Man that takes me back, I remember riding a tangara for the first time when I was 7, never liked them from day one, for one as a 7 year old I could never see out of the window on the top deck!
1987 delivery date for the Tangaras? Didn't they come in somewhere around 1993 or 1994? Glad to see the NSW Government is maintaining its usual high standards!
@Bails992 Dear God, I'm amazed that the Tangaras were a mere year behind schedule. I'm amazed they weren't three years late, twice as costly as they should have been and only half as long.
I'm glad they went with the currant Tangara Design to me it's more appealing, although it's getting longer in the tooth (I remember seeing them in preschool since my preschool backed onto the train lines) now out of the intercity and suburbans milenium and Oscars I still prefer the Tangara (heck I'm in the process of making a 2 bedroom house outta one easy and cheap and unique) theres enough internal room to do it just over 40 metre square
Back when our rail system still resembled it came out of a world war! Remember the lack of awnings for the rain, the shitty little blue bins on the platforms, the orange wooden seats like park benches, the lack of paint & colour, & the conning by Neville Wran to fool us all into thinking "we had it good!" Yeah bullshit! Go to Singapore & you'll see "good!"
I think the train shown at the beginning of the film is a K set because all the fiberglass isn't there. The train shown @ Goninan is actually a C set.
The day these new 'C' set trains were introduced in service was a sensational day for Sydneys railways! They were ahead of their time, even for 1986, had some of the best, most classic design & appearance & the architect responsible deserved a gold medal! Beautiful air con. that always worked, superb ride quality, clean & illuminated interior! Fuck, I hope we have them for another 20 years!
c Sets had red and colour back then and they were flat fronted but in 1998 they refurblished them and now they have refurblished it again to yellow the first colour was there because it was staterail then now its cityrail. Nice vid!
Was this the crazy-fake Tangara the government showed off at the Easter Show? Something about the delivery being way behind schedule; but it may have all been a media beat-up.
No mate. You may have seen the tilt train at the Easter Show but I remember seeing the Tangara. Though it wasn't the prototype I don't think - the one I saw was the finished product. And they had a miniature version that you rode around on.
They should have replaced the Old Trains with these.
The C-Sets that is, not their seat-less prototypes lol

@sydnytrainspotter Well you might be right but it says on wikipedia that Tangaras were introduced from 1988-1994.
Bails992 1 year ago
@Bails992 Oh. I thought the last Tangara came out in 1995 because after T sets were G sets.
(Oh, I always listen to wikipedia. :)

Thats correct.

Now I know how to absolutely ruin a C-set. Remove the panels next to the stairs in the vestibule.
