Looks like the insight was struggling to reach highway speeds to me, can the insight reach over 100 mph before the engine blows up seem to me that it cant.........and does anyone know the top speed of this car........i want to buy one but need more info on it
@scaremengaviation not only awful to drive but the Backseat is Awful because I couldn't fit in the back seat because the celling is too low and the legroom is too small so the Insight should only be a 2 seater like the original one.
@CruzoBolt I'll say the batteries almost never need replacement, unless it's having a problem which is covered with warranty, 5 years in my country and longer for others. Most first generation Honda Insight (1999) and Toyota Prius (1997) are still using their first battery, incredible :]....!!!!!!
the insight is not a full hybrid its called a soft hybrid it depends mostly on the engine and cant be without it , its not like the leaf or volt where it can be driven on electricity alone and the engine only charges the battery.
98hp and 123tq is very impressive for a 1.3. I bet the Insight would still get great mileage without the hybrid system, without the batteries and motor it would be at least a few hundred pounds lighter, the aerodynamics are still good, not to mention it would be much less expensive to buy.
@jakubkrcma since when do you worry about top speeds in a hybrid. no one should be going that fast either. if you want a fast car, go buy one, if you want good mileage, then be prepared to go slower
@MrOdogowen Yes, but with the Prius, you get the following: longer, wider, and taller car with 5.9" longer wheelbase, more head/shoulder/hip/leg room (ESPECIALLY in the back), more cargo space (over 35 % more - 21.6 vs 15.9 cu.ft), better acceleration, higher top speed, better fuel consumption (city, highway, and combined), and most importantly, OVER 43 % BETTER CITY RANGE PER TANK (606.9 miles in the Prius against 424 miles in the Insight). It is an overall very good car in that market segment.
@MrOdogowen 0-100 mph Prius 30.2, Insight 38.0 (over 25.8 % slower - Car and Driver comparison). That's ABYSMAL. Since 0-90 mph was 23.2 in the Prius and 25.4 in the Insight, it means that the Prius gets from 90 to 100 in 7.0 s, while the Insight in 12.6 s, that's 80 % worse!!! Since the Prius can do 115 mph and the Insight 112 mph (look at the actual "TEST SHEET"), you can tell from the 0-100 figures that the Insight 0-112 takes FOREVER (since 80-90 was just 22.2 % worse than the Prius).
@tcbecht88 I try to avoid ranking cars ... folks should buy whatever fits best. The Insight is less expensive than the Prius and - for those that enjoy more sporty (but not sports car) handling - can be a bit more fun to drive.
@tcbecht88 If you are considering the Prius because of the better fuel economy, i have read from multiple sources that spending the the extra money on the Prius will not pay off until you reach 360,000, miles but by then on either car you would have already most likely had to replace the battery's, which are cheaper to replace on the insight than the Prius. And the Prius has all electric steering, feels like a video game so how would you know if something is wrong with the front end?
0-60 is probably the deal breaker for alot of people, a prius is faster and by epa is better on gas, but this is cheaper and in my opinion more fun to drive!
I took a test drive at the dealership today. This is the first car in decades I've been excited about. It was great. Fun to drive. I was even thinking of buying one in a month or so. But as soon as I was back behind the wheel of my trusty 340,000 mile 1988 Chevy Sprint Metro (EPA 55/60 mpg city/highway) I knew I wasn't buying any new car. After all these years and miles, I still *love* driving my Sprint. Which is saying a lot when you think about it. Insight would be my choice otherwise though.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This has to be the most positive review of the 2010 Insight. I hate that a lot of the other reviews have compared it to the Prius. They may look similar but that is where it ends. I am the proud owner of a 2010 Insight and absolutely love it. I recently went on 3500 km trip and averaged about 4.4 L/100 km. That was quite a bit more than what the EPA gave it. The terrain wasn't easy either. Mountains and flat land combined. Thank you for your fair review.
I'm wondering if it's an internet explorer thing. I use Macs, mostly, and have only one PC, but it does not have explorer. The PC runs Firefox and has external speakers.

@tcbecht88 the prius costs $5000 more. you need to travel over 440,000 miles to make the costs even with both vehicles. the insight is a bargain

How was the Manual mode in this car? was it annoying with a long 1st ratio like the Altima is? or is it fun and have a short 1st ratio?
