Well, that's because the PSX cinematic is pre-rendered, while the Wii one is rendered in real time (that is, it's not video playback).
Also, as far as I can tell, the characters on the PSX version are sprites with pre-rendered 3D graphics, while the on the Wii, they are polygon rendered.
So, the only major diference is that the PSX one looks brighter and the text on the intro is more poethic.
i really like how the ring at the beginning looks for the playstation. the cinemagraphics look better too.i played the demo when it first came for the playstation, but so far i have the wii one. currently working for playstation one. its just so high on ebay or amazon since its rare.

Lights on ps are better but I prefer that on the wii cause of the athmosphere and the design of the main character. Abouth the athmosphere... Just got it from gamestop. I'm loving every minute of it. It stays true to the original(though, hearing the English voices, while not bad, is sort of awkward. I switched it to Phantomile since I've grown up hearing it) and I'm happy to play this again since I've never beaten it and it was given away. And seeing how every scene was recreated almost exactly like the original makes me say "THE NOSTALGIA'S KILLING ME!" :D
Okay, this might be a stupid question, but why is that the Klonoa on the wii I have sound like he does from 1 and 2? He actually speaks english in mine.
@BadApple64 I haven't played in quite some time, but if I remember right when your in the title screen you can go to options and choose which language you'd rather have.
I played both at one point, but I was so young when the PS1 version came out that I didn't quite know how to play and ended up failing at the Moon Kingdom. But the Wii version I beat easily. Got all the citizens from the visions too.
I prefer how the cut scenes look on the PS1, but the Wii version doesn't look bad either. I did like the choice of words better in the PS1 version, as well as how they wrote the speech out. But it's definitely worth getting the Wii remake if you can't get your hands on the PS1 version, based on what I can tell from this comparison.

I don't believe I swore in my previous comment. Also, you stated that the game was a sonic the hedgehog rip-off, while your reasons for saying this are based on character design, not gameplay. Additionally, your argument for the similarity in character design is also flawed, as you state that Klonoa has eyes similar to Sonic, even though Sonic's eye design is one white shape with two pupils, while Klonoa has two Yellow shapes for eyes.

@PsiloCybinDreamX The PS1 released 9\1995 and N64 in 9\1996. 1 year difference. PS2 released 10\2000 and Gamecube 11\2001. N64 only competed with the PS2 for only 1 year.
FACT: PS2 was the least powerful console spec wise last generation. God of War is an amazing looking game, but PS2 could never do F-ZeroGX nearly as clean at a constant 60fps.
Wii is pretty much an overclocked GC, but has many great games despite it's technical inferiority to the PS3 and 360.

The display at the bottom of the first game adds to the look of the game a lot too. I also really like how the platforms wobble. Another thing about Klonoa's look in the PS1 version, he's shorter and wider. Cartoon artists genereally use this proportion to make characters look cuter. In the Wii version, he's kind of long looking, and awkward.

I'm impressed, actually. The cutscene graphics on the PS1 are actually better than those on the Wii. The PS1 version looks a lot more whimsical and childlike, even after the cutscene it has more of a storybook quality to it. The yellow in his eyes being a lot bigger really adds to his look, I think, and his costume overall is better looking in the original. The Wii version has cooler backgrounds and animation, just because the buildings look bigger, and the water texture is better. PS1 wins this
The one difference that strikes me the most is that Klonoa has less dialogue in the Wii version. I think it's because his Japanese seiyuu (voice actor), Kumiko Watanabe, is having trouble trying to reprise her role after like 10+ years, his voice isn't exactly easy to do, especially when you're speaking gibberish XD
Looking at this, it reminds me that the PS1 version looked very good, better than most other PS1 games.
I like the Wii port still, being bumped up a generation-and-a-half in visuals [and using 3D models for objects and characters instead of just the level].

@PsiloCybinDreamX The PS1 released 9\1995 and N64 in 9\1996. 1 year difference. PS2 released 10\2000 and Gamecube 11\2001. N64 only competed with the PS2 for only 1 year.
FACT: PS2 was the least powerful console spec wise last generation. God of War is an amazing looking game, but PS2 could never do F-ZeroGX nearly as clean at a constant 60fps.
Wii is pretty much an overclocked GC, but has many great games despite it's technical inferiority to the PS3 and 360.

The display at the bottom of the first game adds to the look of the game a lot too. I also really like how the platforms wobble. Another thing about Klonoa's look in the PS1 version, he's shorter and wider. Cartoon artists genereally use this proportion to make characters look cuter. In the Wii version, he's kind of long looking, and awkward.

I'm impressed, actually. The cutscene graphics on the PS1 are actually better than those on the Wii. The PS1 version looks a lot more whimsical and childlike, even after the cutscene it has more of a storybook quality to it. The yellow in his eyes being a lot bigger really adds to his look, I think, and his costume overall is better looking in the original. The Wii version has cooler backgrounds and animation, just because the buildings look bigger, and the water texture is better. PS1 wins this

The one difference that strikes me the most is that Klonoa has less dialogue in the Wii version. I think it's because his Japanese seiyuu (voice actor), Kumiko Watanabe, is having trouble trying to reprise her role after like 10+ years, his voice isn't exactly easy to do, especially when you're speaking gibberish XD

Looking at this, it reminds me that the PS1 version looked very good, better than most other PS1 games.
I like the Wii port still, being bumped up a generation-and-a-half in visuals [and using 3D models for objects and characters instead of just the level].
