Then learn how to use it. That is how you will create menus for things like a custom menu system or a custom battle system.

I've since stopped using rpg maker 2003. The battle system itself is not difficult, but it would be best for you to get a good understanding of pictures, battle animations, charsets, backgrounds, key input processing,, conditional branches, and the combination of these catagories.

LOTS of show picture and animation commands, with conditional branches and variables and switches and lots of time.
