Search youtube for "Hinnemann, classical dressage" and watch him beat the crap out of a TB. Seems like the kind that intimidates the horse to get what he wants...
I think it's not funny- it's stupid that this man rides such an amazing horse without knowing it obviously and shows flying changes seconds after sitting on it, but can't control it...?!
@Queenofdollzz I don't agree with you, since the horse obviously is sometimes nervous of all the crowding around the arena. Every horse can get nervous from that. And maybe that man doesn't really know the horse well, while he knows the technique of letting the horse do flying changes.
Just saying though, it could be different, and I don't know the man, neither the horse or it's original rider/trainer.
i have to say, that guy did a great job teaching the horse who is boss, but did he really need to have been so heavy handed? and did the guy really have to be so (or appeared to be) rough on the horses mouth, I mean the bit is already pretty harsh on its own (look up the differences between western-another harsh bit- and dressage), but adding a heavy hand?
lol i dont care who he is, he had the horse confused for a bit...if he doesnt KNOW the horse, who is an individual being who might not be familiar with this guy...a horse isn't always a hop on, push go and he goes....
If I could hop on a such a well trained horse and ride that well off i'd be the happiest person in the world. I couldn't even get my trainers grad prix horse to canter when I first roder her for a warm up five years ago, much to my trainer's amusement. Now I consider myself a decent rider, but I'm still not to the level of this man, or my trainer. Beautiful horse too.
it doesnt matter whether he is a famous dressage rider or not, in my opinion his hand is way too hard, he is pulling the horses mouth constantly. i train my horses very light-handed and the results you get from gentle training are much better though it takes longer to reach your goals.
idk if its the horse thats confused or the rider. but i really think its the rider! and when you ment funny. i hope u were talking about the rider! lol he doesnt know what he doing! i ride western and i still know that he doesnt know what to do!! lol but the horse is pretty and very good!
loll. it looks like the guys skipping as the horse changes leads . xD i bet he was thinking "Sunshine lollipops and, Rainbows everything thats wonderful is what i feel when, were together" haha
I think that this was an incredible ride by Hinneman. Imagine, at a clinic, he gets on a horse he probably doesn't know, an extremely well schooled horse. The horse recognizes that Hinneman CAN ride, so he immediately goes to work. Hinneman actually does a good job recognizing that the horse is obedient on the straight lines and tries to stick with this. They eventually work together. I love when he drops his whip! I love this video and laugh about it all the time!
Not overall terrible no. You can tell he's the type of rider who knows his bussiness and can tel lyou exactly what to do on the ground but hasn't spent quite as much time (atleast recently) in the saddle. Horses like these too are not easy rides and he did a good job. When you get in the saddle, a lot of instincts take over and when you haven't ridden in a while it's hard to control those intincts.
I've been in that situation, thankfully not in the competing arena though! Poor guy, that canter was not so hot, what was with the horse, I know, sometimes it's the rider's fault, but sometimes horses have off days to!
?? that wasnt funny... the horse wasnt angry... he was just doing his job, he might just be a touch/cue sensitive horse and very good one at that, they just had to figure out how to work together and it was just taking them a while.. also G-O @jmdnarri :) so true
Also, this video isn't funny, its downright incredible. The horse is SELF COLLECTED, responsive, and has gorgeous movement. If you think this animal is at all confused you don't know anything. This is obviously a spirited horse that knows its stuff and it would take a pretty bad rider to confuse it. Most bad riders the horse would probably sigh at and think "you don't know what your doing." People do some research before you comment! Your showing your ignorance.
I don't know a lot about dressage and I can see what the idiots here apparently can't see and only jmdnarri knows what they are talking about in these comments. Those flying lead changes were gorgeous. There was a little discussion about dominance at the start but the rider soon had that horse in hand, and what a superbly trained and athletic animal! The communication between the horse and his rider is exquisite and if you all can't see the beauty here your dumber then dirt.
@sparkler72 :D <3 <3 most agreed. the horse wasnt angry and he looked to be amazingly responsive / sensitive to cues. T.T i can only wish to ride a horse like that
haha thats funny!! he doesnt know anything about dressage!! he like kicked to do lead changes everytime that poor horse is probably like wtf? im doing a different move every 2 seconds! help get this man off of me!! haha lol
@ForTheLoveOfHorses95 he wasnt kicking he was shifting his leg to comand the horse to change the lead. its what professionals do but he exajurated the movements a little bit more than them
UHHHH can you guys NOT see how tense he is in his arms?!?!?! I would rear too if I was the horse - and no, I don't care what anyone says, this man is not a great rider. This is disgusting....poor horse.
I would too, and he is tense everywhere else. My horse would have done the same thing! He needs to go back to riding school, and maybe find someone who knows what they're talking about!!!!
I can't see what's so funny about this video and I don't know why some people come along and say this man could not ride. The way he sits is great and he manages to ride difficult lessons on a horse like this. This horse has some great movings and even though it's nervous, I can't see it's having pain. The new rider may be a strange and new situation but he managed it greatly
He has an incredible seat, and the horse went just beautifully for him a few times! Pretty impressive considering this was the first time he ever rode this horse (?).
This is a highly sensitive and athletic horse, and as previously stated, it's full of energy! Lets not forget that high energy is a desired trait with any high performance animal. A horse like that is going to react differently to any new rider that gets on it.
If this guy was a bad rider, this ride would have gone way worse!
this pretty much proves that its not as easy as it looks. i do IDA (im in college), and we only have 10 minutes to warm up and figure our horses buttons out, and then go ride the test. for him to able to get on a high-strung, highly trained horse without any warm up and get two times AND one times out of him is incredible.
Beautiful horse, amazingly calm & steady ride from Johan Hinneman. Shows why he is one of the greats. Love how he pats the horse after the last line of tempi changes. I would have been cleaning dirt out of my teeth for days if I'd been in the saddle...
PS - this trainer/coach was teased for many months after riding this frisky horse, and the rider also joked that he made sure the horse was very, very frisky and well rested, LOL. His balance is not 'offal' (learn to spell) - anyone else would have hit the dirt on the first jump. He has excellent balance. He has trained more world class horses and riders to the Olympic level than anyone here criticizing him.
This man is one of the greatest riders who ever lived. He's riding calmly on a very frisky, fit horse. It's amazing to get on and ride in street clothes, without boots, and ride in such a noisy area on an unfamiliar horse - he still gets some pretty incredile work out of the horse under the circumstances. Shows is that it takes time for even the best to familiarize w/ horse. They are not 'single changes', they are 'tempe changes to one' or 'one time changes' - change every stride.
how can anyone who knows anything about dressage say this is a bad rider?!?!
The guy was getting Single changes from the horse. I don't care how well the horse is trained, if you are not an expert rider you don't get that from any horse!!
looks to me like the horse was wired up and the rider was still able to keep him in hand and get single changes from a fiesty horse!! That takes more skill than most riders will ever have
no..the horse is very well trained..the rider needs a crap load of work..the horse was being confused by the guy jumping all of the plce on the saddle..
Do you know anything about Dressage? Do you know what single changes are and how hard they are to get even from a horse that is trained for them?
Watch the video again... he is asking the horse to do a lead change EVERY STRIDE that is one of the hardest movements in dressage.
Google : Johan Hinneman The man you are saying "needs a crap load of work" has probably forgotten more about training horses that you and I know combined!
You are 100% correct. That is Hinneman in street clothes. He is a great rider doing 2's and 1's. Yes the horse is fractious, but the situation is extremely difficult.
Most of these pundants wouldn't know an FEI movement if it kicked them in the butt.
@jmdnarri I'm in Dressage to and your vary right!! he is giving the horse commands and he dose not even know it! my horse is in 4th level dressage and i know my stuff and this guy needs some training lol
@ilovemyperchron1997 you mis-read my comment. John Hinneman (man on the horse) is one of the most accomplished dressage riders in the world He knows exactly what he is doing, and you or I would be lucky to have him teach us a few things. He is getting on someone elses horse for the first time and they are "feeling each other out" I deal with this a lot in my training. Just because the horse is a little over-reactive for the first minute, doesn't mean he is not riding it correctly.
@jmdnarri I respect your insight. You are so right about first rides. And that remarkable horse has some kind of work ethic! I watch this video all the time. I'd rather watch it than ANYTHING ELSE!!!
Excellent display I do enjoy seeing the masters ride and be able to calm a horse that in less experienced hands would have bolted. The horse came back beautifully to soft aids, commendable riding to give the horse stablity and assurance in an environment it was obviously unsure of.
A friend in Australia who has Olympic quality dressage horses shared with me that often the international competition horses are right on the edge of blowing up. They are very spirited.and the extreme stimulus of the environment adds to it all. The horse in question is clearly very talented and well trained. Mr. Hinneman handled the shying, spinning and balking with obvious expertise. When he had the horse's attention it was great. He is a trainer of gold medallists.
WOW!!!! I really feel sorry for this horse!!! This guy- WhoEver he is a Big Fat Jerk!!!! That horse is doing everything he is asking - even though the guy has NO Idea What that Might Be!!!! Not FUNNY!!!! His balance is Offal And He is in that Poor Horses Mouth!!!! Totally Wrong!!!!!
sorry but that guy is crap- I've seen many bad riders able to stay on a horse while it moved around like that. this guys hands are louder than heavy metal...his seat is garbage. The horse- NICE!! I feel bad for it. NOT FUNNY.
That, looks like the equivalent of putting a toddler into the cockpit of a finely tuned jet. I have to say, his aids look so clumsy that it's bloody amazing the horse didn't just dump him. A good rider starts with subtle signals and works their way up, not the other way around!
"confused" is not my word for the horse; far too simplistic.
have to see what was before he rode the horse.
great video.
thanks 4 sharing.
can you add notes about what went on b4 he rode the horse?
i 'm not sure, but i doubt that's a green horse. experts don't have green horses do work requiring a more developed physique. that's a great way to lame or sour a horse.
a horse up to changes on each stride=not green. just having "issues".
He is top caliber! He is riding a green horse for the first time and doing 1-tempies at the canter COLD! You can train for 10 years and not be able to do that......nothing funny about the video, this guy is among the best in the world.
Whom are you referring to? the Man Or Horse?? The Man is Green- The Horse NOT so much!!! Beautiful horse and great Balance only a better rider on him would have done justice!!!!!
hmm...im sue that whoever this is, hes a competent rider. but i dunno, it looked like he was making some rather amatuer mistakes with his hands/body. and he looked a tad big for the horse. but then again, that could just be me
Interesting all the comments about him not being able to ride - He's the chef d'Equipe of the German National Dressage team, and they seem to do rather well, for you Americans, thats in Europe! Oh and a couple of your riders such as Mary Ann Grant think him good enough to travel to Germany - Thats slightly left of Texas by the way, to train under him. Is that good enough for you!
For those judgementals out there, we don't know what he was having to deal with while on that horse. If you weren't the one on the horse's back, how do you know what that man was riding? You cant look at a horse like this and assume the guy is the one upsetting him. It could be the crown or he could be a stud or green in new places. He is a warmblood, he is spooky. Stop dissing this guy. Its only one ride on a horse that isn't even his.
Ha ha not at all...I was just so annoyed by some of the comments that came from people who didn't appear to have a clue what they were talking about! The point I was trying to get accross is that he is a world renowned Dressage trainer, who apart from training the German national team, also trains a number of international riders, from the US and several European countries, despite the contrary views of a number of obviously more experienced and talented riders commenting here (sarcasm!!)
Naw, the horse was just feeling fresh probably. He settled in nicely during the changes. I wish we could have video from before he got on just to see how the horse behaved then. However, the fact that he got on means the horse was probably not behaving or doing what was asked. If anything the horse was more frustrated before he got on then he was during the changes.
The guy obviously knows how to ride, he's out there doing tempis, stuff most of us only dream of doing haha. I guessing the horse didn't like his style of riding as every rider rides differently.
In response to all the negative and downright rude comments on here I have to wonder why it is that all the greatest, most gifted and wisest riders are always onlookers rather than actually riding. This is not an isolated occurance and I'm quite frankly tired of that kind of behaviour. Smarten up, people! :(
lol this is what happens when you put someone who bearly knows how to ride on a dressage horse. they just have so many buttons you can confuse them. this has happened to me before.
seeing as he is doing tempis on him, I think he knows how to ride, lol, he's just not wearing the apparel. We don't know how the horse did with the previous rider.....
This was a young and very nervous horse. The reason he kept bolting and spinning was because of the crowd/environment. His riding looks horrible because he's overexaggerating the moves. You can tell during the flying changes that he's "carrying" the horse through the change. His hands are a bit too strong but the horse is also being quite strong as well.
Does this guy know how to ride proper? First he has too strong hands for this horse which has a light mouth and second he is pulling the horse so hard. The poor thing is confused and it's no wonder coz he doesn't give him clear instructions. As good as he might be,his style of riding isnt the best in my opinion. If he was a proper rider the horse wouldnt be doing half rears and spins coz the horse is a clever animal and knows if his rider is good or not and if he has to respect him or not.
It doesn't matter what level you and I are, the man sucks. He's grinding his hips into the horse at the canter, cannot keep his upper body still, and has strong, loud hands. If he was a good trainer, he'd be working with that horse at something simple, like walk to trot transitions, not trying to force him into doing things he's obviously not ready for (physically or mentally).
Well....you don't know why he's riding that horse. He's te trainer of Coby van Baalen, the owner of the horse. He has NEVER ridden on this horse. The horse didn't learned the flying changes yet, so that's why HE's riding the horse to show how 'easy' it was.
He shouldn't be forcing that horse to do something he clearly isn't comfortable doing. Besides, if the horse is doing half rears and spins, that should be a big enough clue that the exercise isn't 'easy'.
Besides, the horse is doing half rears and spins because he's not used to this rider, and that has nothing to do with the fact that he's doing flying changes.
That sounds like a poor reason for rearing. I've ridden many strange horses without any accidents or dangerous situations occuring. Rearing only happens spontanously because of pain.
AllieWalke were the horses you rode young, highly trained dressage horses. Were you riding in front of a large crowd and attempting one tempi changes?
Although I agree this man does not have the most subtle riding aids I don't think what was done was overly strenuous for the horse. He worked for only two minutes, and although there were the initial reactions of rearing and spins I think this was because the rider was too strong, thus affecting the horse/rider's compatibility. My point being -> The horse was obviously fully capable of doing the flying changes, as demonstrated in the video.
Man he looks just awful, remind me never to buy books from him. God, I can ride a canter better than him, just awful. He may not fall off, but his hands are too strong and his riding is so unforgiving. This is like, everything you shouldn't do in dressage.
One of the all-to-common disgusting debacles which now pass for "dressage" since the "fast-food, fast-cars, fast everything" generation got involved in the discipline, complete with fraudulent "experts" posing as instructors.
You can tell that this horse is used to having the rider communicate with him and has a very light mouth used to subtle ques. This rider has unforgiving controling hands, he gives the horse nowhere to go, the horse doesn't seen used to this kind of dominant riding and is confused by the rider. He trys everything he knows to please the rider, sad to watch. I only let people on my horse who i know will respect and listen to him so he doesn't get confused, it's a respect thing. . . FOR THE HORSE.
Please retitle this incredibly instructive video......it's a rare glimpse of a master at work, he proves in 1 minute that a naughty horse is ALWAYS the riders fault, not to dis Coby.
yayaya iv nver gotten reared off but some rears are realy not fun but some are:) just kinda depends on the horse ur riding d how bad there attitude i that day, lol
I was present that evening. The horse was scared on one side of the arene where there was alot of public standing realy close to the ring and noises from the bar and fontain. Coby couldn't solve the problem immediatly and Johann Hinnemand just got his attention in one round through the areane while he was also explaining to the public in which way he solved the kind of problems. It was a great clinic and I guess that it was alot more educating than a clinic where everything goes as planed.
Obviously at a clinic to teach dressage riders/horses how to do better - this horse was acting up dangerously, refusing to do what the rider asked - to the extent that they said the horse could not do the exercise. This talented rider/trainer got the horse to do exactly what they said he could not, in a short time, despite the fact that the horse was extremely rebellious at first. He did the every stride lead changes (tempi's) first carrying a whip, then without it.... Amazing, dangerous job!
I think it's a pleasure to see a master work through a problem. I usually only see them competing and rarely see any troubles. It's good to know they aren't all blessed with perfect horses! I wish the llady would give a better description for this video though - people are quite confused about this situation - though they would be straight if they would just read the posts through.
Grand prix horses such as this arnt used to being pulled in the mouth like this man was doing. Dressage horses are all frm the leg. the horse was being a twat cuz he was uncomfortable with wat tht bloke was doing. I Would have shouted at him and told him to get off if i was coby.
This is a rider! He must have been giving a clinic and the horse has decided to have a major dummy spit and has told it original rider to go jump. He has got on and adressed the problem. Correctly. I would say that the horse was refusing and misbehaving in the onetime changes, that would explain why thats the main thing he did in the short clip we see here. We ridden and well praised when the horse did do what was asked of it. Think about the whole picture before you go slamming someone.
great seat!! and for everyone who is downing him shut up! NO SPURS=most likely more obvious aids and everyone below must not ride many different horses because if you did you would know that the horse tests you and and is naughty because he thinks he can get away with it! and different lesson horses doesnt count!
I love it!!!

Cute. And quite typical.
Needs a person to hold a horse while he is putting his ass on its back.
Step 2, - quickly grasp the reins so that the horse had no time and chance to show disagreement and its own emotions about this .... .
Step 3, - keep on yanking on the mouth untill "the ride comes back to normal". Quite typical but still stupid and disgusting......

this pretty much proves that its not as easy as it looks. i do IDA (im in college), and we only have 10 minutes to warm up and figure our horses buttons out, and then go ride the test. for him to able to get on a high-strung, highly trained horse without any warm up and get two times AND one times out of him is incredible.
chrissyluvhorsey 2 years ago 3
Beautiful horse, amazingly calm & steady ride from Johan Hinneman. Shows why he is one of the greats. Love how he pats the horse after the last line of tempi changes. I would have been cleaning dirt out of my teeth for days if I'd been in the saddle...
canne23 2 years ago
PS - this trainer/coach was teased for many months after riding this frisky horse, and the rider also joked that he made sure the horse was very, very frisky and well rested, LOL. His balance is not 'offal' (learn to spell) - anyone else would have hit the dirt on the first jump. He has excellent balance. He has trained more world class horses and riders to the Olympic level than anyone here criticizing him.
pirouette987 2 years ago
This man is one of the greatest riders who ever lived. He's riding calmly on a very frisky, fit horse. It's amazing to get on and ride in street clothes, without boots, and ride in such a noisy area on an unfamiliar horse - he still gets some pretty incredile work out of the horse under the circumstances. Shows is that it takes time for even the best to familiarize w/ horse. They are not 'single changes', they are 'tempe changes to one' or 'one time changes' - change every stride.

baaah poor horse, bad men!

... it kinda seems that the horse is just not liking how hes riding... as soon as he got on him he was confused....
ilymanda43 2 years ago
how can anyone who knows anything about dressage say this is a bad rider?!?!
The guy was getting Single changes from the horse. I don't care how well the horse is trained, if you are not an expert rider you don't get that from any horse!!
looks to me like the horse was wired up and the rider was still able to keep him in hand and get single changes from a fiesty horse!! That takes more skill than most riders will ever have
jmdnarri 2 years ago 2
no..the horse is very well trained..the rider needs a crap load of work..the horse was being confused by the guy jumping all of the plce on the saddle..
bridlelessgirl 2 years ago
Do you even have any clue what you were watching?
Do you know anything about Dressage? Do you know what single changes are and how hard they are to get even from a horse that is trained for them?
Watch the video again... he is asking the horse to do a lead change EVERY STRIDE that is one of the hardest movements in dressage.
Google : Johan Hinneman The man you are saying "needs a crap load of work" has probably forgotten more about training horses that you and I know combined!
jmdnarri 2 years ago 29
You are 100% correct. That is Hinneman in street clothes. He is a great rider doing 2's and 1's. Yes the horse is fractious, but the situation is extremely difficult.
Most of these pundants wouldn't know an FEI movement if it kicked them in the butt.
wejump2 2 years ago 3
@wejump2: And did you know this horse couldn't do 2's and 1's until Johan had ridden him?

@jmdnarri I'm in Dressage to and your vary right!! he is giving the horse commands and he dose not even know it! my horse is in 4th level dressage and i know my stuff and this guy needs some training lol
ilovemyperchron1997 1 year ago
@ilovemyperchron1997 you mis-read my comment. John Hinneman (man on the horse) is one of the most accomplished dressage riders in the world He knows exactly what he is doing, and you or I would be lucky to have him teach us a few things. He is getting on someone elses horse for the first time and they are "feeling each other out" I deal with this a lot in my training. Just because the horse is a little over-reactive for the first minute, doesn't mean he is not riding it correctly.
jmdnarri 1 year ago
@jmdnarri I respect your insight. You are so right about first rides. And that remarkable horse has some kind of work ethic! I watch this video all the time. I'd rather watch it than ANYTHING ELSE!!!
walk4trot2canter3 1 year ago
Excellent display I do enjoy seeing the masters ride and be able to calm a horse that in less experienced hands would have bolted. The horse came back beautifully to soft aids, commendable riding to give the horse stablity and assurance in an environment it was obviously unsure of.
nigelthemaori 2 years ago

NOT FUNNY.
frankie1159 2 years ago
That, looks like the equivalent of putting a toddler into the cockpit of a finely tuned jet. I have to say, his aids look so clumsy that it's bloody amazing the horse didn't just dump him. A good rider starts with subtle signals and works their way up, not the other way around!

EXCELLENT rider... his seat is a thing of beauty.
"confused" is not my word for the horse; far too simplistic.
have to see what was before he rode the horse.
great video.
thanks 4 sharing.
can you add notes about what went on b4 he rode the horse?
i 'm not sure, but i doubt that's a green horse. experts don't have green horses do work requiring a more developed physique. that's a great way to lame or sour a horse.
a horse up to changes on each stride=not green. just having "issues".
w15608 2 years ago
He is top caliber! He is riding a green horse for the first time and doing 1-tempies at the canter COLD! You can train for 10 years and not be able to do that......nothing funny about the video, this guy is among the best in the world.

Mie50 2 years ago
Interesting all the comments about him not being able to ride - He's the chef d'Equipe of the German National Dressage team, and they seem to do rather well, for you Americans, thats in Europe! Oh and a couple of your riders such as Mary Ann Grant think him good enough to travel to Germany - Thats slightly left of Texas by the way, to train under him. Is that good enough for you!
Hanoverian2009 2 years ago
So he's a Chef? Just because he can cook for the Dressage team, doesn't mean he can ride well...lol!
EventingQueen92 2 years ago
Ah Sarcasm and Irony...guess I deserved it though...touche...!
Hanoverian2009 2 years ago
Haha, Im sorry...took it and ran with it.
EventingQueen92 2 years ago
Ha ha not at all...I was just so annoyed by some of the comments that came from people who didn't appear to have a clue what they were talking about! The point I was trying to get accross is that he is a world renowned Dressage trainer, who apart from training the German national team, also trains a number of international riders, from the US and several European countries, despite the contrary views of a number of obviously more experienced and talented riders commenting here (sarcasm!!)
Hanoverian2009 2 years ago

Naw, the horse was just feeling fresh probably. He settled in nicely during the changes. I wish we could have video from before he got on just to see how the horse behaved then. However, the fact that he got on means the horse was probably not behaving or doing what was asked. If anything the horse was more frustrated before he got on then he was during the changes.

This is Johan Hinneman a well known 'master' of dressage. He wouldn't have such a title if he isn't able to ride.
Sky212 2 years ago
This was a young and very nervous horse. The reason he kept bolting and spinning was because of the crowd/environment. His riding looks horrible because he's overexaggerating the moves. You can tell during the flying changes that he's "carrying" the horse through the change. His hands are a bit too strong but the horse is also being quite strong as well.
lexxwolfen 2 years ago
This horse ďoesn't seem that he is young. Young horse hardly can do 1/1 flying changes.
Harryonka 2 years ago
Does this guy know how to ride proper? First he has too strong hands for this horse which has a light mouth and second he is pulling the horse so hard. The poor thing is confused and it's no wonder coz he doesn't give him clear instructions. As good as he might be,his style of riding isnt the best in my opinion. If he was a proper rider the horse wouldnt be doing half rears and spins coz the horse is a clever animal and knows if his rider is good or not and if he has to respect him or not.
Horseriding4life 2 years ago
It doesn't matter what level you and I are, the man sucks. He's grinding his hips into the horse at the canter, cannot keep his upper body still, and has strong, loud hands. If he was a good trainer, he'd be working with that horse at something simple, like walk to trot transitions, not trying to force him into doing things he's obviously not ready for (physically or mentally).
AlliWalker 3 years ago 3
Well....you don't know why he's riding that horse. He's te trainer of Coby van Baalen, the owner of the horse. He has NEVER ridden on this horse. The horse didn't learned the flying changes yet, so that's why HE's riding the horse to show how 'easy' it was.
bizzybijtje 3 years ago
He shouldn't be forcing that horse to do something he clearly isn't comfortable doing. Besides, if the horse is doing half rears and spins, that should be a big enough clue that the exercise isn't 'easy'.
AlliWalker 3 years ago
It was sarcastic.....
Thats why the word 'easy' was between ' and '.
Besides, the horse is doing half rears and spins because he's not used to this rider, and that has nothing to do with the fact that he's doing flying changes.
bizzybijtje 3 years ago
That sounds like a poor reason for rearing. I've ridden many strange horses without any accidents or dangerous situations occuring. Rearing only happens spontanously because of pain.
AlliWalker 3 years ago 2
AllieWalke were the horses you rode young, highly trained dressage horses. Were you riding in front of a large crowd and attempting one tempi changes?
I don't think we can judge from a 2 minute video.
SmellyJelly99 2 years ago
I disagree, I think we can.
AlliWalker 2 years ago
Although I agree this man does not have the most subtle riding aids I don't think what was done was overly strenuous for the horse. He worked for only two minutes, and although there were the initial reactions of rearing and spins I think this was because the rider was too strong, thus affecting the horse/rider's compatibility. My point being -> The horse was obviously fully capable of doing the flying changes, as demonstrated in the video.
roobear77 2 years ago
Man he looks just awful, remind me never to buy books from him. God, I can ride a canter better than him, just awful. He may not fall off, but his hands are too strong and his riding is so unforgiving. This is like, everything you shouldn't do in dressage.
AlliWalker 3 years ago 2
The horse has potential, it's the damn rider who doesn't.
Seshythebuisnessman 3 years ago 3
One of the all-to-common disgusting debacles which now pass for "dressage" since the "fast-food, fast-cars, fast everything" generation got involved in the discipline, complete with fraudulent "experts" posing as instructors.

HorseshoeGirl1 3 years ago 2
You can tell that this horse is used to having the rider communicate with him and has a very light mouth used to subtle ques. This rider has unforgiving controling hands, he gives the horse nowhere to go, the horse doesn't seen used to this kind of dominant riding and is confused by the rider. He trys everything he knows to please the rider, sad to watch. I only let people on my horse who i know will respect and listen to him so he doesn't get confused, it's a respect thing. . . FOR THE HORSE.

HorseRider36 3 years ago
Is that supposed to be sarcasm?
Are you aware of the history of dressage?
It is a discipline of mounted soldiers (male) in full miltary uniform.
When technology made horses obsolete, the discipline was continued by the gentry.
A 3-pc suit is not really the least out of place.
The rider's accomplishment is all the greater for having managed without the benefit of modern sports gear.

fugue83 3 years ago
I was present that evening. The horse was scared on one side of the arene where there was alot of public standing realy close to the ring and noises from the bar and fontain. Coby couldn't solve the problem immediatly and Johann Hinnemand just got his attention in one round through the areane while he was also explaining to the public in which way he solved the kind of problems. It was a great clinic and I guess that it was alot more educating than a clinic where everything goes as planed.
AnneGTI 3 years ago 7
