  • Thank you for this video. My father served on this ship from 1951 to 1955. My father died in 1999 at age 69. He kept very quiet about his 4 year experience on the ship and even my mother knows very little except that his close friend died during a refueling mission when a fuel line burst and killed his friend. His name was George Hase, the same as mine. Thank you again for posting this video. God Bless.

  • During WW II, the late actor Jack Lemmon served in the Naval Reserve and was the communications officer on the USS Lake Champlain.

  • This video was taken after the Champ's Korean cruise on the return trip from Yokosuka to Mayport, sometime between late October 1953 and early December 1953.

  • cool, my grandfather served on that ship during the korean conflict. this is the first and only video i've found of that ship. thank you for posting this.

  • When I was on the Mt Mac and the USS Guadalcanal LPH-7 you sure didn't want to get caught on deck without your hat and it had better be the right one for the uniform of the day. I spotted at least one guy without a hat. He must be a snipe, huh? lol

  • Thanks for the video. I was wondering about those Dixie Cups. I hated having to wear a hat at sea..They kept blowing over the side!

Fair Winds from an old skivvy waver.

  • I got carried away adding sound effects but thought my fellow former sailors might get a kick out of hearing the nostalgic sounds, even if they weren't all appropriate. The original video had no audio at all.
