If the rating system was well known even earlier, then I would've been allowed to play Street Fighter 2 because rated T is more "fantasy violence" and "animated blood" than Mortal Kombat's "hardcore violence" and "blood and gore". I think Street Fighter 2 wouldn've sold a whole bunch more than Mortal Kombat if it wasn't such an expensive cartridge.

The game was not intended for kids. Because at the time we, Americans as a whole, felt that the most violent game would come from JApan, we jsut sat back, and the game didn't from Japan, it was US made.

Nintendo wanted to avoid any controversy, hence why they cut the gore out. Because of the Blood Cheat, the Sega Verson, though inferior in graphics and sound effects when compared to the SNES verson, outsold the Nintendo Verson, it still agrivates me that a misunderstanding led to Nintendo's decision to censor MK's blood and change some of the fatalities, if you want a near arcade perfect port of MK 1, the Sega CD verson's the most intact, except for long load times
