kimbo was even winning the stand-up portion too. Tim Sylvia isn't even in the UFC anymore, he was a "former" champ when the sport wasn't as evolved to where it is now at heavy wieght, he has no chance of becomming champ again, very little chance of fighting in the UFC ever again. Anyway its dumb to compare the sports, apples and oranges. And I agree no boxer in his prime has attempted to transition to MMA.
neonblack88 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond James Toney is the closest but everyone knows he is never in shape, doesnt approach it as an MMArtist but as a pure boxer which will never work. He also has the worst style of boxing for MMA and his first fight was against randy goddamn couture.
neonblack88 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond LOL ray mercer losing to kimbo a bum yosuke nishijima going 0-5 in mma. a prime boxer would get dominated in mma just like the opposite. james vs couture proves all
ageeeeeeeeee 1 year ago
Toney's talk was only to promote the fight so his paycheck would be bigger. No one took his antics seriously except MMA fanboys. Those idiots never stopped to think that if Toney hated MMA so much why would he be there in the 1st place learning and training? Sensitive morons
CaucasianRaymond 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond
And boxing fanboys were STUPID enough to think Toney would WIN by KO in the first round, and clean out the division. Thankfully I know a few who were willing to bet on that.
chiconspiracy 1 year ago
@chiconspiracy Name one credible boxing person (coach, fighter, former fighter, known boxing writer) who thought Toney would win? I'm a boxing fan and I certainly didnt hear of any. Were some of us rootin for James? Yes. But him actually winning wasnt a realistic outlook for any of us
CaucasianRaymond 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond You were talking about "MMA Fanbois" I'm just letting you know boxing "fanbois" are just as annoying, and have less to back it up. Go to any boxing forum period, and they were full of people saying how Toney would KO Couture. As annoying as they are, at least I made some money off of them.
chiconspiracy 1 year ago
@chiconspiracy You seem to be confusing James Toney fans with the general boxing fans. James Toney fans think that he can beat either Klitschko(current heavyweight boxing champs). Boxing fans know he'd get destroyed. Fans of a certain fighter usually arent good general boxing fans.
There's a difference dude. Recognize it and learn
CaucasianRaymond 1 year ago
@CaucasianRaymond
Really, that's why polls on boxing forums showed an overwhelming prediction that Toney would KO Couture? I made 50 bucks off two boxers from my gym, who don't even like Toney, but said "MMA guys can't punch for shit, he'll knock Randy out"
chiconspiracy 1 year ago
@chiconspiracy Save you rmoney winning stories dude.On the internet they are like BIGFOOTstories. I post at eastside boxing and almost (one of the biggest international boxing forums) no one picked Toney or took his venture to MMA seriously except diehard Toney fans.

@CaucasianRaymond

That should speak volumes on how most general boxing fans felt. ok? bye

"This will the first and only UFC event that I will watch. Toney will knock that glass jawed bum out with the first punch landed"

But I never see someone strike the throat in UFC.
immaginationkids2000 1 year ago
@immaginationkids2000 Banned grappling= Any slams that would land the person on the top of the head with the hips above the head (piledriver style) small joint mauipulation (fingers and toes). Also the throat is part of the illegal strike zones list. Again in my comment I said "closest thing to a "real fight" so yes in the street a knee or kickto a guy who is down is a great option, eye strikes and head buts are great weapons but this is the sport side of fighting.
JdawgMMAblog 1 year ago

That was when he had absolutely zero use for jujitsu.
immaginationkids2000 1 year ago
@immaginationkids2000 The "new" rules have nothing to do with favoring one style or another. The current rules were made by the fight commission, based on descriptions of the techniques given by Big John McCarthy. The stomps, knees/kicks to a downed opponent, head buts, and 6-12 elbows were made illegal for 2 basic reasons. 1) Fighter safety and 2) the "code of clean fighting". Still the sport is called mixed martial arts, so learning as much as possible is important, why hate of BJJ?
JdawgMMAblog 1 year ago
@JdawgMMAblog True the safety of the fighters is paramount. Big John McCarthy was the right guy to consult. I guess I am starting to see the same stuff in every fight. The take down, pull guard, try to pass guard, guy on bottom brings legs to shoulder of top guy to try triangle, side mount, arm bar, bottom guy gives back, get double hooks, choke. I could NOT do what they do, but UFC is getting repetitive. That is why I miss guys who fought like Kerr on the ground.
immaginationkids2000 1 year ago
@JdawgMMAblog on epoint worth sayin gis thatin a street fight it's rarely against 1 person so going to ground is a nightmare as your likely to be kicked from someone else. MMA cant compare to boxing- they're are two different sports.
wannasaysummit 1 year ago
@JdawgMMAblog This..Some people will never realize this since they are still stuck in that guard of just watching two guys punch each other for 12 plus rounds. Many people want to see a true fight where you have many weapons throughout the fight. This the evolution of combat sports, and the next generation will only watch MMA. Its already heading there. Imagine 5-10 years from now.

@zwip778 i understand where you are coming from...but those gay references are getting really old....MMA is about showing what a real fight would be like
Oreillyisthebest 1 year ago

BLAGASPANTS 1 year ago
@BLAGASPANTS It sure would be an upset, he really shouldn't have a chance on paper aha
I'm not sure how big of a punch Toney has, but it should only take one from a top level boxer. You think he can beat Couture?
LukeRock1000 1 year ago
@LukeRock1000 It's a difficult one to predict because Toney hasn't fought once in MMA yet, if he had a few MMA fights against lesser opponents then I could make a wise prediction.
Also I have to hold into account that Toney hasn't won a meaningful boxing fight since 2003 against Holyfield ( who was shot ).
One thing is for sure, Toney ain't going to be there just to make up the numbers. So the answer to your question is.... I don't know. ha ha
BLAGASPANTS 1 year ago
@BLAGASPANTS It should make for a good fight, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to it!

@LukeRock1000 Yeah it's crazy but I'm totally pumped for this fight. Going to definitely be interesting.

@BLAGASPANTS Do you watch more boxing or MMA, who do you want to win?
LukeRock1000 1 year ago
@LukeRock1000 Well watched boxing most of my life but I like MMA, if some fucker is getting knocked out I tend to like it.

...of course there are better boxers in the boxing world than someone who trains all aspects of fighting, that's fairly obvious.
LukeRock1000 1 year ago
It's about individual vs individual.
LukeRock1000 1 year ago
MMA > Boxing in theory, simply because the arsenal is larger... They have better hands, take them away from them (to the floor or clinch). People saying boxers would win in MMA if they trained leg kicks and grappling for a year, then they're MMA...
Everyone knows boxers have the best hands. That's all they train though, MMA strategy simply takes hands away from a boxer. No question MMA should win every time under MMA rules. No question boxers should win every time queensbury rules.
LukeRock1000 1 year ago
@LukeRock1000 lol, if a boxer goes into the octagon, he's gonna work on his take down defense. and everything else too.people act like boxers to mma will keep just working on hands and nothing else.and toney is doing everything correct to come into the fight and win. sides couture is old.
ryu1150 1 year ago
@ryu1150 I think you may have misread something I wrote. I have no idea why you're writing what you are.
"he's gonna work on his take down defense. and everything else too" like I said, he's not a boxer then, he's a MMA...
I don't think Toney will have good enough wrestling though or ground game to win this fight... I don't think he's a big hitter either really is he? Also, he's pretty old too.
I don't know which people you mean, but I think we're talking about the same ones, lol
LukeRock1000 1 year ago
@LukeRock1000 yea...he's a monster hitter when he decides to be
Oreillyisthebest 1 year ago
@Oreillyisthebest I don't think you can just decide to hit hard lol, Toney hasn't got much of a punch for a heavyweight, anyone can tell you that. That's why I think it favours Couture even more.
LukeRock1000 1 year ago
@LukeRock1000 44 knock outs speaks for its self mate course he has heavy hands you know anthing about lights out toney?
