It sounds just like the original, man! Great playing. If the R3 wasn't such a mess of menus, I'd buy it because of its amazing sound quality. I think I'll get the Roland Gaia instead, for its ease of direct programming and decent sound.

When you plug the midi out from the keytar into the midi in on R3 can you use both sets of keys with the R3 sounds at the same time? Or does only the keytar work, like one at a time?

@kjRockintheMusic Oh yeah, hey, you can play both the R3 and the Keytar at the same time here. You can actually set it to where you CANNOT play the R3's keyboard, just the Keytar, by going into the R3's MIDI settings and selecting Local Control OFF.

i wish that oberheim would make a synth amp, you can attach to any synth and it sound like a oberheim, so you dont have to pay ass oyut of your valet to get one imported from u.s.a.

@homestarrunner4742 OK, It's a simple MIDI System. I have the KORG R3's MIDI IN hooked up to the Keytar's MIDI OUT, wich allows the Keytar to CONTROL the KORG R3's Sound.

@homestarrunner4742 Nothing too technical about it. But if you want a keyboard with some good sounds for your application, go with something like a Yamaha Motif XS, or its little brother, the MM6. Or, you could get the real deal: A vintage Oberheim OB-8 or OBxa. For the Motif XS, and the Oberheim synths, you'll be looking at around $2000-$3000, and for the MM6, you get *ok* sounds for around $600 new.

Awesome patch. You got the osc's dead on, and you even have the little squeaky attack sound before the note plays each time you hit a key. Awesome work. Beats the hell outta mine. Now I need an R3! =D

LOL, thank you. If I were you I would save up and get a KORG Radias. It's the Same as the R3, except it's got MORE keys (not enough to play this song, unfortunately, it has 49 keys), and is MUCH phatter, as it has 8 VOICES (like the REAL OB-xa I might add) as opposed to 4 on the R3. Save up and get the Radias, that's what I'm doing! :D

So you attached the KORG R3 to the Keytar and use software to install a patch?

Sorta. MIDI is a software language, but there is no computer in this system. The setup here was R3 MIDI In to Keytar MIDI Out... The R# was then hooked up to my computer ONLY to record the auido that you hear. Hence, the good quality. :D

So you record a sound sample of the keyboard from the song them manipulated it then right? Cool. That's kind of what I've done using FL8 studio. So how did you record the sample? Did you use something like FL8 or was it just simply a sound recorder then converted to MIDI so it can be installed into the KORG R3?

I actually made the sounds from scratch using the R3's Synthesis engine... I just used my video editing software (Pinnacle Studio 12) to record a "voice-over" track of the video. :)
