I recall hitch hiking to the new Aurora Arena, in order to catch The Tremeloes live on stage. Their showmanship was truly amazing. If my memory serves me correct, the admission fee was only $10.00 to see The Tremeloes and two other great Canadian bands in action. Can never forget the Shades of Memories, from the Roots of Rock.
Does anyone know who the two band members are that are in the two white suits? They look so alike, they could be twins. I love this song, their harmonies are that good. Nothing like these British Groups of the 60's, which is the era of my teens.
"Pop Goes The Sixties" seemed to be an odd program .. Jimmy Savile and a non-english speaking German presenter. But this is a 1969 appearance. Their 1967 apperance doesnt exist anymore (except for a BBC documentary about TOTP). Too bad, but this is only 2 years later, so not so bad -- and in Color (we all know about the BBC erasing their 60's tapes!).
my mum used to sing this to me when our house of 7 children was so quiet, me youngest lay silent and content listening to her voice. Now that I'm 26 and my parents have passed on, I sing this to my two rascals and it does wonders when it comes to bedtime hehehe
Back In The 1970`s I was in a band playing the notorious north of England Pubs and Clubs that comics hated, as a band we were ok. we played the good stuff spot one and two then some rock and role in the last spot, there will be many who acknowledge this. We knew how to work the northern clubs, Dave Berry was looking for a new band and we became his new band in 1980. Our first gig was on the isle of Man with the Tremelo`s, very strange but brilliant, we were a bit new but we loved it.
the 4Seasons did it better and first...for the life of me, i will never understand how they allowed the Tremoloes to beat them to the charts on this...in fact it was the b side of the 4seasons rag doll-the first song ever to hit #1 after being "pick hit of the week" in the prior week...also how the heck did the 4Seasons allow Odyssey to beat them to the punch with Native New Yorker?

man what a song, grew up with this music wish i was back in those years, those were the years of good music not like nowadays, keep the good music alive................
It's my understanding that this song was originally penned by members of the Four Seasons. They recorded it, but it didn't get the recognition and airtime of this cover by the Tremoloes. Frankly, I prefer the Tremoloes rendition, which may be because this is what I grew up with in high school. The Tremoloes are a great musical group and will always be a popular addition to my 60s music library.
Hey... you're welcome! Chip Hawkes is still performing, and Dave Munden and Rick Westwood are still about. Sadly, Alan Blakely passed away a few years ago. NO-ONE sound s as good as Rick on the falsetto!
They are just a superbly talented group... end of story!
@johnmc58 Your rite about that. Just superbly talented. Gosh is was so great to grow up with the music of the 60's. I guess were dating ourself's now, but who cares. The music is the BEST EVER!!!!!!
Can anyone tell me the names of ALL of the guy's in this video! I know their were some changes threw the years, but these four worked together & sang together so GREAT.
They are clearly lipsynching in this video, that's the studio version playing. But it's still a great song and much better than anything I hear today. I'm 26 but I've listened to this type of music all my life, never could get into modern music much.
@AbbeyRoad52 It's not the studio version I have, did they re-record it? These guys were phenomenal when it came to recreating this song live. Although it does look like they are lip synching (at least the falsetto lead does)
@sandradaga I suppose it could be an older recording of a live version from years earlier too. All I know for sure is that they aren't singing this one live.
@AbbeyRoad52 I thought they were lipsyncing at first---- thus the wide pan shots
but then I heard differences from the original on some vocals and a few other things--though slight-- and saw the guys that were singing their parts I think that was live
Tremeloes one of my fav. They played in our City with lots of English groups ,I was raised with the Best Music from the very start. Thanks for posting All of (Them) ...
"O my God!" Silence is golden! Dad and Mom parked our Trailer per the usual that late July '68 Frdiay. Dad like to get away every weekend after a stressful week at the GM P{lant;. We used the same NW Ohio campground for our weekend escape. The CKLW station was playing "Silence is Golden," as we backed into our weekend space; Towards the end of the song, I got out of our Bonneville, and there was this beautiful 12 year old named Lisa staring at us in the lot next door.
When you take a listen to a song like this you see again and again how nowadays music is a huge pile of crap.... those good old times will never return unfortunately...
@sonnydaytona The music remains forever, it is only the good times that keep it here. Like the sounds of the serf, so too will this music be cherished and kept alive by all who listen, forever and ever.
Back in the day when this song was a hit, I ran to the local supermarket and bought the 45... still love this song and it gets better with age. Thanks for the posting! "D"
All of you folks from the 60's and 70's were so fortunate! I dont hate my generations music, but it couldn't hold a candle to your music! The songs of the 50's 60's and 70's were written by the artist's who performed them, and now musicians have their songs written for them! I grew up listening to this music and I love it all!
@MrAndyg36 Hey mate, thanks for your good feelings for the good old days, but I have to tell you that The Tremeloes never released a self-penned song from their first release in 1962 until 1968, "My Little Lady", the 21st single they cut, which I haven't heard by the way, and there are people around today who write their own stuff; Eddie Vedder and Ben Harper are just two examples. Also have a listen to Calexico and Iron & Wine. They might not be your cup of tea but are good original artists.
@wtw88 Yup! And most artists f that era, singers, i mean, sang whatever their managers told them to. And when a song was succesful, everyone in the same recording company did it as well!
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

Thanks johnmc58 for letting me know their names. I've been looking for some pic's of them (present) but can't find any. Have any sugestions?
jandogg55 4 months ago
@jandogg55
Hey... you're welcome! Chip Hawkes is still performing, and Dave Munden and Rick Westwood are still about. Sadly, Alan Blakely passed away a few years ago. NO-ONE sound s as good as Rick on the falsetto!
They are just a superbly talented group... end of story!
johnmc58 4 months ago
@johnmc58 Your rite about that. Just superbly talented. Gosh is was so great to grow up with the music of the 60's. I guess were dating ourself's now, but who cares. The music is the BEST EVER!!!!!!

They are clearly lipsynching in this video, that's the studio version playing. But it's still a great song and much better than anything I hear today. I'm 26 but I've listened to this type of music all my life, never could get into modern music much.
AbbeyRoad52 4 months ago 14
@AbbeyRoad52 It's not the studio version I have, did they re-record it? These guys were phenomenal when it came to recreating this song live. Although it does look like they are lip synching (at least the falsetto lead does)
sandradaga 3 months ago
@sandradaga I suppose it could be an older recording of a live version from years earlier too. All I know for sure is that they aren't singing this one live.
AbbeyRoad52 3 months ago
@AbbeyRoad52 I thought they were lipsyncing at first---- thus the wide pan shots
but then I heard differences from the original on some vocals and a few other things--though slight-- and saw the guys that were singing their parts I think that was live

Hey if the Four Seasons didn't have enough faith in this song to make it an A-side then it was up to the Trems to prove'm wrong!

MrAndyg36 6 months ago
@MrAndyg36 Hey mate, thanks for your good feelings for the good old days, but I have to tell you that The Tremeloes never released a self-penned song from their first release in 1962 until 1968, "My Little Lady", the 21st single they cut, which I haven't heard by the way, and there are people around today who write their own stuff; Eddie Vedder and Ben Harper are just two examples. Also have a listen to Calexico and Iron & Wine. They might not be your cup of tea but are good original artists.
wtw88 6 months ago
@wtw88 Yup! And most artists f that era, singers, i mean, sang whatever their managers told them to. And when a song was succesful, everyone in the same recording company did it as well!
Laughandsong 6 months ago
@MrAndyg36 Oh, I just looked up "My LIttle Lady". I had heard it. It's just eminently forgettable. I did like the Tremeloes though. Cheers.
