If meaningful human relationships were valued at a pack of french fries, I am not surprised at the sheer number of failed marriages and relationships in the world today. To argue that "love and relationships at such a young age is cute" is even more sad because the goal of having boyfriends/girlfriends is to test the other person's capacity for a long-term relationship, i.e. marriage.
It is sad that many here have not even made the effort to present the point of the "other side", diving instead into mockery. I personally don't think the ad itself is scandalous or indecent, but the message it does send to the viewer is troubling. Essentially, it puts a price tag on human relationships, with a corollary that it can be "bought".

Just to clarify, the Roman Catholic Church didn't cause this to be banned. Cause if they did, you'd hear about it for commercials way worse than this in the states. It was some roman catholics in the philippines, who have an archaic interpretation of the world. It's in now way in line with the Roman Catholic Church's view to claim this as being an issue. Just a few crackpots and some stupid people who have no independent though. THis is even coming from someone who quit the church.

Who actually knows the reason for banning the ads? we dont actually know? the public dont actually know the ' true ' reason so dont assume anything ok. The catholics have always been firm about being conservative and always been that way, keeping the old ways, and we filipinos have become liberated, weve influenced by the west(if you havent noticed that, 300 yrs of spanish colonization vs 50 yrs of hollywood).
They banned this and yet they can't do anything concerning commercials on condoms and other stuffs like that? hehe..I respect the Church for making decisions like this but I want them to step a little bit more. i read an article about banning this commercial. the quote that made me rage is that they said "they were too young for such an age." meaning, they interpreted that these two kids 'are in a relationship' which is not suited for their age. i was like 'lolwut?' it's stupid they interpreted the commercial that way. they are only actors for the commercial... they used the kids just to make it cute, not to tell kids to get in an early relationship. totally stupid decision.

In the Philippines, it is still the boys who do the courting (generally) and it is not so bad if a woman remains single for the longest time. Pilipina girls who take the initiative are still perceived as cheap, desperada and too available by the boys.

Our culture seemed too strong in the issue of who courts who that anyone would find it hilarious to see things presented the opposite way... In this case.. the boy is being "pakipot" whereas social norms would have girls play that part.

there is no malice in this ad. why complain about it and have the ad pulled out? having boy/girl friends at that certain age is by far the least of the worries in these kids' minds. and besides, at 25 a pop, french fries wouldn't make your stomach full. a kid would rather buy something else... or worse, they'd just use the money to play computer games.
Unfortunately, this has got to be the mildest of "suggestive" commercials. The message of cheap relationships is also transmitted poorly to viewers; no one notice till the pullout! From random askings of kisses to scantily-clad women, the TV is filled with commercials the CBCP might want to consider. They might also want consider asking a pull-out or something like that of show w/ a boy doing macho dancing and him getting money afterwards.

CBCP has reacted too much about this one. For crying out loud, they're just children! Children are supposed to have pure thoughts. Of course they were not thinking about "sex" in exchange for the fries! It was just as good as when someone shares his/her food to a stranger and they become best friends. Who actually knows the reason for banning the ads? we dont actually know? the public dont actually know the ' true ' reason so dont assume anything ok. The catholics have always been firm about being conservative and always been that way, keeping the old ways, and we filipinos have become liberated, weve influenced by the west(if you havent noticed that, 300 yrs of spanish colonization vs 50 yrs of hollywood).

They banned this and yet they can't do anything concerning commercials on condoms and other stuffs like that? hehe..I respect the Church for making decisions like this but I want them to step a little bit more. I think the reason why they can't ban other non-moral commercials like those on cigarettes and beer is because they're afraid of the negative feedbacks from the public.. ^^ I'm not sure though. i read an article about banning this commercial. the quote that made me rage is that they said "they were too young for such an age." meaning, they interpreted that these two kids 'are in a relationship' which is not suited for their age. i was like 'lolwut?' it's stupid they interpreted the commercial that way. they are only actors for the commercial... they used the kids just to make it cute, not to tell kids to get in an early relationship. totally stupid decision.

This ad worked in India because in India it is the girls who pay dowry to a man to have him marry her. An indian girl's biggest fear is not finding a husband. But not in the Philippines. In the Philippines, it is still the boys who do the courting (generally) and it is not so bad if a woman remains single for the longest time. Pilipina girls who take the initiative are still perceived as cheap, desperada and too available by the boys.

Our culture seemed too strong in the issue of who courts who that anyone would find it hilarious to see things presented the opposite way... Unfortunately, this has got to be the mildest of "suggestive" commercials. The message of cheap relationships is also transmitted poorly to viewers; no one notice till the pullout! From random askings of kisses to scantily-clad women, the TV is filled with commercials the CBCP might want to consider. They might also want consider asking a pull-out or something like that of show w/ a boy doing macho dancing and him getting money afterwards.
It is better to focus on the tempted, not the tempter.

The only one giving such malice to this commercial is the Church. They're blowing this out of proportion. I mean, seriously, would an average viewer and consumer think that this commercial was about sex or whatever they're claiming? No. They're thoughts while watching this commercial will probably be something like, "Oh, those kids are so cute and innocent. And now I'm hungry. Dammit, now I'm hungry." CBCP has reacted too much about this one. For crying out loud, they're just children! Children are supposed to have pure thoughts. Of course they were not thinking about "sex" in exchange for the fries! It was just as good as when someone shares his/her food to a stranger and they become best friends. (Remember fibisco commercial?). This commercial is supposed to be about friendship. We, adults, tend to give malice to what the kids think. And the CBCP acted by the same malice.
