Simple, if one can't stand someone in the business world then there's no deal made or early termination happens. Phil, MJ, Pip couldn't stand their GM. The ppl. have spoken, it is SourKrause. In a perfect world, Phil. MJ, Pip could just transfer themselves to another team (Let say NYK) but it wouldn't be fair to the people of Chicago (Phil, MJ, Pip have a very low failure rate). These 3 moved on and had their taste of Defeat. The world is left to wonder infinitely "what if"(The sad part).
I think the Bulls ended their run at the right time, they might have had a shot at the title in 1999 but I think they might have lost at some time in the playoffs. The Indiana series was the closest I ever felt during the championship run to feeling like we were going to lose.
Fuck Jerry Krause and fuck this video. Yes he helped build a winning team but he also is to blame for the demise of that same team. Stop saying "six championships" because what we are talking about is ONLY what happened after those championships, the demise.
He's the reason we lost Phil, MJ and Pip, why we gave away Brand and Artest for garbage, and invested in guys like Fizer and Williams. He's to blame for why we even had to rebuild post 98 and why that rebuilding was totally botched.
All these reasons "why you can't blame Jerry for the Bulls demise" are derived from the mistakes and steps that Jerry and the management board took.
1. Scottie was underpayed - Management should try to keep his employees motivation on the highest level - they should have considered paying more to Pip
2. Jerry had some personal issues with Phil - said that he wasn't going to bring him back even if they went 82-0 in the 97-98 season
3. Michael would never leave if Jerry retained Phil as a coach
@datooo23 So, the arguments that are provided in the Video for why we shouldn't blame Jerry for the demise, are themselves derived from the steps that Jerry took. This means that all the "credit" for breaking up the All Time best team that has ever played this game goes to Mr. Fvcking Jerry Krause! This team would have won another 2 or 3 championships. They would just annihilate LA's Kobe and Shaq. Come on man, who would stand against the Bulls ! MJ didn't want to retire that time - obvious.
Unconvinced. C'mon, this is ludicrous - the case was made in the beginning of this piece. This guy was abrasive, insecure, obnoxious and people didn't like being around him. Of course if MJ and PJ stayed all would have been well, but they couldn't stand the guy. If you're what some people deem an "asshole" you'll find folks won't want to hang around you - no matter how much success there is waiting...
Scootie talking more money dude you wasn't worth more money. Think about when Jordan retired in 1993 that was pipen time to shine ....yes they made it to the playoffs but didnt win no championship. The reality of it is scootie is not michael He can't go there and score under pressure and he can't take over a game when his team is losing thats the truth
Maybe I'm in the minority but I have hard time giving Krause lots of credit for putting together those great Bulls teams cuz Jordan was soooo great, it is not difficult to find the pieces around him that'll fit in right to win rings. Those Bulls teams of the late 90s would've not even been a playoff team if Jordan wasn't on 'em cuz those teams didn't have much talent.
@checkmateforever Jordan retired for 18 months and the 1st yr he didn't play the Bulls won 55 games and was Hue Hollins makin a bad call in the Eastern Conf Semi's against the Knicks from movin on to the Conf Finals. Pippen's the only player in NBA history to lead a team that won 55 games or more in every major category and not win MVP. They weren't a Championship team but they were definetly a playoff team.
Ok so the argument is u can't blame Jerry Krause because Scottie, Michael and Phil left??? Wow strong argument. The truth is we will never know exactly what happened between Krause, Scottie, Michael and Phil 100%.
However I do believe that Krause told Phil before 1998 "I don't care if u go 82-0, you're not coming back next year." Don't believe me google it!
That's all I need to blame Krause and it's all anybody should need.
Phil Jackson should be #1. First off all, Mike made it clear he didn't wanna play for anybody else. 2nd, if Phil goes into the front office and says "we're the world champs and we deserve the right to defend our title and I wanna come back and do that!" They all would've come back startin' with Mike. Phil couldn't take the fact that Krause made him, brought him outta the dungeon of the CBA and hired him, and he constantly let him know that. Which is why they couldn't work together anymore.
Krause is the No.1 enemy and always will be. The players and coaching staff were united against this prick and the shit he used to shovel. He resented Phil, Michael and Scottie and they in return him. This clip is nothing but tabloid trash editing credible sources for singular comments taken out of context. I truly suggest to any Bulls fan or NBA fan in general to seek the truth if they don't truly know it. Do not bother watching this biased, highly edited & trashy piece of so called Journalism.
From all i saw in the video - Krause and Jackson were willing to take more if not all the credit and Jordan and (specially!) Pippen were immature, proving all the success cannot change a man. Its the 4 of them who brought the Bulls down and its about pride for Krause, Jackson and Jordan and about money and pride for Pippen
Yet again ESPN lying again, I remember that whole era, Jerry Krause would always take jabs at Jackson in the media and he only signed Jackson for 1997-1998 season, Krause even said if the bulls won the title that year that there was no way Jackson would be Bulls coach again, so it was Jerry Krause who broke up the Bulls, not Phil Jackson...
Just imagine if MJ didn't retire the first time and and the second time after winning the six championship. He will probably have just as many as Bill Russell or more. Scottie Pippen hatin on Mj. He was greater get over it
I will say this about Phil Jackson has a habit of disrespecting General Managers. He did the same thing to Jerry West who masterminded 2 Lakers dynasty and tried to get players to turn on West, except West had the respect of players from Magic to Kareem to Shaq and Kobe. Just a little insight guys in case everyone thinks Phil Jackson isn't to be blamed.
@QUACOSTREET Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Jerry Krause fan. BUT, I understand that he was running a business in a huge market. He did what he had to do. And Scottie for all his talents, was a fool for signing that whack contract without 1st shopping himself a little bit. That would've at least given him some leverage in the next negotiation AND he wouldn't've felt so bitter about Toni's or Stacy's contracts.
They say it's MJ and Pippen and Jackson's fault because they didn't stay. But this "documentary" doesn't ask WHY they chose to leave. It just flies by over questions and it's very superficial. I appreciate that it tries to show both sides of the medal to an issue, but it fails so bad. It's so sensationalist but hey that's media.
blame MJ? phil left, pip did, and after all this time mj will carry the load? thats just crap!! pip shud have bn given more than his paycheck and not be the 3rd highest paid only, krause helped this team put together..tahts why, they had enough..because there was no respect for each other..
at some point it has to end, and personally, i want them to stay..they coud have won their 7th, but it happened..and theres no way that Chicago would put the num 1 blame on mj!!
I remembered Reinsdorf making a statement that "Organizations wins championship, not players" and that drove MJ crazy having felt that he never got the fullest respect from Reinsdorf .....or else the Bulls would've gotten a four-peat.
Krause said that actually.Krause said that he actually said "Players and Coaches alone dont win championships."That is actually true.George Steinbrenner played as significant a role in the Yankees championships as the players.
@BobReidy I disagree, you gotta have talent and cohesiveness within the organization but organization don't build talents ....players do.....without the most important element that is MJ, the Bulls would never have won those championship.....although I give credit to Krause for getting Pip, Grant, Pax and Cartwright.......for surrounding MJ with much better supporting cast.......Lets see how easy for Reinsdorf to win another 3-peat.
Ok people. I lived in Chicago all my life. There is no doubt Krause was a huge part of these championships. What outside observers dont understand is he had an ego bigger then Jordans. He used to seek media for attention. He brought the players other then Jordan in here to help win. But he also dismantled this team. He knew he would never get the proper recognition unless he dismantled and started over. Does anyone remember how that turned out?
If krause would of give a little respect for the players and coaching staff then no body would go against him...I still think krause broke up the bulls...he invited tim to his daughter's wedding and not phil....major disrespect to phil...everybody know tim will be the coach after that year...then he having second thoughts about resigning phil...yo if I know my employer might fire me or not renew my contract then want me to come back...I will tell them go F*&k yourself
AT THE END OF THE DAY IT WILL ALWAYS BE JERRY KRAUSE WHO IS TO BE BLAME! BUT IF MY OPINION EVEN MATTER'S I WOULD SAY ITS... THE OTHER JERRY!... JERRY REINSDORF GAVE KRAUSE ALL THE ACCESS AND THE POWER TO PRACTICALLY RUN THE TEAM. HE KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND NOT TO MENTION THEY WERE ON TOP OF THE HILL SO WHY NOT INTEREVENE AND PATCH UP THE DIFFERENCES. HE COULD HAVE FIRED KRAUSE AND SENT HIM TO WORK SOME PLACE ELSE AND KEPT THE CHAMPION TEAM. THAT SIMPLE!
I don't care who broke up the Bulls, because this is all petty b.s. How many more championships were they gonna win? Not much, lol. However, I would like to point out that reason number 5 is stupid. Just because someone puts something together, that doesn't mean that they shouldn't get blamed if it falls apart. For example, I could put together a huge corporation that makes billions. But then later on, I could run that corporation into the ground. I would be responsible for it's demise.
@spinnernet1 At least one title more, so why not take it? MJ had a one-year contract, so make short term contracts to keep the team or trade players after the next season.
And how much "building" did Krause do for the second 3-peat? Ron Harper-nobody wanted him at the time and he was washed up. Longley was a joke everywhere else, Kerr was a no-name journeyman who could hit a three. Great players make average talent look better than they are, Longley is the best example of that.
And this video has a contradiction. Jerry Krause said that he wasn't going to bring Phil Jackson back even if they went 82-0 in the 1997-1998 season. So how can you blame Phil Jackson for announcing that he was leaving when Jerry Krause was about to can him anyway? Jerry Krause was already on record as saying that he wasn't going to bring Phil Jackson back. So Phil just simply announced that he wasn't coming back. Blame GM Jerry Krause for that, not Phil.
@spinnernet1 true, but then he sort of took it back and said they will take anyone willing to come back. ya, at that point the damage was done , but he would have taken phil back, just saying.
6:44, Terry Armour : "I really believe that they would have stuck around for one more year (if Phil Jackson had stayed). ONE MORE YEAR? Okay, so this whole documentary is about how angry everyone is that the Bulls didn't stay together and win the asterisk/NBA lockout championship of 1999? That's so petty.
It's not like the Bulls left 3 or 4 championships on the table after 1998. Jordan and Pippen only had so much left in the tank, before the Bulls would have been dethroned by another team.
Lol, this documentary is such bullshit. Blaming Scottie Pippen, Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan for the breakup of the Chicago Bulls? Whoever put this documentary together, clearly wanted it to be controversial just so everyone could talk about it. At the end of the day, who cares who broke up the Bulls? Both Jordan and Pippen were getting old, so how many more championships could they have won? Did they really want to win the 1999 "asterisk" championship? Lol. NBA lockout 1998-1999.
man phil dont give a fuck bout chicago, he can leave and win a title 2 years later, and then win 4 more while chicago rebuilds and doesnt win shit until rose comes...
before the 98 season Krause said to Phil, even if you go 82-0 you are fucking done. Krause wanted to architect a team and be hailed as a genius, well....that was fun wasn't it fatty?
this is BULLSshit.... i think fhil jackson left becouse of jerry crouse and jerry at that time during 1997-98 wanted to dismiss him for some other coach and when fhill left michael left and then scotie also left...and that was the end.also michael always poaked on jerry becouse he hated him alot so if there wrent such bULLSshit between the players and the mangment I AM pisitively sure that whoud have won 10 champioships
Well letting go Kukoc, Artest and Brand wasn't smart at all, but Krause did some good deals. Getting Luc Longley, Rodman etc. And getting Pippen of course.
I grew up watching the Bulls win every year in the 90's but i'm sorry to say this but the sunset on them and all things had to come to an end someday and it did that brief shining moment doesnt last forever, thats life.
Jordan the blame?LOL It was the Jerry & Phil fire match that started all this "I'm leaving crap" in the first place. If those two would have kept the match unlit, I guarantee everyone stays. MJ left because Phil & Krause weren't seeing eye to eye. Those two had some beef for a long time, Phil was not going to stay. I remember Phil saying in 1997 after the 5th championship that he would stay "IF they wanted him back"... that says a lot about upper management.
stephen a smith - 'a' standing for asshole - you are a complete joke in the sports industry, nothing but a glorified 'arsenio hall' wannabe. Big ups for Scoop Jackson!
@falkner23 watch jordan on the bus, he explains why he left basketball, it wasnt anything to do with all this stuff, he and his father had a plan of him being a baseball player and when hes dad passed he wanted to do it right away.
@Hawkhunter07 ok, i just started being a basketball fan a few months ago and am obseessed with watching this man play, i got it wrong, big deal, just respecfully correct me
@falkner23 That whole scene where Pippen blew up with rage at Krause on the team bus in Seattle 97,was all documented in the book ''Playing for keeps, Michael Jordan and the world he made.'' David Halberstam. It all started with Jordan baiting Krause on what a bad fisherman he would be, Pippen joined in, but hed been drinking, and unlike Jordan could not control his emotions,he ended up crossing the line Jordan managed to always stop jst before crossing, and Pippen jst started screaming at Krause
Getting credit for building or helping create something doesn't mean you're not culpable for dismantling it. Krause not only gets credit for helping build the dynasty, but for destroying his own 'creation'.
that's bullshit when one of the guy said that krause put the supportive cast around jordan in the 2nd 3peats. jordan clearly was not coming back in 93-94 and the early stage of 94-95 season and the major components of the 96-98 team was there already by early 95.
and the bulls were struggling early on in 95 season until jordan showed up. the team wasn't a championship team (was fighting for a playoff spot mid way) until jordan returned to the roster.
this video doesn't make much sense at all. If it wasn't krause having problem with the major figures of the team this break up would have been delayed and the immediate effect to the bulls would have been minimized. and tell me how did krause win on his own without mj, pip, and phil glued the team together? the chemistry between them could have been different and krause got lucky getting all the piece for the puzzle, guess you can give him credit on that.
and how on earth a normal human being who has a bit of dignity would actually admire a fat ass like krause who is only good at playing the dirty politic behind over a great player like mj or a great coach like phil?
and in a way, the bulls walked away after 3 peat added a lot more to its legacy than if they eventually lose to some team in the playoff. Good run can never last forever anyway and it was such a cool way to end the legacy.
@popeyeisgood I agree 100% your comments. 2nd part of the video is bullshit.. Jordan Pippen had nothing to do with the team being broken up. It all rests with Jerry Krause and is out of wack ego, after seeing this i believe Phil should take a little blame also, i never knew they offered him to comeback..everything i read or heard was they were done with Phil. But at the end of the day Jerry Krause and Reinsdorf are to blame for this breaking up of a dynasty.. With Krause taking the most blame.
this video is complete bullshit

All these reasons "why you can't blame Jerry for the Bulls demise" are derived from the mistakes and steps that Jerry and the management board took.

2. Jerry had some personal issues with Phil - said that he wasn't going to bring him back even if they went 82-0 in the 97-98 season

Fucking Jerry he broke up the dynasty dammit I'm so really dissapointed this fat shit
manhin45 10 months ago
i think most of the reason this video give is missing the context.
1.phil is the reason for bulls broke up...the problem is....WHY PHIL WANT TO GO??
2.jordan the reason for bulls broke up...the problem still the same....WHY JORDAN WANT TO GO???
so in my opinion...jerry is the reason for the 2 case...not phil or jordan.
:)
sammy5887s 11 months ago
The only reasons that made any sense were the fact that all the contracts expired at the same time and the one that blames the owner.
dennydog10 11 months ago
this is BULLSshit.... i think fhil jackson left becouse of jerry crouse and jerry at that time during 1997-98 wanted to dismiss him for some other coach and when fhill left michael left and then scotie also left...and that was the end.also michael always poaked on jerry becouse he hated him alot so if there wrent such bULLSshit between the players and the mangment I AM pisitively sure that whoud have won 10 champioships
Mraloneandsad 11 months ago
Well letting go Kukoc, Artest and Brand wasn't smart at all, but Krause did some good deals. Getting Luc Longley, Rodman etc. And getting Pippen of course.

I grew up watching the Bulls win every year in the 90's but i'm sorry to say this but the sunset on them and all things had to come to an end someday and it did that brief shining moment doesnt last forever, thats life.

krause sorrounded jordan with good players like pippen who he traded for and horace grant.
scottie left because he wanted a max contract and they did it for him in a sign an trade.
echoplex89 1 year ago
Another thing. How much did Krause pay ESPN to do this documentary? That I want to know!
hushg2000 1 year ago

Big ups for Scoop Jackson!

jackson and krause were having a dispute. krause said quote " i dont care if you go 82-0. youre not coming back next season."
BIB10100 1 year ago
okay, my take on this.
for #5: true, krause definitely deserves credit. but i believe he deserves blame, not all, but a part of the blame for the break up.
for #4: i feel for scottie. he was definitely underappreciated. he was a superstar in his own right.
for #3: same as #5.
for #2: same as #5.
for #1: same as #5......

Chris Palmer was talking out of his ass at the end.. Phil left the team before Jordan made a decision, Jordan retired because if Phils departure.

@falkner23 watch jordan on the bus, he explains why he left basketball, it wasnt anything to do with all this stuff, he and his father had a plan of him being a baseball player and when hes dad passed he wanted to do it right away.

Michael Jordan's the reason the Bulls won
brian05fubu 1 year ago
that's bullshit when one of the guy said that krause put the supportive cast around jordan in the 2nd 3peats. jordan clearly was not coming back in 93-94 and the early stage of 94-95 season and the major components of the 96-98 team was there already by early 95.
popeyeisgood 1 year ago
and the bulls were struggling early on in 95 season until jordan showed up. the team wasn't a championship team (was fighting for a playoff spot mid way) until jordan returned to the roster.
popeyeisgood 1 year ago
this video doesn't make much sense at all. If it wasn't krause having problem with the major figures of the team this break up would have been delayed and the immediate effect to the bulls would have been minimized. and tell me how did krause win on his own without mj, pip, and phil glued the team together? the chemistry between them could have been different and krause got lucky getting all the piece for the puzzle, guess you can give him credit on that.
popeyeisgood 1 year ago
and how on earth a normal human being who has a bit of dignity would actually admire a fat ass like krause who is only good at playing the dirty politic behind over a great player like mj or a great coach like phil?
and in a way, the bulls walked away after 3 peat added a lot more to its legacy than if they eventually lose to some team in the playoff. Good run can never last forever anyway and it was such a cool way to end the legacy.
popeyeisgood 1 year ago
@popeyeisgood Read "Blood on the Horns" by Roland Lazenby, a great read.
sopa71479 1 year ago
@popeyeisgood I agree 100% your comments. 2nd part of the video is bullshit.. Jordan Pippen had nothing to do with the team being broken up. It all rests with Jerry Krause and is out of wack ego, after seeing this i believe Phil should take a little blame also, i never knew they offered him to comeback..everything i read or heard was they were done with Phil. But at the end of the day Jerry Krause and Reinsdorf are to blame for this breaking up of a dynasty.. With Krause taking the most blame.

My thing is they all had a hand in building the Dynasty and they all including Michael Jordan had a hand in tearing it down....
