Great video! Nice to see well-designed music room and wall display. I've yet to find the aluminum frames under $15 each. I'm considering just mounting long pieces of wood moulding on the wall that I can slide the LP covers into. I saw a huge wall of LP covers done this way at Atomic Records in Burbank, CA. I think there display is about 24 LPs across by 12 LPs tall. Cool way to display 288 LP covers!
@HunterMann - Thanks for watching and commenting! I've also seen that done and it can look really good. The only thing that I didn't like about that method is that the albums would lean, albeit slightly. Warping in warm weather might be a concern in that case, especially if the albums didn't get changed frequently. On the plus side, though, setting them on a "shelf" would make it much easier to change covers more frequently than if they were in individual frames.
@EoLoVoX The one I've seen kept the LPs very vertical and it was not done on an outside wall so unlikely for heat or moisture to get through the wall. By the way, cool that you played a song called April 5th, the day I was born.
If I try the wood moulding method, I'm going to use very thin stock so that the bottom and top of LP covers will not be reduced visually. Great collection you have!!
@HunterMann - Thanks for the kind words! Feel free to subscribe if you're not already. (Don't feel obligated, though.) Check your inbox. I just sent you something that might be of interest...
@DoctorDeadwax - It is indeed! BIG Waterboys fan here, hence my comment on the video where you showed one of their concert t-shirts. Nice to find another fan of theirs in the VC!
I noticed that modern day dubstep vinyl comes in tons of really crazy and cool vinyl artwork :) Its one of the ways I've gotten into vinyl so late... the fact that a lot of company's still release vinyl as the primary release.
I always give thumbs up (how can one not if you're a collector, enthusiast of the hobby) on these threads because you took the time to share and explain your reasoning for your choices etc. Besides I just enjoy as a fellow collector.
@GalaxyRover1020 - Thanks! I'm definitely an enthusiast! Sounds like you are too. I'm disappointed in the picture quality of this video, though. I've got to find a video camera that performs better in low-light conditions!
I see the Colour of Spring album next to the pole lamp in the video, i really liked Talk Talk's Colour of Spring & Its My Life album, but when they released Spirit of Eden i thought to myself 'this is genius'.
@CollectorOfMusic - You know it! Like you, I was a Talk Talk fan before Spirit of Eden but, when that came out, it just blew me away. Genius is right. It's interesting how you can hear them moving in that direction on The Colour of Spring with songs like "April 5th" (playing in this video) and "Chameleon Day." Thanks for watching! Good to hear from another Talk Talk fan!
Really good to see and hear from you, Rob, and I love your room every bit as much as I did when I first saw it (twenty-odd months ago, I believe?) I love how much you love your music, and your music art. The world's a puzzling place but I get where you're at every time :)
@gandster65 - Thanks Pete! I find myself retreating to the music room as often as possible these days, possibly as a reaction to how "puzzling" (very diplomatic) the world seems to be getting. I'd love to share the room and music with you some day. When are they going to invent a transporter?
Very nice job. I am planning on doing the same thing on a basement addition that was done a few years ago. It almost looks like you have the album shelves built into the wall? Sort of like the albums are not sticking out but inlaid. Whatever way you did it, it came out to be the perfect record/music room cave. One more thing: I did not see any Zeppelin or covers by The Smiths in your frames? Thats the one thing that would make it completely awesome. Great video. Rob/Boston
@Paneeks1960 - Thanks! Rest assured, Zeppelin has not been forgotten. When I took all these albums covers down and replaced them, Led Zep IV was one that went up with the new crop. I also plan to do a video soon involving several Zeppelin album covers. By the way, it must have been the camera angle that made the record shelves look inlaid. My dad and I built all three free-standing cabinets a few year ago, around the time we finished the addition. Thanks for watching!

@TheGoodChap - I didn't know that. I wonder if that's an indication as to how many DJs still prefer to spin vinyl.

Which Talk Talk album are you listening to? VERY nice spot you did, I even caught myself responding back to you a couple times!
