  • Being dragged like that on the non-skid had to hurt. I was in the hangor bay of the nimitz and i tripped and my knee hit the non-skid, peeling off some of my skin. that fricken hurt.

  • Confucius says he who stands in front of blast shield should wonder about the blast.

  • Where was the phantom shitter during all this? lol

  • Comment removed

  • as old as this plane is, I still love it

  • FNG

  • well that was embarrassing.

  • 4 Pilots??!!

    WHY?

  • @Crazyboy123232 There is 1 pilot and the other 3 are running the electronic counter measure electronics. The pod you see under the wing closest to the camera was worth over $1,000,000 in the late 60's early 70's when I was in. I worked on the A6A and A6C but they were all stationed at NAS Whidbey Island for the west coast squadrons. Had a lot of friends who worked on those planes. Some complex stuff.

  • @oldgeezer68

    ah ok thx :D

  • @Crazyboy123232 As you may recall during one of the Gulf Wars in Iraq, they softened up the defenses with 30 something Tomahawks and other cruise missles, then our guys went in and destroyed the radar, SAM's, etc. The EA6B can throw up so much interference to the radars and communications that those elements are totally useless and taken out of the fight. The pilot just flys around, it's the other 3 guys who make that all happen. Another great airplane from the Grummy's.

  • @oldgeezer68 ok thx, Maybe I move to the USA and do a pilot training for the U.S. Navy,

i hope germans can do that :)

  • @Crazyboy123232 Go for it!!! The worst they can do is tell you no.

  • @oldgeezer68

    ok :D

  • So that's what them Navy boy are up to? Lucky, all I get to do is sit on a tank :(

  • is that blast-shield that closes dangerous ? is it hydraulically pulled and lifted ?

  • WEEEE!

  • weeeee!That was cool!

    He's ok, right?

  • The Prowler was the loudest thing I heard when I was on the Kitty Hawk years ago. I remember standing near the waist cats and when one of those things went to full power, it hurt your ears even through ear plugs AND the "ear muffs".

  • @legendofwayne The EA6B was especially noisy with it's ex-cap engines. At $32 megabucks per brand new the Navy didn't want to lose any due to getting fodded on a cat shot. Hence the ex-cap engines were so that it wouldn't go in if it caught a cold cat, or got fodded on the launch. Didn't work, we had one go in. Lost the right front seat. Even my A6A's would make it so you couldn't hear yourself think.

  • I know that this is serious and I hope he is ok but you got to admit it's pretty funny the first time watchin in

  • why do they have to be behind and under the plane during cat launch? Looks like they aren't doing anything. Why be there then?

  • @xLightFilmsx Apparently they are there to check the plane right before launch to make sure there aren't any problems.

  • did that fod that blew over got sucked by the plane or did it land on top?

  • mommy, daddy and the kids. love that bird.

  • Good reflexes.

  • ah the joys of learning to final check. My favorite thing in the world.

  • Just a quick question...what lies below the Jet Blast Deflectors?

  • @thefrecklepuny horrible horrible HORRIBLE things!

  • He got way to close to that backblaster coming down.. when he stopped. The flight line is very unforgiving when playing around like that. Thankyou Navy for being there doing your best. Be safe.

  • i laughed in the weirdest way when i watched this, dumbass didnt even duck :-P

  • @howie98277 Did that guy get in trouble for almost FODing that F18 back there waiting?

  • im a butcher..i have a dangerious line of work...this is a place im not so sure id like to work for a living...ill take my bandsaw and knifes over this :)

  • WWWEEEEEE!!!!!!!

  • Cant believe they still use this plane....its 40 years old.

  • @andgate2000 It's had a ton of updates over the years. It is about to be retired though

  • @howie98277 Yeah... I think they are bringing in the EA-18 Growler. Its just a Super Hornet...

  • @howie98277 and it's ugly like shit

  • @howie98277 Do u know when they're retiring the last squadron?

  • @howie98277 The "Growler" , the Navy needs their cake and eat it too! It can swat airborn flies. :-)

  • @andgate2000 It's being replaced right now by the EA-18.

  • @andgate2000 so is your mum but shes still usable :P

  • @andgate2000 I guess you'd really be floored to know we still use the B-52, huh?

  • @andgate2000 But still good.

  • @andgate2000 Don't forget the F-16 was meant to be abolished over 20 years ago.

  • @andgate2000 It's also still BAD ASS!!

  • @andgate2000 Not for long...

  • @andgate2000 Also, you use aircraft for a long time because of how expensive they are.

  • @andgate2000 No reason to get rid of something that works. It's an EW platform, not a fighter...She doesn't have to be the youngest girl at the dance.

  • why is there a fucking dislike button on youtube? you get mad of people thumbing down super good vids like this!

  • Great video.. Thank you for your service !!! Glad you made it home safe.

  • HAHAAHAH he left him there LOOOOL

  • lol, that's awesome !!! Our boys and girls in the military deserve to have a little fun doing something fun and stupid every now and then :-) Thank you for all that you do so that I may post comments like this and not face the chopping block in some middle eastern country

  • @vpr961 Thanks for the comment. We all appreciate hearing stuff like this. =)

  • @howie98277 Any time, thank you for all that you do, are you currently on a carrier?

  • @vpr961 My time in the Navy came to an end a couple years ago. I did 8 years though. That is me in the video though, the white jersey closest to the camera.

  • @howie98277 That's cool, how many years did you do? I have a friend who's son currently flies F-18s. The Prowler has always been one of my favorite aircraft.

  • @howie98277 Shooters kick ass man!

  • @vpr961 doing such "funny" stuff might also help the newcomers to understand WHY you should do that :)

  • @vpr961 Hahahahaahahahaa!! Believe me! That's not fun! The non-skid on the deck will tear you to pieces! He's ok cause he had gloves.

  • @vpr961 My God only an American could think that comment is ok to say.....

You guys are the biigest terrorists in the world anyway, ignorant twat.

  • @noobrider100 You should also be thanking our military for having the freedom to be a little pussy who is trying to be tough behind a keybord and probably hiding in your moms smelly twat..

  • @vpr961 Exactly what do I have to thank them for? Also how am i trying to be tough? You're ignorant enough to think every Middle Eastern country is some barbaric place, typical retarded American attitude, it's not our fault the only geography you're taught is based within the US.

You give Americans and all other white westerners a bad name, go get an education and actually learn about the world for yourself, rather then watching Fox news while eating a burger...

  • @vpr961 tell "my" air force that

  • @vpr961 +1. It's because of all our service men and women I have what I have. Bless you.

  • Whats the thing that lowers after takeoff?

  • @DocterGoodness It's called a JBD, or jet blast deflector. Kind of does what the name suggests.

  • @howie98277 Oh. Thanks for replying. I might subscribe.

  • no capes!

  • They were just having fun.

  • First of all, the Plane Captain is way to inboard of the Prowler.. You need to be at least to the wing tips at a minimum...

  • @5thgearpinned08 You obviously have never worked on one of these, nor shot it off the flight deck. I routinely stayed in between the speed brakes and outboard stations without any incident. It's when you get closer than the outboard station that it starts to get dangerous. You saying wing tips at a minimum is completely absurd. Thanks for playing though.

  • @howie98277 Actually your right, Never have worked on Prowlers.... I did however shoot S-3's off on the Nimitz, Stennis, Kitty Hawk and the Constellation for 8 years:) I know the exhaust is about as inboard as you can get though.. Just sayin he should have been closer to you than that...

  • @5thgearpinned08 First of all, your a dumb ass. Middle wing section is where I stood and never had an issue. It's called bracing yourself and that plane captain did not.

  • @sidesjeremy How about putting yourself in position so you don't have to BRACE yourself.... The shooter shouldn't even let that PC get the close anyways... JC the effin exhaust is right there...

  • Lol the prowler is such a badass jet. I loved working on those piece of shits lol

  • I'm glad i work on helos.

  • I Think the black flying thing is his mobilephone :D

  • So, are those handholds in the deck? And a couple questions...what purpose does the guy being right behind the plane serve? And why does the second guy stand up and run back when the other is supposed to stay and duck? Is that normal? And I don't get why he is blown back when the plane launches, not before. The engines are spooled up already. Is it because he's close enough that the blast hasn't spread enough to hit him until the jet moves forward a little?

  • @justforever96 White jacket was a flight deck troubleshooter - a guy who launches and recovers jets all day as his primary duty. The Brown jacket was a line rat - a guy who chocks and chains and does dailys, turnarounds, services, and prepares the jet to fly. The white jacket let the brown jacket shoot that jet from WAAAY too far inboard. He's lucky it didnt fling the brown jacket up and over the JBD and hurt him.

  • @justforever96 They guys behind the planes job is to watch the plane. Right before the catapult officer "shooter" gives the launch signal he puts the plane at "attention" thats when the pilot fires up the engines. At that point the pilot cycles through his controls. he moves his flaps, alrons and such. Those guys are watching to make sure all those parts are moving. If they aren't those guys will use hand signals to tell the "Shooter" to suspend the launch. Thats why they are there.

  • was the goggles ok?

  • why the hell are they staying behind the jet???

  • @IronPump89

what difference does it make if you're in front of the deck? when the catapult shoots the plane he'll be behind the plane sooner or later.

  • @IronPump89

what difference does it make if you're in front of the deck? when the catapult shoots the plane he'll be behind the plane sooner or later.

  • @IronPump89 and also the pilot and the catapult shooters are waiting for them to give the "thumbs up" to let them know that they're all ready to go. the catapult shooters might not see them if they were more forward then what they were.

  • What a noob

  • did he get his goggles back ?

  • That was actually not the plane, it was Chuck Norris farting.

  • @allamardesign why always chuck norris? everyone forgot about bruce lee?? :(

  • Chuck norris was flying that plane !

  • The F-18 pilot waiting to get into position is was probebly like, 0_0, than like LOLOLOLOLOLOLO, than like DAMN, THAT FOOL GOT, knocked the hell out!

  • AHAHAHAHAHHAA i cant stop laughing!

    good dialogue btw!

  • Pretty crazy but I can tell the white shirt used his weight and the broad-side of his back expertly to make sure he didn't go flying off. The little one could've done the same lol.

  • You kids quit fooling around out there. Somebody could put an eye out!

  • COOL..........the Prowler is the aircraft that replaced the A3 Skywarrior for VAQ135, the squadron I was with when they were doing tanking and jamming in WestPac

  • if that didnt hurt that would be great fun...

  • Seems like that's a missing Scene in Top Gun. ...or Hot Shots! :D

  • silly navy!

  • "Hey! Let's prank the new guy!"

  • Somebody can explain me what they make ? What is their role behind the plane?

    Thank you

  • @307Tradis They make sure that when that the plane isn't leaking any fuel when the pilot pushes it up to military grade speed.

  • Well damn at least the Rhino behind the catapult didn't ingest the goggles hahah

  • I worked close with F-16's but never as close as the Navy deck crews. Never comfortable watching them work, but glad this guy walked away (and was good for a few laughs too)

  • @scfw41 Yeah, it got kind of hairy sometimes, but those pad-eyes make great handholds. Not that the chain rat used them. If you want real pucker-factor, watch the training vid of a helo tip-striking a guy in the head, then having to walk up to the cockpit while they are turning that night.

  • Nobody told that line rat to hold on!?

  • Been there, done that. It does not feel good as the non-skid deck is very rough. It's sort of like a ceiling plastered with stucco. However this stuff has metal in it. It is used to keep planes from sliding around when the boat rolls about in bad weather.

  • @thybigballs Yup, basically like taking a ride down a slide covered in 10-grit sandpaper.

  • @howie98277 The hell you say. Very funny. Look like SQUADRON personnel from the purpleshirt view. ;)

  • "When do I duck?" "NOW!" LMA-OFF!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow..lucky he didn't get blown into/under that JBD

  • What is the long bent pole on top Of the prOwler's nose?

  • @BlazeOutcast

It's the refueling probe for in-flight refueling. Also referred to as the "donkey dick".

  • @howie98277 Question: Why is it necessary to have personnel that close to the aircraft when it launches? What is their purpose?

  • @howie98277 big donkey...

  • @howie98277 My first station on prowlers and I've never heard "donkey dick" ever. I think your squadron might have been a little fruity.

  • @sidesjeremy Maybe the Navy is a little more politically correct now. I'm sure those 66 likes on that comment are people who know what I'm talking about. Ask any old school AD about it, and I'm sure they will know what I'm talking about too(unless they came from another platform).

  • @BlazeOutcast Refeul probe

  • Combat fod walk down

    !

  • When I was on the USS submarine PROWLER we used to do this all the time ! …

We had a good swim : was fun !…

  • @vincent7520 don't you mean the uss growler sub???

  • @usdiver50 well of course : much more fun when you're 300 ft down …

  • at least it wasnt the F14D. he wudda been in the ocean

  • @P8NTBALL60 I never worked with the Phantoms.... I can only imagine...but I can say the prowlers are nothing to f*** around with... I've got many memories of jet blast as well as from the intruders and the tomcats... get in the middle of those bastards when you're trying to drag a 4 inch fuel hose and you'll know what work is!!!

  • Good thing his goggles didnt get sucked up by the SH.

  • I got this video sent to me by my sup and that's a PC still in training. Still should have known better. But he catches his feet before he hits the JBD.

  • Why not everyone, just get away from the back of the aircraft?

  • lol, nice try, xD, .. ..

  • Thumbs up for captions.

  • I remember those days... and yeah, you have to duck, hold on, and then when you get hit with that second blast you've got to jump up and run with it... otherwise, you're in the way of the next plane.

  • HAHAHHA!

  • Nice piece of FOD for the Hornet. Got lucky the joke did not get you into a hole.

  • Why are they under the rear wings anyway? There right in the way of the jet wash

  • I love how as soon as his goggles come off nobody even pays attention to him. You can just see everyone's eyes following the goggles and thinking FODDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • @beelzbub They need to know where it is because NOTHING can be left on the runway.

  • @beelzbub LMAO!!! SO true.

  • @beelzbub hahah i was thinking the same thing. dont let it get into F18 engine!!!

  • @beelzbub it's ok, he's fod that can pick himself up.

  • Stupid dicks! Always somebody to take after to the sickbay with a jerked knee

  • I love how he just jumped up and didnt even stop moving

  • Was that a PC? If that was I am ashamed! He should have known better than to not hold on. But wow that was funny!!

  • @twintoes2002 He definitely was, and this was the end of a 6 month deployment. You would think he would have known...

  • @howie98277 You would think especially if he was full blown PC and not just a trainee! I was on the flight deck all of 3 months and I knew to hold on! Lol, he probably was soo excited!

  • @howie98277 What is a PC?

  • @dmjokinen A plane captain. Brown shirts. They take care of the planes and see that the aircrew gets to and from the planes on the deck, Things like that. Why a PC would be on a launch I don't know. Not actualy sure that was a PC. At any rate, I use to be a white shirt "cat checker" in Prowler squadrons back in the '80s. We never had PCs on the cats and we held on to padeyes.

  • @brettt777 If he was working on his catapult checker quals, then the PC would have been on the cats and that's probably why he had the Checker behind him. Being part of the RAG, PC's and other shop members would have to fill in sometimes on start ups on the fantail of the boat and/or on the cats. I had my Cat Checker quals before I went to the ordnance shop from the line @ VAQ-129.

  • @howie98277 complacency sir..the mother of all safety reports

  • @howie98277 simple complacency, it's all it is. It doesn't matter if it's your first deployment, or your 20th, anyone can make that kind of mistake.

  • One hand for the boat, one hand for yourself!

  • so what wouldof happened if he got stuck in that door that was closing?

  • Great vid! But WHY IS YOUTUBE COVERING THE LAST 2 SECONDS OF EVERY VIDEO I WATCH (Where most cool stuff happens...) WITH THE NEXT VIDS AVAILABLE!!!!!????!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, that was awesome. Would have sucked, literally, if those goggles would have gotten sucked into an engine tho. Wouldn't have been a good day

  • @TyCarp07 ya except the intake is on the other end of the jet

  • @SuperCariboulou do me a favor and look at the jet waiting to take off. The goggles bounce off of it but thanks for clearing that up tho. Wasn't sure which end was the intake of a jet engine.........

  • fusion dance :D

  • that was on purpose

  • what does a prowler do

  • @IamJacksColon4 Its an electronic warfare and attack aircraft

  • *captain*AIR COMMANDER I WANT A PROWLER ON THE CATAPULT NOW AND HAVE 1 TROUBLESHOOTERS ON READY ALERT!

  • I didn't see him get up and I thought he was pushed under the back!

  • That seems like a ridiculously dangerous job. I don't understand the task at hand for 3-4 guys to be behind a running jet, plz explain.

  • @uTubicular Those guys are safety checkers they check for leaks or anything not normal, especially under partial or full throttle which is a perfect time to check for abnormalities. they generally see what others can't they are usually the ones who do maintenance on the plane. thumbs up says all is well and is now turned over to the crew of the ship to "launch em" because the aircraft and their crew is only attached to the ship temporarily. therefore everyone does their own job to reduce mishaps

  • I swear to god I thought his boot came off or his glove!

  • @JerryLawMartin You aren't far off! It was his goggles that came off and flew over the JBD.

  • @howie98277 Hahaha, I didn't notice that the first time

  • @howie98277 FOD hazard

  • Ouch! That non skid is unforgiving and damn painful to "skid" on. Lol, the stupid crap we do on board when we are bored out of our minds! Man I miss it (not the chow at least) and thank you guys for carrying on the great Navy tradition. Be safe outthere and keep kicking butt! CV-62 and CV-63, a long time ago V-2.

  • OMFG HIS KNEES :o:o hahaha that looked rly fun tho :P i wish canada would invest in a carrier :P do you think america accepts Canadian aviators?

  • Gotta love navy airmen. PS. Do some guys let themselves go just for the fun of it sometimes?

  • @klingonradar Sometimes, though that non-skid can be unforgiving. I did that when we were up off the coast of Alaska, and it had been raining and cold. The deck was slippery, so I got up close, and as soon as the jet started taking off, I turned around and sat down, and the jet exhaust pushed me about 10 feet down the deck while I was sitting. It was a blast. Although, it didn't work as well the second time, and it hurt like hell.

  • @howie98277 What if you get blown into that divot where the blast deflector (oh that's what JBD stands for, isn't it) goes into? You could lose a limb... or the top half of your body, couldn't you?

  • @RADIOACTIVEBUNY Oh yeah, you most definitely could. However, there are people who control those JBD's, so if they were paying attention, then it could be prevented.

  • "Here's what happens when you launch a Prowler but don't hold on."

No, that's what happens when you stand in the wrong place, at the wrong time...

Notice the Shooter, (white jersey just outside of him) No need to hang on, because he's far enough outside of the blast area. The brown shirt (not sure why a PC is on the cat during a launch...? Maybe just getting some OJT...?)

  • @RunningSwimmingMan You can be where the brown shirt was at, you just need to hold on. I am the white shirt behind him, and I normally launched where he was, except I duck down, grab on with one hand, and hold down my cranial with the other. And it was one of our final launch offs, and he wanted to get up and close.

  • @RunningSwimmingMan just a correction mate. The guy on a white shirt aint the shooter hes a mechanic and hes giving tumbs up, not the shoot the prowler off the shooter is on a yellow shirt in front left side of the prowler just getting that info correctly sorry to hurt your bubble.

  • @SDFDFIRE Actually, in the aviation world, he in fact is known as a shooter. It is short for "troubleshooter". Obviously you don't know what you are talking about, so sorry to hurt YOUR bubble.

  • @howie98277 thanks for correcting me lol
