If you go to chromeos.hexxeh.net you can choose whether to get the flash drive version or the virtual box version so you don't have format it for virtual box. It has been renamed chrome os vanilla not cherry. Your download link for cherry has a bad file.

Does all of your stuff that is on your normal OS stay where it is or does it get wiped and 3. Does this work with other OS's like mac OSX?

2. Your original OS remains un-modified. Installing an OS on your flash drive will not change your OS unless you choose to.

3.I'm not sure about Mac OSX because it runs differently. But it will work with windows
