I'm still sad at the core about 1992. The judging was jive. With today's rules he would have had the gold he deserved. Victor made an error which would not stand up to the reformed rules. (Love Victor, too, of course.)
I've loved Paul's classic style—by the book, and done so beautifully. Best Russian splits : Robin Cousins and Paul Wylie.
Well, I may have to head for North Carolina now to see him skate (if he's still there.) Such a decent, kind man, from all appearances. Really, that's the most important thing; his exceptional skating abilities are the icing on the cake. I'm guessing he'd rank the importance of things in the same way.
I always liked Paul. He seemed like a real nice guy, and I was thrilled he finally medaled at the Olympics. I'm glad he went on to have a successful life after skating. What's sad about some athletes is they don't know where to go once the spotlight's no longer shining straight on them; they can't adjust to having a normal life.
I love paul wylie i know him he skates at the extreme ice center in north carolina with me all my friends take lessons from him but my mom doesnt want me to take from 2 coaches so but i did jump classes with him hes awesome and such a great skater
@Figureskater1123 Paul was a great technical and artistic skater. So glad you know him! I watched so many years of his competitive and professional skating; I always respected his skating, but of course I don't know what he is like as a person. BUT YOU KNOW HIM, and I'm not surprised to hear that he is a really awesome person. Good luck with your skating, and please let all of us "Tubers know how you are doing.
I thought he was in law school back in 92. And I heard he had coached Jeremy Abbott.
I wish I had caught his commentating on ESPN!
