Hi, Im a complete beginner when it comes to using an emulated output. I have a recording program on my computer called sonar LE. Can anyone please tell me how i get from the emulated output on my amp, to an imput on my computer. Thanks.
I have never recorded any of my music into my Windows 7 (64 Bit) P.C. -- Can you tell me what sound card and mixer I would need to get my electric guitar and microphone into my PC simultaneously? Thxs ! Jerry
You need a soundcard with two inputs, that's all. There are many to choose from. Check that it has at least two inputs and possible a "mic input" and that it supports Win 7. All that info can be found from the website of the respective soundcard.
Sorry but where's that nice rich harmonic breakup that you get from a decent valve amp, this sounds transistor to me, which is fine if you like that kind of thing - brittle, thin and annoying. - maybe it's just the way you have it set, but personally i think this amp would soon become tiresome. I'm dissapointed because i was hoping to find rich, creamy valve saturation at a reasonable cost and had heard good things about Blackstar - everyone to his own, i suppose, thanks for the demo.
@mothowl It's because it's running through an emulated output, not interacting with a speaker, and that feedback loop is absolutely required to let the tubes sing. I have yet to hear a direct recording of a tube amp without a speaker that does this. But plug these blackstars into a nice speaker cabinet and you will get that rich tube tone you speak of. I have a jcm900 & a rectifier as well & the HT-5 can run with those beautifully through a V30 cab.
@0x1 I've had mine for a year and a half, and I think every guitar player should have one, or at the very least, try one. They remind me a lot of Marshalls. They're rock solid, the overdrive smokes, but they cost less than a Marshall! I'm working on getting a second one.
Idk if you know this or not.....maybe you do! But Blackstar is actually made by engineers that used to work for Marshall. Hence why they have a bit of a Marshall tone.
Can someone clarify the issue of whether a cab must be connected when using the emulated output? There seems to be two differing opinions on here, both of which are very convinced they are right(?!?!?)
Hey there, no you do NOT need the actual cab to play if your using the line out. You can use the headphone jack to listen to what your doing while recording into your computer or multitrack recorder
You've obviously never recorded anything in your life then. There are several possibilities. Use the emulated line out to a multitrack board, plug your headphones into the boards headphone input. Use a USB interface, plug headphones into the interface, which is connected to the line out/emulated/headphone jack
Then how the hell did you not know a simple common thing like weather or not you can record with an emulated line out and listen to it at the same time? You might want to reconsider your career.
Inserting a plug into the line-out jack defeats the power amp. However, should you accidentally remove the plug you might damage the amp - thus, Blackstar isn't really promoting this feature.

I have already had one back surgery, and they want to try again. I think I'd rather have one of these chairs instead. Thanks for sharing

thats a brilliant tone, so then just straight out of desk into the line input of ur sound card? or was it XLR to XLR from the desk to sound card?
davesnocken 2 years ago
guitar- amp-mixer-soundcard-computer and 1/4'' cable between very device until soundcard
laripsspiral 2 years ago
@laripsspiral Definitely prefer the 1x12, seems to retain more dynamics and pick attack.
MrRobGodek 11 months ago
hey man, did you record this into the line input on ur desk?

Yup.

i dont see how that would work seeing as the line out and the headphone jack are one and the same.

HRcircut85 2 years ago
@HRcircut85 You are wrong...A cab MUST be connected otherwise you will do serious damage to the output transformer!!!!!
djjiles 2 years ago
True.
laripsspiral 2 years ago
You don't need a cab connected when u use the emulated output.
Here's what Mr. Blackstar said:
Plugging a jack plug (mono or stereo) into the emulated output socket of
the HT-5 mutes the HT-5 power amplifier, and in this state it is safe to use
the HT-5 without a loudspeaker plugged into the speaker output jacks of the
unit.
okunoblog 1 year ago 14
@okunoblog Yeah thats true, only the standby switch of my combo is not working when the emulated output been used.

@laripsspiral Wrong.

@djjiles but you can always put it on standby and use preamp only, don't you?
lustForTrust 1 year ago
Yup, but the cab needs to be plugged in, as someone else also noted. So in a way, you need a cabinet any way.
