All he wants is for people to say thanks and then leave him alone. For all those who do interviews with Bob - do your homework before you interview him and if you don't just call in sick.
Its funny, one would say that he's acting irrationally or rudely, but he is simply reacting the way a good, humble human being would, and should. I have so much respect for Bob Dylan because he cared about nothing but to get his best music out and to play it for those who wanted to listen. A great man indeed.
@heldinahtmlhell what i was referring to was his taking the press and interviewers too seriously and being argumentative as to what they thought of his being the "voice" of the generation.i wasn't referring to his taking the music that seriously. in watching other artists being interviewed, when stupid questions are asked, they usually shrug it off and make it clear they just wanna move along with the interview. he probably wasn't too far off with the "song and dance man" comment.
@tomcaat1 From most of the videos I've seen he does the very opposite of taking it too seriously, he laughs things off and makes jokes. In the one video here, he was in 1966 on the verge of a breakdown with drugs, fame etc, which is why he was wired.
what if people we're always asking indepth questions about you and your personality....you be "what?"....ummm can i think about that....or just go and get something to eat without analyzing my entire life
I would've loved to interview Dylan. These guys can't get anything out of him, I woulda torn him apart. He probably would've walked out on me, but not before I got some wild quotes out of him.
Does anyone know if and where the full song of this video's version of It's Alright Ma exists? It sounds different from the live versions I've been able to find.
Music is really nice to listen, and to make, you kinda free yourself with it. it's art. Now there's nothing more stupid then people constantly coming up to you and asking: "What do you mean by this? and by this?" also, music genres can be quite disturbing. Some songs don't have to be listed as Rock and roll, Folk or whatever, most of the time its just music, sure it is nice to have an indication before you listen to it, but remember: an indication is all it is.
it seemed to bother him quite a bit, the image some people had and made of him. he did get pretty argumentative when he might have shrugged it off. he was young, and the mistake he made was taking it all too seriously i think. c'mon bob, the beatles didn't sing about the times changing, etc. he is and was a great artist, and yeah if he's a prophet to you, so be it. we tend to forget he was just a young man that wrote that stuff, and perhaps his views were well intentioned but naive. ^..^
@tomcaat1 HE took it too seriously? I think he was the only one who didn't, that's what pissed him off.. Seriously. The baying press, the booing fans, the phoney folkies and the grovelling government handing out awards in the hope of favour etc etc. Dylan's always said 'it's just fucking music' (I'm paraphrasing).
by the way, the media is all about "stupid questions". the public in general is why alot of these interviewers ask the dumb questions, the public wants to know. for that, we're really to blame. for the most part, if you see a "good" interviewer, you might eventually notice that they just know how to ask the "dumb questions" more inteligently> hehe
i don't know, all i can say is i'd have hated to be an interviewer back then, haha. but its true , they were trying to pin something on the guy, and for that i could understand his frustration. i don't know for sure, but i doubt bob was turning down the money, he should'a realized it came with the territory, especially signing some kid's autograph. bob made the mistake of arguing with the media all the time, instead of just making the best out of it, or NO comment.
@evilfinchman Absolutely true! There you see the situation we were living in, in those days, the media point of view, the establishment, staus quo... That's what the consciousness revolution was all about and Dylan was a major player, maybe THE major player, doing his part magnificently.
I always liked his music from the first day i heard him in 1965 ( I bought highway 61 revisited ) then bought all of his LP's back from that .I thought he was a great writer and singer .But after hearing this interview I like him even better even better !!!!! He really did what everyone should do with these journalist ,tell them to piss off!! we like his music because we like it ,and their interpretation or opinion is worthless to us . Thanks Bob !!! good for you !! keep up great work . Bob M

@bloozintro fuck all that i don't care about his name he's a poet and a musician. Art is no smoke and mirrors, you get what you see/hear. If someone wants to imitate him that's his problem. Dylan was never some kind of political leader so the problems people and society have now and had back then are not his. He's just doing his thing and that's what he tried to explain so hard to the media.

He's not a whiny douche or an introvert it's just he didn't like answering stupid questions like "where does your music come from?" or "Do you care what you sing about?" What the fuck do you mean by "Do you care what you sing about." Of course he cares that's why he wrote it and performing it.
@bleunt He didn't want to be labeled, whats wrong with that? I get called emo, yet i listen to Bob Dylan, does that make me whiny? Cause i deny being emo?
@GeoffWilde Then I wonder why he did everything in his power to be labeled a douche. No one forced him to have press conferences and interviews. He chose to do them, just so he could be a douche.
@bleunt Not always, this is just him responding to public questions - most of them banal. Listen to his music and words - I was blown away by the poetry in those clips of him, just a young 23 year old singing with a guitar, jesus, the imagery is astounding. Absolutely fucking astounding. It's tripping off his tongue. People study the words at Oxford and they get fucked to it smoking weed......it's artistic genius.
So yeah, we can let him off being a cock in most interviews I reckon.

I feel bad for him, having to deal with the masses... all these cool, interesting creative people end up a little bit like jesus, having to deal with multitudes of fans and a public persona that isn't really 'them'
@AsaZolle I challenge you to write an analytical essay to the song "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" and then make the same assessment. Few people strive to be impolite or rude to others, let alone people of compassion like singer-songwriting poets. I imagine you're this hostile because a) you haven't bothered to dedicate the proper time or consideration to the man's work or b) you don't have the mental fortitude, imagination or reciprocal compassion to appreciate it. That's the real drag.
@AlowiciousG Wow! You make such assumptions about me. Not even Dylan would have been so bold as to base his opinion of somebody on 13 words. Good luck to you my friend.
Just some dude who writes genius music, and he probably just wished these asshole reporters would have a real-ass conversation with him human to human.
love how he stright out tell reporters he dosnt understand their stupid questions i mean if he were to give that information to the reporter, in any way how would that be beneficial to his life or anyone elses?! seriously juust wasting breath..
i love it too. the interviews are made at landvetter in gothenburg, Sweden. and not all swedish reporters are as stupid as that. But they created classic dylan quotes. like.. is there a difference between you now and the sixties? Bob.. u know.. It's all love for Bobby
I'm italian and I didn't understand all perfectly, but one thing is sure for me: HE is anything that we expect he could be... And it's rare, especially today...
@LiberalBuster Calm down, it's music. You probably disagree. Whatever. Go be creepy and obsessive to the point of insufferable annoyance about it elsewhere; not where fans of his are watching. Sorry if you think you're better. Sorry that your OPINION is that Bob Dylan "can't sing and can't write". My opinion is that he most certainly CAN sing, and he sure as hell CAN write. I think it's lovely. You think it's crap. Get over it and figure out music before you hurt yourself.
@LiberalBuster I'm trying to decide if you are ten years old, or a disaffected, basement-dwelling, unemployed roofer, or you're just jealous that he got to bed Raquel Welch.
If Dylan took political positions, I would understand your rants, but he doesn't. He got some bad press when he did Live Aid in Africa and finished up by wondering aloud if some of the money raised for Africa that week could be channeled to American farmers. That started Farm Aid. That is the extent of his politics.
Bob Dylan has worked hard to just live a life without identifying with any particular cause. He clearly just wants to sing and enjoy his family and live as normal a life as possible. Yet, he is constantly considered prophetic and he always challenges this assumption. The only thing I have heard him stick with is that he does seem to have a deeply felt religious conviction. Some of the youtube comments can get so disturbed that it gives me a good idea of the creepiness he has to tolerate.
@LiberalBuster So, he can't sing and he can't write, those are your claims. Wheres your evidence? Can you write better then he can, can you sing better then he can? Can you convey your emotions and demeanor through song? What would your example of talent be?
Yes, I kiss my mother with those profanity filled lips. Because she's civil, logical enough to realize they're just words. Fuck, shit. They're words and they have a purpose and a place, i'm sorry if i bruised your delicate ears.
@MSgtGRiM Why bother lurking around Bob Dylan you tube videos if you have such disdain for him? It seems obsessive and weird. Does he represent liberals to you? He takes no political stance and stood up Obama for dinner. Is it his religion? He is a Reform Jew, which means he believes in the teachings of Christ. He's been clear about that for years. Is it is his Jewishness that bothers you? Did you have a girlfriend who was a Dylan fan who dumped you? It seems personal with you. Spooky, really.
His attitude just shows his supreme genius back then. Like a mathematician who tells you how easy high math is, and why are you making such a fuss over it.
You've got to love the way he always turns it round on the press for asking stupid, boring, pointless questions and exposing them for what they are fakes, dummies and puppets, just a line of clones with no intelligence or understanding. He probably hears the same questions over and over and when the press twist your words or try to play mind games then Bob is just playing them at their own game and destroying them! There not even on the same level as him in intelligence or wit! Fools
Hi i'm 15 and I just love to make myself look good and post my age on music that is TIMELESS. Please give me thumbs up because i'm a big attention whore. Thanks guys!!!!Oh and also thumbs up please!!!!
@vpevickytori Wonderful to know he is still making an impact on the new generation - I'm a 16 year old guy and have been listening to Bob since I can remember
I don't think I've seen someone so filled with sorrow as I have at 6:00. I don't know if it was a personal issue at the time, or a reflection on the past, or what, but that there was pretty raw
@theshingles100 He could've easily talked about any other thing - the state of his breakfast toast perhaps. The interview was going to happen anyway, so might as well be honest. Your dumb comment reminds me of the ppl that are like "dude rage against the machine, are way off cuz they're part of the machine Maaaaaan." So then they might as well not say what they wanna? Like a rollin' bone!!
@hoopydu i'm not trying to put down bob dylan i'm a huge fan i'm just sayin it's ironic how the media is basically exploiting his dislike for the media
@theshingles100 He never said he didn't want publicity, he just didn't like being asked questions. He just wanted to play music, besides that he said he didn't care what happened
@theshingles100 i think its his songs he doesnt want publicized, you will find theyre difficult to find on youtube.... I reckon would like the fact this video of him shutting down idiots is being publicized.

Bob gives really quick straight forward answers.. not a bad thing..
He is the exact opposite of Noel Gallagher who gives his opinion in thorough detail about everything..

his singing voice is hauntingly beautiful and sucks you in to the song and forces you to figure out what he means

Theres only one thing to say about Dylan: He gets it.
mrcannabis94 11 months ago
Just some dude who writes genius music, and he probably just wished these asshole reporters would have a real-ass conversation with him human to human.
Froebs 11 months ago
Dylan's just an observer...all he ever was, watched and recorded his interpretation of what he saw. He wasn't protesting anything.

i love it too. the interviews are made at landvetter in gothenburg, Sweden. and not all swedish reporters are as stupid as that. But they created classic dylan quotes. like.. is there a difference between you now and the sixties? Bob.. u know.. It's all love for Bobby

I find it hard to square the Bob Dylan I see in these interviews with the Bob Dylan who purportedly wrote The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll.
It's like he's embarrassed by his sentiments.

Get over it and figure out music before you hurt yourself.
flyingwiththefish 1 year ago
@LiberalBuster I'm trying to decide if you are ten years old, or a disaffected, basement-dwelling, unemployed roofer, or you're just jealous that he got to bed Raquel Welch.
If Dylan took political positions, I would understand your rants, but he doesn't. He got some bad press when he did Live Aid in Africa and finished up by wondering aloud if some of the money raised for Africa that week could be channeled to American farmers. That started Farm Aid. That is the extent of his politics.
nestorian9 1 year ago
Bob Dylan has worked hard to just live a life without identifying with any particular cause. He clearly just wants to sing and enjoy his family and live as normal a life as possible. Yet, he is constantly considered prophetic and he always challenges this assumption. The only thing I have heard him stick with is that he does seem to have a deeply felt religious conviction. Some of the youtube comments can get so disturbed that it gives me a good idea of the creepiness he has to tolerate.
nestorian9 1 year ago
@LiberalBuster So, he can't sing and he can't write, those are your claims. Wheres your evidence? Can you write better then he can, can you sing better then he can? Can you convey your emotions and demeanor through song? What would your example of talent be?
Yes, I kiss my mother with those profanity filled lips. Because she's civil, logical enough to realize they're just words. Fuck, shit. They're words and they have a purpose and a place, i'm sorry if i bruised your delicate ears.
MSgtGRiM 1 year ago
@MSgtGRiM Why bother lurking around Bob Dylan you tube videos if you have such disdain for him? It seems obsessive and weird. Does he represent liberals to you? He takes no political stance and stood up Obama for dinner. Is it his religion? He is a Reform Jew, which means he believes in the teachings of Christ. He's been clear about that for years. Is it is his Jewishness that bothers you? Did you have a girlfriend who was a Dylan fan who dumped you? It seems personal with you. Spooky, really.

His attitude just shows his supreme genius back then. Like a mathematician who tells you how easy high math is, and why are you making such a fuss over it.

rangerbsh 1 year ago 26
You've got to love the way he always turns it round on the press for asking stupid, boring, pointless questions and exposing them for what they are fakes, dummies and puppets, just a line of clones with no intelligence or understanding. He probably hears the same questions over and over and when the press twist your words or try to play mind games then Bob is just playing them at their own game and destroying them! There not even on the same level as him in intelligence or wit! Fools

its funny how this video is about how dylan doesnt want the publicity and yet thats exactly what the video is giving him
theshingles100 1 year ago 27
@theshingles100 He could've easily talked about any other thing - the state of his breakfast toast perhaps. The interview was going to happen anyway, so might as well be honest. Your dumb comment reminds me of the ppl that are like "dude rage against the machine, are way off cuz they're part of the machine Maaaaaan." So then they might as well not say what they wanna? Like a rollin' bone!!

Dylan is amazing... it's sad how the reporter's don't even try to understand him
all they do is just bombard him with questions. not to mention they distorted his statements (fact).
They should be luck he gave them the time of day.
