your photos are fantastic ! What photoshop are you using exactly and how can you bulb RAW format into JPEG, to save its quality and for sharing in FACEBOOK for example ! So if you can, please answer me ! GOOD LUCK !
very nice video! I was just shooting one session in poppy fields early in the morning, but had many difficulties with settings, too bright, too dark, too many shadows on model's face even though it was 6 in the morning, sun was already very agresive and also the redness of poppies sometimes was too intense.. any suggestions on settings when shooting in these conditions? i do not think you mentioned any of those in the video, like aperture, ISO, exposure.. i just heard shutter speed:)

Wonderful videos and beautiful photos. I've been searching for a way to achieve the colors that you have in your photos but I can't find anything. Could you explain what's involved with your photo editing a bit? I know that's sort of like asking the magician for the secret but I could use the help. I have tried using adjustment layers and playing with saturation but it generally looks too fake. Thanks.
Gavin, i am having trouble capturing the "intense" colors as of the image @ 3:25, now is the lens to blame for that or my being a noob ? I have seen exceptional images with the exact equipment as mine ... has your image at 3:25 had any post processing done .. any specific settings i should be looking at e.g white balance .. i shoot with a canon 550D, mostly in Av or Tv mode, but just don't get good colors. Any tips would be appreciated. Stunning pictures and pretty helpful videos by the way.
I have a canon 550d too. The quality of your pictures depends way more on the lighting than the equipment. Therefore you can only take great looking pictures when the light is right. As seen in this example it's a good idea to have a flash gun so you can make the right light yourself. The colors in the pictures are also something that creates great looking images. For instance a red or green color tone will usually make the image look better and more interesting than a grey color tone

Hi Gavin, I find all of your videos most helpful. Thanks for taking the time. One question... Which month was it when you took these, I want to make a note in my diary to hunt down that field this year. I am based in Horsham so its quite local for me.
Gavin, the photo at 3:25 in your video shows a beautifull background blur behind your lovely daughter. Is that pure because of the large aperture or did that take any post processing?
Done in camera using f4. Many of the images are also on Flickr, there's a link in the video info. Flickr shows all the Exif data which you might find helpful.
@PhotoGavin The fact you show the EXIF data is incredibly helpful. I am noticing that I personally shoot a little too wide an aperture, especially after being able to view your exif data. Thank you very much! I'm learning a lot.
@PhotoGavin Unfortunately there are no exif data on flickr for the pictures of this video. Or do I need to have an account at flickr to see the exif data of your pictures?

Hi, thanks for this amazing video. What I wanted to ask is what basic editing you used in photoshop after this session. I like the colour tone that you gave to these photos. hope that someone can help me.
hi gavin!! nice pictures but I have one question may sound stupid but I'm new with photography why went you take your pictures you don't use any flash? I watch some other videos were they say always use a flash even if you taking pictures outside! can you explain how that work (using flash) thanks for you help
the darker area in the upper right/left and sides of your photos are due to the camera setting or through phtotoshop? it made your photos very dramatic. thanks
hi Gavin, wonderful works..how do you make your photos a little darker yet nice detail, is it in the camera setting (what particular setting) or is it edited in photoshop. i find it very dramatic when its not too bright. thanks.
It's funny how BBoreq and oreoboy here comes to sites like these, leaves negative comments yet they don't have any videos or photos to show their own works.... why can't you just be thankful that someone is actually taking time to teach. Better yet, why not make your own vid?
A few weeks ago I got my very first digital camera. My cousin who is a pro photographer taught me a lot of the tricks in a day. It's really not that hard. All the pictures you see in this video I can take and so can you. It won't even take you a day to learn how to set the F# (Aperture) to take these photos. Let me know if you need help. If your camera allows you to set your own aperture you can take these photos. You can never take such photos on auto mode.
few years ago while taking a photography class we went to a poppy field to take photos, places like this are uncommon around here. Divided in two groups, mine on the field and the other on top of a hill the photoshoot began. After few minutes the teacher started yelling at us from up the hill, without realizing it we destroy half the field with our walking and stepping on the flowers, it was a popular field among photographer and we ruin it!!! Something to keep in mind :-)
Fabulous photos Gavin, this video inspired me to look for a field of Poppies for myself, found one, though not as impressive as this one, got some lovely shots. Thanks for the tips.
another great video Gavin, where exactly is this field?(wonder if there's any in the North-West of England ...I didn't know you were on flickr I just added you, hope that's OK
Really nice work, Gavin! Love the editing style too, really warm, glowy. I'm curious to know how that lens captured the reds, seems like Canon lenses don't do well with reds. Mine are usually too saturated and hence detail gets lost... Care to comment? Also, which camera do you have again? Also nice shots with your daughter... initially I thought this would be a portrait video, it'd be great if you did one of those in that field.... Going to check your flickr now! :) Have a great day!
Nice video But may I ask about the colours as most of the stills look dark and have a very Yellow feel to them apart from the ones with the sky in the back, on my calibrated monitor
I have been trying to find a field like this in Devon No luck
