  • If you stop at :24 seconds you see how far under the ball he is outside of the wrist.... Play to :26 seconds and you'll see he comes off the other side of the ball... That makes revs and turns into hook on the back end. I agree it IS a nice shot. But it is very hard on the wrist and hip to let the ball drop to the outside of the wrist. AKA the hip problem.. Just my 2 cents.

  • wow. he really torques up his body. now i see why his left hip is giving him issues. i bet at times a pinch off balance/dropping his shoulder when he's leaned that far right. age won't help. he's gonna have to adjust his approach if he wants longevity.

  • @templedown His hip is giving him issues because he had that mic thing on it and he fell and landed on it, not because of bowling, his spare release just irritates it because he stands up on it

  • He's throwing it down 10 board in his shot. You should post a vid with him playing inside.

  • I think I saw sparks on the lane....

  • @donniedeuce its an old black u-dot with 500 grit. its drilled offset axis weight for length and back-end

  • Whenever I try the 3 finger curve I can never get the thumb out of the ball or I never get enough spin on it :( anyone got any tips?

  • @Hksportsman A normal three finger drilling hold the ball straight down in the approach before you start and check the tension and tightness of the balls holes you using also check for oil in the holes. Hold the ball lower. Your fingers should do all the work in the forward motion, take your thumb out of the ball or pop the ball up off your hand when coming forward let your fingers throw the ball in motion.

  • omg he creates absolutely insane rotation on the ball.

  • so many flippin revs.

  • Tommy is really good, he revs the ball like a 2 handed bowler would.

  • I think his approach is too fast - he ends up sliding sideways a bit!!! SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!

  • interesting i never noticed that he tucks his pinky

  • @0007123451 i've seen lots of guys doing this... can anyone reply to me and tell me why?

  • @pclown keeps the wrist firm and can increase axis rotation

  • @pclown My bowling coaches used to tell me that it would make the ball push a little farther downlane... Its one of my first adjustments when the lanes start to dry up

  • amazing how many revs he can get on it without even really being under it. thats what being super snappy and clean at the bottom can do for you

  • @Booker435 he is under the ball, with his fingers. it's impossible for his whole hand to be completely under the ball, with your thumb still in it....like jason belmonte who uses both hands and no thumb(who gets a whole lot of revs). if you compare with his spare ball release, his fingers are on top of the ball throughout his swing and release. i do agree though, his release is super snappy and clean.

  • @bownguyen316 obviously hes under it somewhat to rev on it. hes more behind it than anything tho. robert smith is under it

  • @Booker435 The bent elbow also helps add a lot of revs to his ball. You generally need one or the other but very rarely both. Either a cupped wrist to get under the ball or a bent elbow to stay behind it.

  • ive actually bowled on the same lane as tommy jones and i can tell you that seeing him throw the ball in person is unreal. i could only wish i had that kind of delivery. i throw about 17 MPH with a 350-375 rev rate. average is 210 so im not complaining

  • Hey, I was wondering i i could get this video? I'm a lefty and I want to flip it over so I can see it better for my side. Just message and let me know! Thanks!

  • @Methus74 use youtube downloader

  • its hard to believe tommy doesnt have more titles. it just shows how difficult it is to perform on these patterns

  • I reckon the reason he doesn't have more titles is probably due to the fact that he's such an aggressive bowler (in terms of style) compared to the greats like duke & williams. Just my opinion, it's harder to stay consistent when throwing 600+ RPM

  • 600+ RPM?? ha...

  • i agree with both of you...his style doesnt suit the patterns anymore...cheetah is now hooking like it ws before 08-09, but still straight is great in the pros

  • he can play as straight as any other pro (otherwise he wouldn't have won 12 titles), and is very versatile. remember, he's been on tour for less than 10 years.

jason belmonte and robert smith and jones and all of the exempt power players on tour throw more consistently than most of us ever will.

  • good lord what was the first ball in the video?? looked like an old black angle with 220 grit on it lol if somebody knows, please fill me in

  • I think it just might have been the black angle. I know for sure it was a urethane ball.

  • ya they all had urethane balls becuz of the drier lanes they have over seas....the short pattern, i heard while at the Earl Anthony was like they never oiled

  • it would of been for the short pattern...

tommy would of had to use ebonite.... so i'm guessing ebonite had a couple of tubo x's or whatever that ball...

unless he was aloud to use other brands for the short??

  • well the turbo x's were a deep blue, almost a purple. that ball looks like a sanded urethane of some sort

  • could be a black turbo. that was a sand urethane ball back in the day.

  • true, good call. hard to tell tho, cant see any lettering on the ball

  • I was there, and saw him walking about with a turbo X yeh!

  • @donniedeuce Who cares what ball people use kid...

  • @TheBrassHole i just found it amusing that with todays technology involved in bowling equipment, tommy jones would be throwing an olllld urethane ball, unless of course he was using it to break down the pattern. was your comment really needed? or did you just feel like being "that guy"? i mean why would you care that i was curious of what he was throwing?

  • @donniedeuce Omg shut up about people's equipment poser... And stop typing whole blogs, it makes you look even more generic.

  • @TheBrassHole lol poser? what is this 1993? and as far as equipment goes, i know what im talkin about. good try on the insult tho. why do you have such an issue with it?

  • @donniedeuce Again, what do you care about people's equipment? GROW UP.

  • @TheBrassHole grow up? man youre the one who had a problem in the first place.....and I need to grow up? i was just curious about tommys ball choice. you were just being an asshole with your lil "who cares" highschool loser bullshit. what do you care if i wanted to know what ball it was? you still havent answered that question, why do you have an issue with it?

  • @donniedeuce What's with the blogs nerd? Seriously, are you subscribed to bowling magazines? LOL! Hey kid go bother someone that actually cares what you think.

  • @TheBrassHole uhm...again, YOU are the one that started this nonsense you idiot. oh, and here's a shocker....you still havent explained your issue with my original post. and really, nerd? cmon man...weak.

  • @donniedeuce Um... no. You started this... You were the "idiot" that asked what kind of ball some one uses. Idiot? cmon man...weak.

  • @TheBrassHole what difference does that make to you? i didnt ask you that question. YOU started in on me even though my question had NOTHING to do with you. i wasnt trying to be an ass, you obviously were. so again, i ask you, what was your issue with it? and how does that make me an idiot?

  • @donniedeuce You addressed your question to "somebody"... Am I a bot? NO... But all joking aside, what do you care about what balls people throw?

  • @TheBrassHole and that topic was discussed, with other people that obviously had curiousity in what ball it was too. so why dont you rheem all of them out too? i dont care THAT he was throwing it, i just wanted to know WHAT he was throwing. again, i was curious because its such an old ball, and its strange to see a modern pro throwing old tech. thats my reason, what dont you get?? whats your reason for having an issue? still havent tackled that one there buddy....

  • @donniedeuce "A modern pro throwing old tech."... That is your problem.

  • @TheBrassHole lol what is your point here? how is that my problem? you obviously arent a bowler, and if you are, u dont care to learn about the game. theres alot to learn by watching, asking questions, learning from others. tommys one of the best out there. god forbid i ask a question about something he does on the lanes. yea, i must have a problem. maybe i should resort to randomly posting ignorant moronic comments on video postings like you. then ill be one of the cool kids.

  • @donniedeuce Care to learn? From you? You're asking what balls people use. And BTW, I have seen you bowl, there is nothing I could learn from you except bad habbits and a bad additude. There are 50 kids just like you in every house. You are old news.

  • @TheBrassHole never said anything about learning from me, my style isnt textbook, but i get the job done. i said i wanted to learn from bowlers like tommy jones. and you obviously cant read or youd know and understand why i was asking what ball it was. and besides that video, where have you seen me bowl? i have a feeling im not gonna get an answer to that one either..

  • @donniedeuce Why do you want to learn from tommy jones?

  • @TheBrassHole tommy is the complete bowler. he can play straight, he can boom it gutter to gutter. ive seen the man play up the 2 board, switch lanes in a pba tournament and move to 6th arrow and pound the pocket. he has power, yet he is smooth and controlled, accurate, stable. but its not just him, i study and learn from all the guys on tour, tommy just happend to be in that video. oh, and he drops his shoulder too. along with sean rash, wes mallot, walter ray, parker bohn, and norm duke.

  • @donniedeuce But I mean, do you like him?

  • @donniedeuce Your profile says you're almost 30 years old, but you're trying to e-mail me bowling scores? WHAT! LOL!!!! Get life fast dude. OH NO! I SAID "get a life", I guess you will be e-mailing me what you do for a living now.... HAHAHHA!

  • @TheBrassHole no, im making sure you know that i know what im talkin about. i have stuff to back me up. you? nah, didnt think so. you dont know what youre talkin about on here. see what you dont get is that your lil highschool insults are exactly that. meaningless, highschool insults. and after all, ur the one that decided to be the dickhead....and I NEED to get a life? no matter how hard you try to flip this around, it doesnt work. you end up looking like a bigger idiot every time.

  • @donniedeuce It's way too EZ to get in your head. I don't know if you have low self esteem or what, but you are almost 30 years old, and you are emailing people bowling scores? HAHAHA!!!! Do you carry pictures of yourself in your wallet? LOL Stop crying already, you are owned. Like I stated earlier, unsubscribe to your bowling magazines. Your mentallity is that of a 6 year old. wow And stop worrying about what equipment people use.

  • @TheBrassHole nah man, thats the diff between you and me. you think youre top shit because you talk all this shit, yet hide behind the anonmity and security of a computer screen. i put myself and my info out there...meaning i have shit that backs up what i say. you dont. youre a coward man. and you keep playin that self esteem almost 30 bowling scores card...get some new material man. i could give a shit who knows what ive done. all it does is legitimize what i say. u dont have that.

  • @donniedeuce You havn't proved anything. And the only thing you have backed up is what I have exposed you to be, a 27 year old asking what balls people use. That is ALL you are. And that is ALL you have proved yourself to be.

  • @TheBrassHole lol omg noooooo! my life is ruined, my reputation tarnished! you have exposed me as a student of the game, and as everybody knows, thats absolutely the worst thing a person can be...willing to learn from others. thank you for your stern ballbreaking, for i can see clearly now. :( im going to go shoot myself now. goodbye cruel world...

  • @TheBrassHole you must be one of those lonely people with no lives, living in mommy and daddys basement masturbating to internet porn for 15 hours straight, taking breaks every 10 minutes just to be a prick and start with people by posting moronic comments on video postings. i mean really, what are you, like 12? your argument is weak and since you wont validate it with a reason, im done. good luck with your pissing fest there turbo, u need it.

  • @donniedeuce Relax kid. You're the only one with the problem. I mean, if you can't tell us why you care about what balls people use, then don't take it out on me...

  • @TheBrassHole lol man ive explained it to you like 4 times. and this "us" crap....nobody else needed an explanation. it doesnt need one, everybody else just understood where i was going with the question, decided to be constructive, and tried to figure it out. you decided to be a dickhead, then not explain your reasoning. as an accomplished bowler, im always curious to see what other bowlers are throwing on diff oil conditions. that any clearer for you?

  • How about a late timing :D

  • He is so smooth for how much power and revs he has.

  • @awsomecool123456789 That's what she said. LOL!!! On a serious note, I agree with ya. I'm trying time after time to perfomr such a clean and powerful release but it's tough. I just got to keep grinding it.

  • Hard core rep

pls i want to see robert smith release !!

  • He did all these videos at the World Championships in Bangkok, Robert wasn't there because he isn't on Team USA.
