was the stress of touring with a band, having a full time job working with disabled people and in 79 BAM he was diagnosed epileptic and having to be around those strobe lights around stage caused alot of them. He smoked heavy and had to take a lot of pills for the epilepsy which in turn gave him severe mood swings, having a baby in the same year he quit his job didn't make much money at the time He was an immensely, again immensely talented and gifted person. He will be missed R.I.P Ian
OMG!!! How can you have ANY dislikes for Joy Division and the imcomparable Ian Curtis??!!! I grew up listening to the Englan punk scene, and JD was my favorite!! This and Dead souls was awesome!!! Thumbs up people!!
It´s sad to realise, that a person kills itself at the age of 24 - the whole life is lying in front of it! Ian Curtis was a lucky and an unlucky person at the same time: Lovely wife, good job and success as musician. But he had a mental problem which affected him so much that he decided to bring his life to an end. His life might have become a fairy tale, but unfortunately he couldn´t handle it. That´s very sad!

Man, the guys were so squeaky clean looking. :) There's something cool abt that. There's that same earnestness in their JD's music. I appreciate that. Even New Order was/is always abt the music, not debauched rock and roll trappings. They didn't give a ***t about rock star image. etc. ~Fan from the 80s.
Joy Division, still untouched, forever unique. Ian Curtis... you'll never know how much you altered the course of the music world. Tragic yet brilliant.
@CanidaeCrazy I've known of this song long before I saw Donnie Darko but I respect your comment because that movie is radiating with astonishment and they used great music such as this song.
for all who said new order should do a copy, it says on wikipedia that they are an asociated act. but thats wikipedia for you. they form in 1976 and ended in 1980 when ian curtis hang himself at the age of 22 or 23. they made a great legacy for 4 years. everything about this band is great. they dont skip a beat in there songs.
No good? The main difference is that Bernard is singing them instead of Ian. The music is essentially the same given that Peter Hook is on Guitar and Stephen Morris on drums. So if they are "no good" you better give a good reason.
allright first the music is really not the same, and that's not my opinion it's just the way it is, it's obvious. plus the fact that Bernard is singing instead of Ian changes everything, Ian was an amazing singer who put his soul i would say in his song. Joy Division reached a degree of emotion that no other band ever approach. if you like New Order, i don't mind, i respect and i have nothing to say, but that's what i think.
I think the most amazing thing about Joy Division..is that they made such great music in the short time that they were together as aband...a feat that takes other bands decades to accomplish..
