at the time of movie steroids had been available to the public for over 20 years and promoted as health tonic for underdeveloped/malnourished, were rife in sports,no health warnings, bans, presidents, dictators, the entertainment industry, military, police, fireman, labourers, etc and it wasn't an offence to us them.
steve reeves, alan steel, brad harris, gordon scott , and other natural muscleman of their time-.great actors movies, films, and workout guys, no creatine, hydrocut, steroids, etc ....garbage ....
supposedly Mr. steve reeves was to be the samson in samson and delilah instead of my childhood hero victor mature -- how would his movie career have been different if he had starred in a major movie before 1959?
Totally agree! He was a natural, not plastic and fake looking like bodybuilders today. And he had that mystery- not that "I don't have a thought in my head" aura you get from other muscular actors.
When i first saw this film some years ago, i looked up on IMDB to find out who played the voluptuous beauty Queen Oomphala seen at the start of the film. She was a spanish actress named Sylvia Lopez, & i was astonished to learn that she died the same year that this film was released in 1959, from leukaemia. SCARY!!! You never know when your number is up.
If Jesus gives you freedom, you certanly are free. Jesus Christ broken the chains of the sin. Jesus can do us a new creatures. Only we need open the heart and invite Jesus like Saviour and Lord
Jay doesnt have much fat. If bodybuilding is to keep the classic look, yet have bigger dudes- we need 6' 7'' dudes. I'm looking forword to that:) Arnold is the best bodybuilder of all time in my opion.
BBers are already 1 in a million genetically. To have the perfect BBer proportions at 6'7" you'd be 1 in a million -of- the 1 in a million: 6'5" Ferrigno couldn't win: His height messed with his proportions. Big guys like this are impressive standing alone, but when they're next to truly perfect Olympians they have a relatively "straight up and down" look. For the perfect taper at 6'7", you'd need shoulders 28" across, and weigh 350lbs shredded. Unlikely, ever.
Reeves was 6'1" 215lbs, more like 200 even when not competing. Plenty of guys are this height and weight, but with a 36" waist. Reeves had a 29" waist!, along with a "Perfect Triple" 18 1/2" : Upper arms, calves, and neck. Modern BBers don't weight 215 unless they're 5'5". Cutler is what 5'9", 270?, He probably walks around at 300. The modern dudes are cows.
Steve Reeves looks MUCH bigger on film then in photographs. Its like what Art Jones said that the old greats like Reeves, Grimick looked huge in person and that photos of them did not compare
Bello!!! MITICO

why did they kill the man at the beginning?
cndmo 3 years ago 2
The queen would use her man till she grew tired of him and/or got a new one. THE NEW one on the stretcher... What a way to go..

Then she would have them taxidermied and pose them in a room like trophies.

Steve Reeves was the greatest. He was a natural who achieved what he achieved through hard work and discipline - not through steroids.
God rest his soul!

Steve was made for this role. He wasn't bulky like today's bodybuilder. He was just the right size with a little bit of mystery.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:17)
Maybe you should follow his example ;)

Because Reeves is standing next to regular people. Grimeck was more of a power lifter than Reeves, who was a symmetrical bodybuilder
