  • was the stress of touring with a band, having a full time job working with disabled people and in 79 BAM he was diagnosed epileptic and having to be around those strobe lights around stage caused alot of them. He smoked heavy and had to take a lot of pills for the epilepsy which in turn gave him severe mood swings, having a baby in the same year he quit his job didn't make much money at the time He was an immensely, again immensely talented and gifted person. He will be missed R.I.P Ian

  • oh ian. my hero

  • OMG!!! How can you have ANY dislikes for Joy Division and the imcomparable Ian Curtis??!!! I grew up listening to the Englan punk scene, and JD was my favorite!! This and Dead souls was awesome!!! Thumbs up people!!

  • @Pdawgy102472 What about Joe Strummer then?

  • It´s sad to realise, that a person kills itself at the age of 24 - the whole life is lying in front of it! Ian Curtis was a lucky and an unlucky person at the same time: Lovely wife, good job and success as musician. But he had a mental problem which affected him so much that he decided to bring his life to an end. His life might have become a fairy tale, but unfortunately he couldn´t handle it. That´s very sad!

  • @Hyperflummi he wasnt healthy. if he didnt take his life, he probably wouldnt have had much longer

  • @shithead067 Ah, ok, that was new to me! I thought he might have had "only" a mental problem. Sorry!

  • @Hyperflummi he had both. he had epilepsy and severe depression

  • @shithead067 He had a confused life, but still did not have to commit suicide.

  • @ClubViking63 his health was failing so either way his life wouldve ended, the way he chose was the quick and painless way

  • sometime i think love does nothing but tear us apart.. maybe that's just me.. sometimes i wish i had never been born

  • Ian Curtis is the most beautiful creature in the history of musicians. <3

  • @vakisegk59 oxi dioth den iparxei subculture , iparxei ena sigkeximeno pragma apotelesma tou atomikismou

  • Yes , good old man ( me) memories

  • Temazo y bandaza!!

Feliz día de la Música, para todos!!

  • Man, the guys were so squeaky clean looking. :) There's something cool abt that. There's that same earnestness in their JD's music. I appreciate that. Even New Order was/is always abt the music, not debauched rock and roll trappings. They didn't give a ***t about rock star image. etc. ~Fan from the 80s.

  • What an influence

  • dont U think it's funny there are HUMAN beings who do'nt GET this song ...?...!

  • Ian got a cute daughter. She must be in her mid 20s by now.I hope she understands, she got a genius as a father.

  • thumbs up if you are here cause you have seen donnie darko

  • @asitakka thumbs down!!!!!!

  • New order was created, but he skiinny fik was god

  • Donnie Darko brought me here :)

  • The most tragic, yearning, aching and most importantly, beautiful song ever!

  • there would not be u2 without the joy but i think they know that?

  • there would not be u2 without the joy

  • buen tributo a Joy Division

  • you can listen to millions of songs but their is only one song that touch you deep inside, love will tear us apart is the one touches me

  • i will never forget joy division : ) regardless of how sad life is

  • 0:07 thats the cover from Ian Curtis his first band Warsaw.

  • Es gibt keine Worte dafür, wie sehr dieses Lied meine Seele berührt

  • The sound of Manchester!!!!

  • Joy Division, still untouched, forever unique. Ian Curtis... you'll never know how much you altered the course of the music world. Tragic yet brilliant.

  • Donnie Darko <3

  • @CanidaeCrazy Joy Division <3

  • @CanidaeCrazy I've known of this song long before I saw Donnie Darko but I respect your comment because that movie is radiating with astonishment and they used great music such as this song.

  • CONTROL

  • Giggs, Giggs will tear you apart...again.

  • I'm brazilian, I hear music from all around the world and I must say: british bands are the best. Ever.

  • @LopezzT ...and canadian just for RUSH

  • @S7An6i3 I see you troll, but I guess I'll feed you.

Coming from a teenager who listens to post-hardcore music, this is something you just gotta like. It makes you happy, so be happy it makes you happy.

    kelli

  • That's a joke right...

  • indeedley

  • I think that "Atmosphere" beats this by a fraction, but it's a close run.

  • i always thought the same thing, it really is a tough call

  • why is the bedroom so cold you turn away on your side (wow)

    AGREE (L)

  • one of my best songs ever!

  • for all who said new order should do a copy, it says on wikipedia that they are an asociated act. but thats wikipedia for you. they form in 1976 and ended in 1980 when ian curtis hang himself at the age of 22 or 23. they made a great legacy for 4 years. everything about this band is great. they dont skip a beat in there songs.

  • why is the bedroom so cold you turn away on your side (wow)

  • one of the best songs ever made!

  • I wish New Order would do Joy Division songs. Maybe like a tribute

  • oh no, please they don't, they would kill these songs.

  • wtf are you noobs talking about? New Order did many cover of Joy Division songs with Bernard singing them. They were good too.

  • lol "noobs", nice shot man. And no sorry, they are no good. take it easy

  • No good? The main difference is that Bernard is singing them instead of Ian. The music is essentially the same given that Peter Hook is on Guitar and Stephen Morris on drums. So if they are "no good" you better give a good reason.

  • allright first the music is really not the same, and that's not my opinion it's just the way it is, it's obvious. plus the fact that Bernard is singing instead of Ian changes everything, Ian was an amazing singer who put his soul i would say in his song. Joy Division reached a degree of emotion that no other band ever approach. if you like New Order, i don't mind, i respect and i have nothing to say, but that's what i think.

  • I think that's fair enough.

New Order made great tunes, but JD rips into the chest.

  • yea these nobs are wrong and u are correct

    x

  • I think the most amazing thing about Joy Division..is that they made such great music in the short time that they were together as aband...a feat that takes other bands decades to accomplish..

  • @vertgpu2 who else can say they shaped an era in a year? bloody brilliant

  • @yallnome0

couldnt have said it better myself...:)

  • Love Will Tear Us Apart...

  • prolly sometime in the early 70s

  • what year was this made

  • '79 or '80

  • '79, when they toured with buzzcocks.

  • nah, I thaught it was '80, It was in the album they released after curtis died

  • älskar liksom historien bakom hela hans liv, om ni sett filmen control o läst boken hans fru skrivit. älskar hans musik!! :D

  • I agree. I love this song but the audio on this copy is fabulous. Everything is very crisp and stands out.

  • The audio is great on this version The Classic

  • someone should do a remake

  • theres been many remakes of it

  • no one can live to the original

  • love will tear us apart it happpens every were i c it all the time thats y i love love but them hate it=-[

  • aaronthewolf, are you referring to something I said, ie: "Shit and beautiflul at same time... ", I dont mean Joy Divison by this, maybe meant Manchester or the track itself, sad but inspiring at same time, think I was on here after the pub as cannot remeber even commenting ere, thats teach me a lesson...beer & youtube, the new drunk textin....

  • Amazing how they went from this kind of gravitas to the sort of shallow, mindless euro-disco parped out of the arse of New Order!

  • amen

  • NUMBER ONE

What more needs to be said?

  • Touch of class.

  • anthonyhwilson.

i agree with you mate..i live near manchester

  • oh my god in heaven are u dense ???? u prefer the fall out boy version ??? u nobhead, theve butcherd that song !!!!! u realy hav no taste in music do u ????? IDIOT !!!

  • yeah you fuckin tell him

  • Simply the greatest song ever.

  • why do the best ones kill them selfs

  • i guess the problem is the fame...

but anyway we should remember them as great artists.

  • it wasn't fame.... He married way to young had emotional problems at home suffered from depression and epilepsy which didnt help! they band became more famous after his death than before

  • r.i.p

  • THE GREATEST BAND...EVER.

  • They were a major influence on u2.Thats a compliment in its self.

  • U2? Joy devision is that much greater than U2.

  • @PullerPranke

Let not argue about bands... Enjoy the music you like; forget the music you don't.

I love both bands; both different, but great in their own ways.

  • @PullerPranke I enjoy both artists and prefer not to demean either one. It's spelled Joy Division by the way but, glad your enjoying it. Slainthe.

  • @PullerPranke Yup U2 eat balls

  • @PullerPranke

Who of this innocent idiots had the boldness to compare Joy Division with U2?!

  • @unwichtig12 U2 did. When they first set off, they wanted to sound like Joy Division. In fact, 11 O'Clock Tick Tock was actually produced by Martin Hannett.

  • @jezosaurus

think again from 2 different and cultural backgrounds

  • U2 are shit... how can you say that!!!!

  • thats low man... very low

  • "but at least I didn't kill myself"

    Oh dear.

  • A classic! Enough said!!!

  • they were millions of years ahaed its time and they were genious
