"I Want to Hold Your Hand" is actually a very strange song! It contains no blues roots like most rock songs do. It doesn't contain any roots at all really. It is a completely fresh, rootless creation! It is like the Basque language which has no connection with Indo-Eurpean roots, a language entirely of its own. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is simply Beatles music, it's own genre. It is probably this song that gave the first clue that Lennon and McCartney were geniuses.

@yowzephyr actually i would say that this is song definitely is rooted in English skiffle. It was a genre of music that preceded rock&roll and came after jazz in england around the 50's. It had a large influence on the beatles and many other artists. Jimmy Paige, for example, also came from a skiffle background before he became a session musician
