the moment with the room shifting after Kain pulled the sword out of Raziel made me shit my pants it was spine shivering the background music to that moment didn't help so, i found that horrifyingly epic.
To get it straight; there is no real order of the games because the storytelling and timeline is overlapping. If you watch a real timeline then you find every single game more than once in it. But it´s not about chronological order it´s about the storytelling order and that would be BO, BO 2, SR, SR 2 and Defiance. But BO 2 is more fun if you know about SR 1 + 2. :))
@linikratyo That's how the game realease story goes, but the timelined events have a different order. Let's take into perspective the events following events in the timeline (not the game release storyline order): BO, SR2, Defiance, BO2, SR.
@linikratyo That's how the game release story goes, but the time-lined events have a different order. Let's take into perspective the events following events in the timeline (not the game release storyline order): BO, SR2, Defiance, BO2, SR.
@rippler7 yes but you follow the characters, not the timeline, otherwise it would be: SR2, BO, SR2, Defiance, BO, SR2, BO, Defiance, SR2, BO2, SR. Now that doesn't make sense now does it? So play it storywise(BO, SR, SR2, (BO2,) Defiance) and not timeline-wise.
@linikratyo I never encouraged anyone to play in the event-timeline order, but merely explained how the story spans and how the whole story is laid out in a timeline view and compared the order with the game release order. Of course you play it according to the release. I don't think it would require much thought about this, simple logic.
@linikratyo I will repeat what I said, I am only showing how the timeline goes. Of course it doesn't make sense if you look at the titles only. The key here is to get to understand how everything comes into place. Hence I showed you how all the games relate to each other in a standard timeline. I'm not sure if you could grasp this thought, probably mind-blown you. The game release order is how you actually play it of course, there's no arguing there.
only thing i didnt like bout legacy of kain was killing all tha brothers for tha most part they were really cool, regardless still my favorite game series they need to make the series again for the 360 and ps3
@rboeger blood omen 2 was caused because Raziel brought Janos back to life in LoK: Defiance. Janos is possessed by the Hylden Lord, who would then use him to start the invasion of Nosgoth, which would culminate into the events of Blood Omen 2. At one point, he imprisoned Janos inside the Device, so that he could feed the machine.
@cjjtheone I doubt a Legacy of Kain movie would be better then Lord of the Rings, but it would be quite amazing. You have to remember that all of our fantasy up until this point is in one way inspired by LotR. DnD was reportedly directly inspired by LotR, and if you play the original Blood Omen, it's a lot like a DnD game with Vampires and a better plot. Without LotR, DnD might not exist, and thus, Legacy of Kain as well.
@futureechoes1 Oh my Elder God, yes! D8 I would so love to see Legacy of Kain vampires go up against the Twilight bunch, just to see them get smeared so terribly into the ground!
Did anyone notice the Ouroboros mark on the floor? In case someone can't tell the irony, the Ouroboros is the symbol of eternity and also, as in this case, Birth, Death and Rebirth. It's both poetic and hilarious!
Kain should have pulled out the sword out of Raziel faster, so that Raziel wouldn't be too much depleted. Now that he's in the spirit realm, he will never get back to life.
i stil hope that the ending part of the series is stil coming the end conclusion,but im more hoping fore 5-10 years from now a mindblowing ending then a quick fixed crap game in 1-2 years,but ya am al fore remakes of blood omen 1 and soulreaver 1
the gameplay in soulreaver 1 was better but the story in 2 was way better then in 1,i like it when a story goes in so manny circles that u exualy need to realy think al the details out to come together in the end:)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Soul Reaver 1 was soo much better than this crappy ass sequel, and as much as I hate to say it, the ending to this sucked really bad. If there were to do a Soul Reaver 3, they'd definetly have to do better than this
To me, the two strongest parts of this game have always been the dialogue and the storyline. This was back when graphics weren't that strong, so it was the strength of the story that drove the game. Now-a-days though, you have games like Borderlands that have no story whatsoever, and only gameplay driving them.
I remember finishing this game and I have no fucking idea what is going on.
Anyway, I jus wish they could make another Soul Reaver only Raziel in his regular vampire so he is drinking blood not souls plus has his fully formed wings that looked so cool in that opening FMV of Soul Reaver 1.
Say, PS3/360 may even be able to render the game to that FMV quality for in game.
@Treblaine Actually, when Defiance came out, it didn't have any difference in FMV or Gameplay graphics because the way they did the graphics for it was pretty amazing at the time. It was almost as good as the FMV. So it's very possible to have them make a Soul Reaver 2 FMV-quality game in the new graphics engines.
The problem is getting them to make another game in the series. Fans have been screaming for more for years, but nothing's come of it. We almost got one but it was never finished.
At the start of the first one, when that deap voiced tenticle thing pulls you out of the abyse, he also pulls your soul out of the wheel of fait, so no matter what happens, you soul will never return to the wheel and you will never die :D Hence, when you die in the game, you go to the spectrel realm rather than the ater life... Well, they're the same, but you know what i mean ^^;
Raziel has been thrown in the abyss by his "vampire brethren". Here in the past of Nosgoth he kills the humans who will be subsequently revived as these vampires by Kain. Including his former self.
In short: Raziel makes it possible that Kain creates his vampire sons from the corpses of the Serafan and seals his own execution.
Ah, Jenos. This hard for me, as I've only played the first game and watched the seconds walkthrough ^^; I think (AKA: Don't know) that he forged the Soul Reaver blade before Raziels soul was trapped in it. He was also hated by the humans, but I can't remember much else about the guy. Maybe someone who's played all 3 (Or 5 including Blood Omen) could tell you ^^;
I'm afraid I don't, but if you hunt around for long enough on Youtube, you'll probably find someone with a walkthrough on all 5. If you do, ask them nicely :) The game kind of spirals and loops over itself, so you'll probably end up having half the game descibed to you before the answer becomes clear ^^;
When Kain refuses to sacrifice, the bariere that kept the Hylden out of the Nosgoth weakens, and one of them manages to pass trough. That one posseses Janos Odrin, and with his power and energy, he brings other Hylden to Nosgoth. He calls himself Sarafan Lord, and wages a war in which vampires almost became extinct (his plan was also to eliminate humans and to leave Nosgoth to his kind).
Kain defeats then in Blood Omen 2, which happens few centuries after BO1.
@lakefury Janos must stay dead because if Raziel brings him back as he plans to do, then he will be possessed by the Hylden Lord and cause even more bad things to happen in the future.
In Defiance, it's revealed that Janos can be brought to life by having his heart restored. His body is in a tomb in Vorador's mansion, and Kain tries to stop Raziel from bringing him back, because doing so sets in motion the events in Blood Omen 2. That's what Kain "remembered" for the first time here.
They did that because you had to keep the Soul Reaver and could not go into the spectral realm because then the Soul Reaver would manifest itself again. Which would create a paradox since Raziel has to kill all of them with the Blood Reaver so their souls are not reaved or consumed by Raziel and returned to the wheel of fate
The Soul Reaver series was built up similar to an adventure game. It never gives you a game over, it just sends you to a place that you were at previously. In the case of the first game it takes you back to the Elder God's lair and in the second a pillar that you passed by.
I think they figured that going in, fighting off like 6 enemies with no chance of being able to heal would have been way to hard for the player at once and would be to frustrating. The last part of the game was hard enough.
True. But think about it, you have the soul reaver which is a weapon. But you face these enemies in groups of two without the chance of consuming their souls. Most players going through that would get a gameover screen shortly after the first fight. The AI in Soulreaver 2 makes it very easy for them to gang up on you and take out a lot of your health. Which does happen during these battles. (Especially the first one. Both enemies always attack me from the front and behind)
This is also true however, this makes little difference after one realizes that they can't beat you. As a matter of fact they can't even hurt you. In this case the flaws of the game designed as an action game come to the surface. I feel it would have better been handled as a puzzle. You must A. get two to kill one another or B. get them to make a mistake that would allow for an instant kill. Even having the event be cinematic would have been a better choice IMHO.
Tony Jay voiced a LOT of voices in Legacy of Kain. He voiced Mortanius in Blood omen, the Elder god, Zephon and a few others. Though his death caused many to lose hope in another Legacy of Kain. Since he voiced a character in every LOK game
History hates something that does not belong in it's time stream. It rejects something which exists in that moment but it's not supposed to so it does something to get rid of that anomaly in any way it could because something like that should never have existed at that moment.
Paradox is something that cannot be, some people may have diferent meanings for Paradox but that is the most simple explanation. so History abhors a paradox means that History does not accept soemthing that cannot be, like Kain not sacfrificing himself AND the pillars be restored at the same time, it cannot be, but the reaver is the key to make it so... ofc I cannot explain any further since no more games have been made that can explain any further...
hehe :P yeah this game has the best story I have ever seen in any game, I really want the continuation, hope EIDOS continues with the game... it's just so awesome :P
You are wrong, LOK always leaves the story open, and it is not smart to claim that Kain's destiny can not be changed. If Raziel's death was neccessary, it doesn't imlies Kain's is to. Quite the opposite. You have seen the Defiance...
