46. MODIFICATION OF SPECIES
"We have now come to the question of the modification of species and of organic development--that is to say, to the point of inquiring whether man's descent is from the animal. This theory has found credence in the minds of some European philosophers..."
Read the first comment below this one and you'll see I not only quoted this, but gave additional information on the matter.
But thanks for taking the opportunity to blame my lack of research on blind faith when your lack of looking at the first comment on the page kept you from seeing it.
The Baha'i Faith is not from Islam. And the Baha'i Faith is from God.
Christ did say in Matthew 7:15, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves," but he also said right after in Matthew 7:16 "Ye shall know them by their fruits."
Then Christ says, "Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.(Matthew 7:17-7:18)
I feel shame that I once held this sort of contempt for religious persons, thinking myself smarter and better than them, belittling their character and intelligence in my ignorance.
And I feel ashamed that I once said identical things about the Bible, a book I had no understanding of whatsoever.
On one level I would agree with you. This is an independent faith, its merit is self-evident. But nonetheless we cannnot deny that His Holiness Muhammad preceeded us, nor the seeds sown by Him and countless Muslims.
The Baha'i Faith is to Islam as the harvest is to the planting. "Ye shall know them by their fruits" indeed, the Baha'i Faith is the strongest proof I have ever seen that the Quran was from the One God, and Muhammad is His Messenger.
Religion, faith and superstition are all irrational. Almost every faithful person inherited religion (yes, you too). If you must believe, then believe in something useful, like science. History shows that religion is the source to most of humanitys Divisions Think independently.
"If religious beliefs and opinions are found contrary to the standards of science, they are mere superstitions and imaginations; for the antithesis of knowledge is ignorance, and the child of ignorance is superstition. Unquestionably there must be agreement between true religion and science. If a question be found contrary to reason, faith and belief in it are impossible, and there is no outcome but wavering and vacillation." `Abdu'l-Bahá
more than 90% of "faithful" believe only because the parents also believe (including you) Claiming harmony of science ans religion is not enough. Nowhere does it elaborate in a rational sense that science is supportive of religion. True science of species starts with Darwin's natural selection. Abdulbaha adresses Darwin as "some European philosopher" . The "seed" example he gives in some answered questions is nothing short of an embarrassing respond
Ormonclark: in a search of the text of Some Answered Questions (and in fact, all the translated works of Abdu'l-Baha) the phrase "Some European Philosopher" returns zero results.
On page 193 he elaborates quite explictly on the change in form over time of humanity, acknowledging that the biological form of a human being has changed over the ages, but states that humanity's physical evolution is not a true change in what species we are, but rather stages of development, like a fetus in the womb
That's what the Baha'i Faith advocates. Yea it's a religion, and yes it requires faith, but it emphasizes the importance of the balance between religion and science. Without religion, science is pure materialism, prone to be useless to society. Without science, religion becomes a heap of superstition, completely irrational. The Baha'i Faith also emphasizes independently investigating the truth.

As for the seed example, I see nothing embarrassing about it. Perhaps you could provide more of a reason why you belittle it so? Consider that in that time the concept of DNA was incredibly obscure, unknown except to the most cutting-edge of scientists, and yet Abdu'l-Baha illustrates here in a comprehensive example that the blueprints and generating mechanisms of the organism (individually and evolutionarily) are contained within. I have yet to understand your contempt towards it.
I read Comments like all of you and try to understand meaning of all this. How to understand some thing that we do not belive. We people of the world need to have a greater belives, one we have achive that then our knowladge will grow then we become a better person. In order to belive in His Holiness BahaUllah we have to belive in all of Gods Prophet and as long as we do not do that then we are lost. This life is the only area that we can obtain it with a greater choice that we have been given.
You know, it is evident to me that you did not read anything I wrote. Fine!! You do not believe in Bahaullah or the Bab. All of us who have commented GET the fact that you are opposed to the Baha'i Faith. The Life of My Savior changes lives. The Hebrews who read the Torah did not accept Jesus, because he did not come like the scripture said.
Are you not aware that I am Christian too? I, too, have a personal relationship with Jesus, The Savior. Brother, the Word instructs us to have love in our hearts for our neighbor. If we have no love, we are but clamoring gongs saying nothing. While you make your point, comedian Bill Maher, an avid Atheist and others are GAINING a foot hold in our public schools. At least the Bahais believe in a God. Brother, with love I say, "WAKE UP".
I beseech thee for forgiveness for saying you were scary. I grossly made an error in using these words. Allow me to humbly apologize for this gross error on my part.
Wow! You are scary. Jesus did say that He will return like a thief in the night. Are you sure you did not miss that? Jesus also referred to the Comforter and leaving the Comforter. It is the Holy Spirit. He left that for all of us whether we believe or not.
Yes, you are right, & being the only Son of God, it's hard to keep a good man down! He has been apparent in the Old Testament over &over again. He appeared in the body of ALL the Prophets as well as in the Prophets of Asia that you have never exposed yourself to nor honored because our dogmatic Christian religious leaders were too greedy, bigoted & afraid to allow their followers to honor other Prophets that CARRIED the Christ &the message for the time &place that these Prophets existed.Praise!
How much do you know about other religions including Baha'i faith?
Yes, Baha'is can READ and comprehend the Holy Word of God in all holy scriptures (including the Bible), and that is one of the reasons that Baha'is have respect for all other religions (including Christianity).
World is far greater than what you see through your narrow scope, and intolerance and fanaticism can make your vision even narrower. When you don't know about other's faith do not insult them please.
Recognizing ALL religions as true is absolutely not true. It is a cause of great problems when one investigates the over 4300 theologies. The very agreeable "similar" comparisons in specific beliefs and disbeliefs, are what enables computability between world populations.
If one looks just at the man-made doctrines and creeds built up around religion, you are right. But when one looks at the original teachings and source texts, there is a remarkable uniformity and compatibility of teachings. The outer forms change, but the essence remains the same. It is hard to see this from an "inside" view, because of mental indoctrination in how the text should be interpreted.
I think it is more important to realize, that rather than actually practicing good teachings; these teachings are used for excuses in many historical instances, for the purpose to commit horrendous atrocities. This goes both for non-theologies and theologies. They do not always practice what they preach. Why even Hitler and mass murderers attended church services while commanding mass murders.
what's the song at the end?

what is the baha'i answer to the question "why believe in God?"
And what does baha'i scripture say about non-baha'is?

So it is not the teachings themselves in question as much as the use and behavior of those claiming adherence to such teachings!
