This young man has a left hand to die for - not because it's agile and powerful (though it's both) but because it speaks so eloquently, with perfect weighting and phrasing. This shows up best in Bach, but it's true of his other vids too.
A slightly steadier pace might indeed have allowed greater clarity and articulation. But the real test of a pianist is whether he can command attention and respect with what he has to say, and IL passes fine IMO because he both thinks and feels. Great stuff.
I would much rather listen to this beautiful performance than any of those full-grown 'professionals' who are only concerned with themselves and their 'careers'.

Of your performances on YouTube so far, probably this is your weakest. The juxtaposition of voices means you need to play them off each other. Again, a little too fast and robotic. Phrase shaping needs to be more complete and even. To understand Bach's fugues fully is not easy. With maturity this shouldn't be a problem for you.
If you want me to speak en francais then just let me know.
jsw663 - you are pathetic. Your comments regarding this wonderfully gifted child are inappropriate. You sound like you're auditioning him for something. And you have the audacity to ask him if you want to speak in French with him - AS IF HE'S WAITING WITH BAITED BREATH FOR YOUR EVERY COMMENT. There is something you need to admit to yourself IMMEDIATELY - this young man is perhaps the most gifted to come along in a long time. And all you can do is suggest what he should do to improve.
How is suggesting how he could improve a bad thing? No one is perfect, and if you were guilty of some technical fault, wouldn't you rather be aware of it? Or would you want to keep repeating the same mistakes indefinitely? *shakes head* I fail to see how constructive criticism is a bad thing. At least its honest. Flaming is a different story.
A 'robotic' playing style is a legitimate criticism. Intentional delays (however slight) add their own character to a piece and helps make it sound human.
Thank you, I agree! JSW663 comments just prove he is a fool. And Encladeus, this is BACH! Intentional delays? You're joking, right? Perhaps you would prefer if he played it Rubato, or maybe even with pedal. This boy is 12 years old. HE IS BRILLIANT!
yes ofcourse. I don't say this is bad, this boy has talent! and well performed as well, technical no problem. But i think musically it could be better. It is played quite straight on, and it could be more witht the baroque feel. I know, it's a fugue, so it has to be kind of rush, but in my opinion he can play it more baroque and use more dynamics, more contrast between F and P. Though this is my opinion
little genius!!!! The boy not only got great hands and and technique, but also great brains and understanding of the style of music. usually at this age its all running fingers with no feelings. this boy is really proved the opposite. great great talent.
His fingering is of a different style and interpretation to the Boris Giltburg one. Boris Giltburg does staccato for some of the left hand voicings for a gentler tone, but somehow this video shows that this boy managed to find a way to include full voicings for both bass and treble clef...eg. he had to jump his little finger to the left at the end of the first V-I (0:56) and use his right hand to play the bass clef portion? Interesting technique.
Pourvu qu'il soit en excellentes mains ! un grand artiste qui approche maintenant de la majorité... Du baume sur le coeur...

he's very good. Maybe a peaceful peace might suit him. But he plays very well. Amazing for a 12 year old.

he will become professional piano player?

This was way too fast to be considered brilliant...
But his voicing is brilliant... he just needs to pace himself as playing this piece too fast will destroy the style.

Brilliant!
Bach is not the kind for rubato... Feelings and pedals... Can u archieve feelings with an harpsichord without rubato?
it's hard...
This is Fabulous!
Please continue playing bach like this...

O I played this for a-level (form memory also) and it is very hard work on modern piano.
By the way, he should not touch the pedals and the tempo is too to be appreceated.
LeithMusic 4 years ago
why do the pedals blow something up?
PEACequaLsanityWORLD 4 years ago
With a pice writen in three parts, the pedal can make it sound less clear.
