Thank you for this video. My father served on this ship from 1951 to 1955. My father died in 1999 at age 69. He kept very quiet about his 4 year experience on the ship and even my mother knows very little except that his close friend died during a refueling mission when a fuel line burst and killed his friend. His name was George Hase, the same as mine. Thank you again for posting this video. God Bless.

This video was taken after the Champ's Korean cruise on the return trip from Yokosuka to Mayport, sometime between late October 1953 and early December 1953.

When I was on the Mt Mac and the USS Guadalcanal LPH-7 you sure didn't want to get caught on deck without your hat and it had better be the right one for the uniform of the day. I spotted at least one guy without a hat. He must be a snipe, huh? lol
