My favorite unsung Looney Tunes directors are Robert McKimson and Art Davis. Their cartoons were well- and carefully-drawn, but still very loose and free. Rebel Rabbit is my favorite Bugs Bunny cartoon, and the scene with the game warden is some of my favorite animation ever, second only to Stromboli in Pinocchio.
Wasn't there a different version of this cartoon? cause I remember seeing both this and another version that was pretty much the same but with a few differences such as a lot of Indians popping up and sayng, "No, no, no, no, no!" when the guard asked if there were Indians around.
@colleen4ever It's right. I saw a number of toons (I don't remember exactly the names) that are "newer" versions of others. There is one where Sylvester sang along in the wall and Porky tries to silence him, there is an original verson from the 30's and a newer one from the 40's. I think some of them were directed by Tex Avery when he worked for WB and the newer versions are directed by Chuck Jones, when Avery was working for MGM. There is a gap of 8 to 10 years between them :)
@barber747 You are right! I didn't remember that! In the "newer" version they used Sylvester, but there was another cat in the old one! There are several toons like that, I saw them a looong time ago, so I don't remember all the details. Thanks! :D
Was Walt disney a racist? Why a Black Duck? When was the last time a Black Duck was seen flying anywhere? Daffy was keeping it REAL when it wasn't popular to do so!
@deepsix7 Yeah okay, I'm sure they were terribly concerned about realistic colors of their cartoon animal people. And this is a warner bros cartoon you silly fuck, disney had nothing to do with it.
By the way, I also love the cartoon called Scalp Trouble. Slightly Daffy is a remake of it. But in Scalp Trouble some jokes seem funnier to me, and we can see good old "chiefy" from Wagon Heels/Injun Trouble in it.
I haven't seen this one since I was knee-high to a junebug. I believe this is the one where somebody mouths "goddamn son-of-a-bitch", isn't it? This is going in my playlist between my "Wagon Heels" clip and "Horse Hare".
One of my earleist daffy & Porky cartoon moments was a commerical for Looney Tune son TV showing clips of this cartoon, precisely, the scenes of Daffy swallowing the bullets and then, whiel he's shooting them out, Porky takes him and uses him as a machine gun. ah, the classcis!
It's "Greetings, gate; let's scalpitate!" - a parody of Jerry Colonna, then-famous comedian, whose catchphrase was "Greetings, gate; let's osculate!" (Not that I'm entirely sure what that means either.)

What exactly does the native warrior say to Porky at 4:36?
trinitymplayers 2 years ago
I would interpret it as "Greetings, Nate! Let's scalpitate." The indian was imitating an old vaudville comedian, Jerry Cologna.
NCTaikoDrumboy 2 years ago
Oops... my bad. The comedian's last name SHOULD have been spelled COLONNA. My bad. My bad...
NCTaikoDrumboy 2 years ago
It's "Greetings, gate; let's scalpitate!" - a parody of Jerry Colonna, then-famous comedian, whose catchphrase was "Greetings, gate; let's osculate!" (Not that I'm entirely sure what that means either.)
