  • into the fiberglass. We found major intrusion all the way through to the interior. What was worse, it was a balsa core so the water extended out. We ended up cutting out a 4' wide by 6' long piece of the bottom and rebuilding it. So, the answer I would give is that just putting bottom paint over a fiberglass repair could very well create moisture intrusion. That being said, a good coat of epoxy, if not gel coat, will alleviate that problem because it will not have fibers ... cont.

  • Thanks for your question. I have a client with a 50' Muchi Craft. When he brought me in, we pulled it out to do a bottom painting job on it and I found that the bottom had been ground down to the fiberglass to remove blisters. A process called Peeling. The only thing put back on top was bottom paint. Both bottom paint and fiberglass are porose and after time can let water in.   • Very informative video, but I have a question? When doing a repair on a hull on the bottom where you have removed the gel coat in a large area and added mat and cloth to patch the hole. Do you re gel coat the hull prier to adding the bottom paint or will this bottom paint be addiquit
