He also won both Serie A and the European Cup with Juventus so Platinis list of achievments certainly is very impressive.

Both were genius.
Platini was better than Zizou cause of his fantastic magic football (technique, shot, long perfect pass).
But Zizou was more complete than Platini and went to 2 WC finals, winning 1.
However titles are not theonly thing to compare, cause some fantastic players like Cruyff, Baggio, Baresi, Zico, Eusebio, Di Stefano, Hagi, Stoichkov, Dener and Platini never won a WC and good players, but not genius, like Iniesta and Villa have already won 1 WC (nice equip).

zidane better than platini because he has won more individual awards. and zidane sometimes single handedly destroyed teams like Brazil in the 1998 final, italy in the euro 2000 final, bayer leverkuesen in the champions league final in 2002, england in 2004, and brazil in 2006 and those are just some off the top of my head. Zidane has also won more than platini at international level like the 98 wc, and the 2000 euro. Platini only won the euro in84.

Passing, zidane better in de combination, and defence splitting passes, Platini better in de opening passing and long passes, passing-overall i still would go for Platini. Goal scoring Platini. Zidane had much more intellegence.

Perhaps This was France's golden generation of football, it was amazing while it happened, but this generation has is now gone, it came and went and left us with unforgettable moments and set the par for French Football... only thing i wish now is for another generation of Exceptional French Football players to take to the pitch and carry the flag proudly for La France... sadly, this WC was a terrible example... i only wish them the best. :(

Platini was better. His performance in the 84 Euro Cup is the greatest performance in a major tournament ever. And that includes Maradona in 1986 Mexico. Platini single handedly made France a soccer powerhouse. He had way less help than Zidane had in his years with France. They both had great vision but Platini was a lethal scorer from the midfield.

Zidane could lead his team, he was perfect playmaker. Both were dangerous ,even they were midfield players.
My conclusion :

I agree. Zidane was good but Platini was better. No comparison with regard to leadership quality. I don't think anyone mentions Platini's technique to stikiing the ball. He's got great technique. It seem so effortless. That's why he was such a great passer. Still the best passer I have ever seen. Nowadays people talking about Xavi as a great passer, beleive me Platini was way better.

@zodeloni It was pretty difficult for Platini to be named Fifa world player of the year considering the fact that the award wasn´t introduced until four years after his retirement. Platini won three Ballon d´ors (83, 84, 85), was top scorer in Serie A three times and was top scorer at the European Championship in 1984 where he led France to its first international title. He also won both Serie A and the European Cup with Juventus so Platinis list of achievments certainly is very impressive.

Zidane full of himself? Arguably the classiest player to step onto a pitch. Its no surprise why hes admired and regarded as the best by most people on the planet. His game, attitude and demeanor never showed any selfishness and when he did act alone he made it look beautiful. Platini on the other hand regards himself as a great player, Ive never heard anything of that sort coming out of Zidane. Always praised others first. If you want to talk about high egos, mention Cantona, CR or Maradona.

@BiniamBarcelona You're probably not old enough to remember the 80's. Platini single-handedly won the 1984 UEFA Championship for France. He had NINE goals in five games and France wasn't a power back then. He also was the top scorer of the 1985 Champions League. He pretty much won that by himself also for Juventus. Achievements are team based. Zidane had much more talented teams than Platini. Platini had Zidane's vision AND lethal scoring.

The World Cup is a TEAM accomplishment. You're using it to argue for INDIVIDUAL greatness. The 98 France team was a juggernaut. The 80's French teams were average except for Platini.

@thesportsdude90 You are obviously very biased, because Zidane would have made it in any era. The 2000-2006 French team are just as "average" as the 80´s french team. The 80´s team couldnt without Platini and the 2000´s couldnt without Zidane, the French team would have never won a world cup or even reached a quarter final if they played without Zizou, so stop your bullshit, saying Platini is better than Zidane. You cant do that.

Athletes are better today but also have better technology and better strengthening techniques and equipment etc. It's like the Bill Russell vs. Kareem arguments. Khaled, I have no problem with your opinion. It's clear you're actually a mature person. All I'm saying is France is much better today than 25 years ago. To each his own. It'd be best to ask French people over age 30.

If you brought the Platini team (without platini) 30 years ago and replaced them with those of today, they wouldnt have faired just as bad or at least better than those of today who got 1 point in 2010 WC. Just as Platini was the team in the 80´s, Zidane was it from the 1998-2006.
