Hyung Sil is a beautiful pattern...Sil Hyung even more so. I practice CTF. My school will have videos up in the next week or so. If you would like a link, just let me know.
I would love a link! I have learned all of Hyung Sil, and would like to see the movements of Sil Hyung, we have to do all of CTF patterns at my 1st Dan test. 180 moves wow! I had to do the first 98 moves at my last testing, it got tiring!
At each testing they randomly pick a few patterns & then you have too do all of the choong sil patterns up to your rank (tying them into each other) it's nice to watch.
Comment from jinglebearr: "We also do the Choong Sil Kwan patterns at my school, and I have done Song Song, and Yong Gom, and now am working on Hyung Sil, do you know that one? It is one of the most awkward patterns I have ever done, and the way it switches sides, and goes back and forth KILLS ME."
They were still working on that one when I left the USTF. If you need help on it, let me know. I may try to put a vid up as well.
I would love if you could put a vid up of it, just so I can have a moving guide to follow along with as I practice at home, because I cannot find any videos of it, and it can get confusing to go with just what my paper says.
I might be off by a year or two. I remember learning the form back when GM Hardin came up with it. I was in the USTF at the time, and it was merged with MATC.
looked in my CTF manual... GM Hardin founded MATC in 1984 as a fifth degree and developed the choong sil patterns over a number of years. The LAST pattern , Sil Hyun, was introduced in 1995 at at that time MATC changed it name to CTF. so the final pattern is fifteen years old, with the other three being older. I could ask exactly when if there is an interest
At some point, I'm fuzzy on the dates, the MATC merged with the USTF, where I was a member. It seems like GM Hardin was still working on the third form when I left the USTF, and I remember when all the Black Belts had to go back and learn Song-Song. From what I've gathered, the MATC split back off when the USTF splintered, and that was about the time that GM Hardin Finished the fourth form and changed the name to the CTF.
@tequilakong could be! I just know what is in the manual and what I have fragmented together talking to him about those turbulent times... anyway, its a good, clear video for people who do not have access to CTF materials first hand... very precise with stances and SHIFTING -the point to the whole pattern.

I just didn't know if it was from MATC or not, because i've only practiced for one year now.

Finished this pattern up last night. Got my stripe for it. (I only had to know half of it for Green 2, so I'm ahead of the game).
He commented on how much my side kick has improved and let me break boards. Very cool.

Oh...and the chamber for it is crazy.

Got to the low block, back fist. Gross....how awkward is that?
rebarsucks 4 years ago
cool. I've only seen the first 20 movements up until now. Thanks

NP. Hope it helps, though I had to guess on a few of the moves. It's only been 15 years since the last time I did that form. ;)
Let me know how it's going!

I'm up to movement 36. It's weird. We've been practicing the Choong Sil patterns(self-improvement).
So we're doing song-song then continuning into Yong Gom....and so on.
