its quite hard for me to stay on because i have a welsh section a that i'm re-breaking and i've 5ft5-6, i have to use no stirrups because otherwise the stirrups are too short. but i'm going to try this method, but i have a feeling that he'll just bolt off with me because he's part stallion, VERY green, and 8 years old. or i'll just get my test dummy friend to try on him;)
How to stop a horse from bucking....figure out why theyre bucking...not using some silly tricks or gadgets to stop it. Have saddle fit checked, have bit checked, make sure the rider is in balance and not hanging on the mouth, make sure the horse is not in pain in any other way. This horse is acting like its in pain not like it's fresh. That side walking is them avoiding going forward. Fresh horses don't oblige to moving.
@hyperfocus2011 its not that bad, that horse looks like a good doer, you can feed good doers as little as possible, fit grazing muzzles, double net hay and i can guarentee the horse will still look overweight lol
The saddle looks very far forward to me,and the rider's hands high.I think building muscle through long reining would improve this horse 100%,plus a diet to lose weight.
@chelackie you hold the horses head high so that they cant put their head between their knees and buck you to kingdom come ;) it's pretty much the first thing you are told to do when a horse bucks XD
However i have to echo the comment about the saddle. It is truly appalling,it clearly dosn't fit ,and is far ,far to small for the lady owners bottom .she appears to be filling the whole seat and her backside is right the way to the back of the saddle. Also the saddle is too far forward to start with and certainly ends up on the horses shoulder .Not very comfy for horse or rider!
@sigridandbilly My pony does that!, but the other way round with him if i am strict he bucks, but he is better than usual if I'm not strict he thinks he can get away with anything. You horse will be able to sense your nerveseventually you'll hit a place where you completely forget about your nerves and decide that it doesn't matter what happens, but your going to get your horse to listen andthe thing to do until then is speed up the process, ride more, be confident and try and put yourself ...
@sigridandbilly ... in your horses shoes, find out what is wrong with it and why he's behaving like he is, If it's just naughtiness then you need to put him in his place and show him who's boss, so he respects you, not forcefully, but more mentally. Dont scare him, but make him know that your in charge.
and if he does buck keep circling him in short tight circles that way he cant buck :D Hope that helped! It's harder than it sounds so just persever and most importantly end on your note not his!
@RoflPmslLmao He's pretty much pushing the horse forward so he can't buck, When a horse is bucking, most people try to stop them, when really, it's better to keep them moving forward and move his feet
@RoflPmslLmao Hes not just pushing the horse forward (I read this article). When she bucks she has to push her shoulder out to set herself up for it, because her ultimate aim is to unbalance the rider enough that she can drop out of canter. What he is doing is re-aligning her, bringing her shoulder back in and under herself then pushing her forward to get a clean, buck free transition.

The easiest way to get this horse to stop bucking is to get a fitting saddle

@Juneaziz Agreed. Her butt is spilling over the cantle big time. That wouldn't help the situation at all.
