I won this album from a radio station back in '68... It was and still is a really good album.. Love to pull it out and listen to it once in awhile... Thanks for posting this!!!!
I remember Doctor Schlochmans powder of persuasion, Gems Spa and who woulda thunk it " PAY TV" and a couple years later watching Richard Lee and Neil Young get into a catfight about who would make a better looking Jesus for Neil's movie.
Luther Rix. Live and learn, in 1970 I went on tour as a roadie with Buzzy Linhart, the drummer was Luther Rix and I didn't make the conection for some reason what a shame. Great drummer with a great list of bands behind him. How long had he been with The Group Image? Here I had known Luther twice and didn't realize it, must have been those 60's that lead into the 70's that weren't much clearer really. Who know's, maybe some of you guy's might remember me.
As a kid growing up in the city I remember we used to go to this place called Palm Gardens all the time. The Group Image was like the house band. It was a wild place, some of my best memories came out of that place and from that band, the singer was beautiful. We were all young and having a blast. Anyone else remember that place?
i fell to the gorn in tears as i was told he killed himself, jumped off a buiding, i am so sorry for his family, he was a wonderfuul loving personl i never beleived that he killed himnself, someine said that people came up to rob the and paul went up to catch them and they pushed him, we will never know, but arty said at his funeral he saw paul get up and walk away, i wil try to be more informative as i do this interview and finifsh my book, thank you so much for getting in touch i crying now,,,
i still have this album...i aquired it in 7th grade 1983...it was my friends...supposedly his half brother was william guy merrill...wgm's real last name was Rainer
@giantjunior69 to continue paul ws also scared insecure, he was so young, the older people who ran the corporation were theones that handled the money, we had none, all we had was the love of our nusic and eanchother, the shows once a week paid for whatever little we got. as i am working on an interview right now on the group image i am finding out more info shocked to see
@giantjunior69 when i went on google and google sheila darla i couldnt believe it was everywhere, not only that but under a new label, i have been searching and trying to talk to someone at fallout records and no reply., someone had to steal the masters to make them into cds, the whole thing is so sad as we were so great and had the scene in new york did the cover of time mag, the band broke up on the road because the treaser was on a flashback and gave someone else the check
not from new jersey, nyc. we had a huge commune in the city. we played with soft white underbelly, ritchie havens, wind in the willows elephants memory so many and of course the greatful dead. doug bass player went to play with country joe, ricky went to ca,. too and played with loose gravel, sheila went to ca. and played with many bands including the tubes, arty and sheila still friends, ran out of recrods, we had our own label, band fell apart, paul was murdered in the village at nineteen.
Yeah, the video is a gas. What a great lead singer they had. The video also has a noticeably different mix of the song, as compared to the original single version.
One of the great finds of my record collecting career. Around 1986, I found a decent but not great copy in a $1 bin. I was just getting into Sixties/Psych stuff and this was a great unknown LP. I misplaced it somewhere along the way, so thanks for posting this. Yes, they are quite Jeff. Airplane derivative but still really worthwhile listening. A bit of "Bosstown Sound" feeling in there too. Good rare Sixties stuff.
If anyone wants to see this band in action, check out the video posted of "Heyyyaa." These two songs are great but they don't really do the band justice. Here they just sound like another Jefferson Airplane influenced group. The video of "Heyyyaa" will turn your head inside out!
The dude who uploaded it purposely spelled it wrong, for, reasons let's just say. He spelled it "GROUiP EMAGE-HEEYYAA 1969" Be sure to select the "watch in high quality" below the screen. Clears the picture up quite a bit! If you still can't find it I'll send it to ya. It's a blast!

Marty's still around, Ducky's gone too. Uncle Ray is around
but a bit far away.
I used to think of these guys as a far out west side band.
The loft was a long way from 6th street and avenue D.
